  1. That sums up everything that was wrong with the SE. ("It's a comedy pirate game, lets give everyone comedy pirate voices!")
  2. Ooh. Not going to read this until I'm done with my second playthrough which I started last week. (Weirdly I'm enjoying TP a LOT more this time... let's see how it goes.) Some comments on things I'm not enjoying: Screens that take a long time to navigate for the sake of it. ("We've got unlimited memory now, folks! Let's make this screen huge!") Same goes for the unnecessarily verbose dialogue. You could edit probably two thirds of the dialogue down and have a much tighter experience. (Again it feels like, "Hey, no disk constraints! Let's go crazy with the dialogue!") The interface could have a LOT of QOL improvements. The default Right-Click actions are often the least useful ones (eg. "Look At" instead of "Use"). And the fact you can't just drag an inventory item to another playable character (a la Day of the Tentacle) is criminal. Traipsing ain't fun! Still, I'm actually really enjoying playing TP this time. I'm paying a LOT more attention to the characters, and the mysteries. So far it's much more enjoyable than I remember.
  3. Nice. It is an utterly magnificent game. Can you remember what they added? I still want them to redo the first game with the same graphical fidelity as the sequel.
  4. Yep. That was literally my experience of Monkey Island 2. I think Curse was so delightful because I didn't have expectations (and it was delightful). Sequels are always competing with your memories, too, which are very different to reality.
  5. Holy crap, I literally never noticed that until you just pointed it out
  6. 👕 I beat #Mojole #88 and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 4/6 🖤🖤💛🖤🖤 🖤🖤🖤💛🖤 💚💛💛💛💚 💚💚💚💚💚 https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  7. I know it's not MI, but re the logo: The level of attention to detail was so exact. (It's why the font changes in Full Throttle Remastered really bugged me.)
  8. Muphry's Law: You make a typo when you're pointing out someone else's mistake.
  9. I got lucky... 👕 I beat #Mojole #87 and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 4/6 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 🖤💚🖤💛🖤 💚💚💚💚🖤 💚💚💚💚💚 https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  10. I think their dynamic in EMI is one of their most believable (in terms of performance). There's actual chemistry between the performances. (Admittedly I've not played it all the way through since it came out, but rewatching a few videos recently made me realise how much better suited Charity James's voice is next to Dom's.) Anyway...
  11. Yes. Oh yes. Even the Act cards look cheap, too. I guess they had less of a budget. Amazing the models and acting is so good really.
  12. I had to brace myself for a few days to give it a listen... oof. That was bad. She's one reading away from "Welcome to Hogwarts, Master Potter!" As for who should play Elaine... just watching a quick vid of EMI reminds me why I thought the recast was superior (ignoring the dopey lines she's given -- she delivers them perfectly and it actually feels like it's possible there could be chemistry between her and Guybrush). (Also rewatching EMI reminds me of the near constant lack of polish compared to Curse... the reused music, etc. Although I think the character models look good.)
  13. No idea how I got this 👕 I beat #Mojole #86 and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 4/6 💛🖤💚🖤🖤 🖤💚🖤🖤🖤 💚💚💚🖤🖤 💚💚💚💚💚 https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  14. Ah, you make a good argument. It's been ages since I played Tales but I remember enjoying the character stuff. I wanted there to be more of an emotional conflict within LeChuck, too.
  15. Hmm. I think that Punderbunny conversation on the dock is silly. I mean it's cute and fun and sweet, but it's cartoonish and pantomime. And knowingly so. The fact that you can completely miss that conversation (by completing the mansion last) only adds more to the lack of Elaine as a character in the first part of the game. She's a macguffin: She propels the story forward by being an object of desire for Guybrush. Of course the twist at the end is great -- she's not a damsel in distress at all and doesn't need Guybrush's help. I think the inevitable turn in part 2 is great, too. It makes perfect sense that after MI1 Elaine gets to know Guybrush better and quickly learns he's a (lovable) doofus. She's an incredibly capable woman, and doesn't need him by her side. It's always tricky when the audience identifies with a bad/idiot character though. They learn to love them and get angry with other characters treat them normally (ie. frustrated by their shenanigans). I can't wait to see what Ron and Dave have done with this dynamic!
  16. I think it's no surprise that Alexandra Boyd got the line readings so off... nobody knows who her character is. Personally I remember thinking that Charity James got Elaine "right". I felt the recasting was a course correction, and I don't recall anyone lamenting that her voice had changed. But it seems she was tarred with the same brush that gave us Monkey Kombat and plot holes. I was disappointed when Boyd came back for the SEs and then Tales. And now Return. Has anyone ever actually loved Elaine in Curse? Has Ron actually ever played EMI or Tales?
  17. Very true. Elaine didn't have too much of a personality until the end of SOMI. She's basically nothing more than a reason for Guybrush to go to Monkey Island. It's all very deliberately campy though. Very silly and cartoonish. (Elaine was only named "Elaine" after someone put a reference to The Graduate into the dialogue. Presumably she was Girlbrush until then!) Of course my 12 year old self thought their courtship was all very realistic and set my expectations for future relationships 😥
  18. Yeah, and for some reason she's completely enamoured with Guybrush, which doesn't make much sense. She's a capable, no nonsense, tri-island governor and he's a bumbling idiot. I wonder how Ron and Dave are going to reconcile his Elaine from MI2 with the one from CMI? Like someone else said elsewhere, CMI is a fantastic game (which I love), but it's definitely a departure from the first two in several ways.
  19. Yeah, on his way to the trailer: "Can't stop, big news coming through!" 😅 Death Stranding... 💖💖💖
