Are you saying echo chambers don't exist? Or that the world hasn't become polarised? Or that people don't demonise those that are seen as the opposite to them? We're ALL guilty of either doing these things or being affected by them. What I said doesn't just happen online... I've just seen it get worse since the internet became a core part of our lives. People are stuck in their own echo chambers... on BOTH sides of any debate. You can zoom all the way out to a big topic like Trump, or all the way down to something (relatively) insignificant like ReMI's graphics... How many of the most nasty vocal people in the Lucas Fans world are convinced they're representing the vast majority? Every one I've engaged with has told me that "everyone" agrees with them... that "everyone" hates ReMI's graphics. That's always their first point of defence. And even after I show them a statistically significant poll where only 2% are actually upset with the graphics, they try to explain it away. ("The wrong people answered" was one response I was told). And that's literally cognitive bias -- you believe evidence that supports your view, and ignore any evidence that doesn't. Again, it's human nature to do this -- everyone is guilty of it in some way, but I feel people are less willing to listen (and quicker to judge) than ever (And no, I'm not being guilty of the same thing by saying all this.) I have vivid memories of it all (I saw The Phantom Menace on a trip to New York on my 21st birthday). I feel this sort of thing happens every other week these days, whereas the magnitude of the backlash in 1999 was a rarer thing.

Yes, and one final piece of this puzzle: The echo chambers that give people a misjudged sense of confidence in their own opinions. They wander around the internet convinced that anyone who has a different opinion to them isn't just wrong, but mentally defective, morally bankrupt, and probably a child molester, too. It's all become so tribal, and there's no room for grey anymore Oh, and one more thing: There's a generation of people who grew up thinking being famous on the internet is a lofty life goal. (Which bends my old and out-of-touch mind -- being famous on the internet is one step above village idiot to me.) Those people seem to often mistake espousing an opinion in a confident manner as being the same as having deep experience and knowledge... and boy do they get upset when you correct them.

Damn things are everywhere! I hope Vainamoinen has a definitive answer to all this! So MI2 there's... the two in the opening credits (missing in the SE). Jojo (appearing nightly). Three in total? -
I'm always interested in these recreation projects. I don't know how professional you want it to look, but from an ex-graphic designer I'd just say if you want absolute 100% accuracy you should try using InDesign instead of Photoshop. It's what the pros would use in a situation like this, and it will result in higher quality text fidelity on print (and make it easy to control how you build your blacks). However, that's only if you want insane level attention to detail. Most people wouldn't notice the difference

Bah, I voted for Tales... but I think it might be Curse now. -
Return to Monkey Island [SPOILER FREE]
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in General Discussion
Thankfully it didn't ruin a huge amount, but considering how careful I'd been, especially during the last season, it was a bit maddening. -

Return to Monkey Island [SPOILER FREE]
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in General Discussion
Iβm hoping thatβs the case. It certainly was when I replayed Thimbleweed Park recently. Much better to keep it in game than have to Google for answers and accidentally get spoiled. Although itβs hard to avoid spoilers these days. I was searching for a work thing the other day and got a screen grab from (what I correctly guessed) was the final shot of Better Call Saul. My favourite show that Iβd avoided all spoilers for for years! π¬ -
Maybe this'll get removed from by admins for good reasons that I can't think of, but here goes: I don't want to check the Return to Monkey Island thread until I've completed the game now, but I'd still like to keep myself abreast of (non-spoilery) updates, news, chit chat, and just generally entertain myself while the Unbearable Waitβ’ slowly crushes my spirit. And maybe this thread can also be a place to discuss spoiler-free opinions on ReMI once it's released, but before someone has completed it. Only 19 days to go... I can survive this

I can't say I ever had those issues, even with the original tank controls (which are insane to return to once you've played the Remaster). But I hated the fire beaver section.

The Cave doesn't fall into the above category as it's still for sale. "Abandonware" is just piracy, although I understand Tim's sentiments about game companies that no longer exist.

Hereβs a question: Would Tim Schafer have rejoined the team if Ron had asked him? I donβt think Schaferβs influence on the original two games can be understatedβ¦ plus he was involved in nearly all of LucasArtβs most beloved titles: Monkey 1+2, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango. IMO, the best game he wasnβt involved in was Curse (and maybe Sam & Max - although the puzzles in that game are super uneven). The rest of LucasArtβs catalogue are beloved in their own ways, but they donβt hit the same highs if you ask me (as much as I love them): Last Crusade, Zak McKraken, Loom, Maniac Mansion, Fate (overrated IMO, sorry), The Dig, Escape from MI. Schafer has gone on to prove himself as a brilliant independent game writer/director, too. I just think Schafer had a bigger influence on what we know and love as LucasArts than perhaps heβs given credit for?

Not sure what happened behind the scenes, but they're probably only releasing something because they're bound by Kickstarter rules to do so... I forgot that all Kickstarters launched before 2014 are legally bound to deliver their rewards... so that's probably what's going on π¬

Boy, I just hate that voice for Stan... he's so damn sloooooow. This is Stan to me...

I also backed that Kickstarter. I'm far more sanguine about the whole affair. Some Kickstarters don't amount to anything. I'm amazed they bothered to finish the game at all. EDIT: Actually it just struck me. All Kickstarters launched before 2014 are legally bound to deliver their rewards... maybe that's what's going on. That's what happened with the David Lynch: Art Life documentary I funded. They makers got 600% the money than they asked for. And then signed with Criterion as an extra bonus. I backed $50 for a "Special Edition DVD" with exclusive backer extras. Then after it finished and they had all our money: Barely any communication. And no exclusive special edition DVD. After much complaints, we eventually received a printed-at-home DVD in a plastic slipcase with zero extra features, and a picture quality so poor you couldn't even read the credits. Just enough to legally fulfil their obligations... Those guys are assholes. I digress. In other news, TT have an answer to every question you have:
