For some reason I believed that completing Melee would result in the game being complete. When I got to go on a voyage I was so excited. When I reached Monkey Island I was ecstatic. The game just kept on giving! While Melee has a lot of charm and puzzles, I love Monkey Island itself. For me it wasnβt empty it was mysterious. But yeah, Melee certain had more going for it.

I flagged this many months ago. Glad itβs finally been actioned

Yikes. @KestrelPidoes this add up? π₯

Some very talented people in this thread. Those boxes look amazing! Would any of you consider sharing your art files?

As someone who has struggled to enjoy TWP, I'm intrigued to know if all that extra work added to your enjoyment. And if so, could you surmise some of your major learnings so I don't have to follow in your footsteps?

I'm sure it was a mix of that, too. But I got a sense that if Residual (being the 3D sister to ScummVM -- supporting more than just LucasArts games by the end of its independent existence) had been very popular that it might have stayed separate. Perhaps wrongly. Either way, it was a separate project that had comparatively extremely slow development.

Yes, very true.

What is your opinion on Broken Age in 2022?

I for one was amazed how carefully the two parts tied together (although the Shay's parent twist didn't work for me). I think releasing the game as two chapters only unfairly hurt its reception. I think Tim might have to wait another 10 years for us all to play it again with fresh eyes. If anyone has the full documentary DVD thing, there's a great video of Ron Gilbert giving his honest and frank assessment of Tim's pitch. The word I remember was "underwhelmed". The man didn't mince his words! It's worth digging out. -
Nice! And of course, everyone's favourite:

It definitely illustrates something...

I think Fate of Atlantis is seriously overrated. Lousy voice acting (thankfully can be turned off). Clunky dialogue. Banal story. Ugly backgrounds. The idea that it would make a great movie is utterly absurd to me. Almost nothing interesting happens! There, I said it!

There was a dedicated alternative called ResidualVM, but there simply wasn't enough interest in the project and its code got folded into ScummVM.

This is fantastic, I hope it makes its way to MacOS one day!

Dall-E generated LucasArts look alikes

This tool is really going to put all those Ghanan movie poster artists out of business! -
This must have been the process LucasArts went through for first Special Edition. Zing! Also what @demone said π―

Guybrush The diamond belongs in a museum! King Andre So do post-impressionist paintings, Mr Threepwood. So do post-impressionist paintings. Guybrush What the heck is that supposed to mean? King Andre Some day you will understand. I think the joke is nothing more King Andre thinking he's saying something smart and clever, but actually he's not. Kind of like a really terrible bond villain. That was always how I took it, anyway.

After all this talk of Thimbleweed Park I've decided to replay it again and I came across this fun little UHS style guide for the game that a journalist apparently put together out of pure love for the game. I know there's a hint system in the game, but I thought it was still worth sharing: https://philome.la/IndieGames_Muso/tiny-incremental-hints-for-thimbleweed-park/play/index.html

I don't know if this outside the Mojo-verse, but I thought it might be worth looking at DD's other games while we're waiting for ReMI. For example, they just released an adventure game called CARD SHARK set in the 18th century that looks really interesting... https://www.devolverdigital.com/games/card-shark

You are a huge reason that Curse is the legendary game it is. You took those lines to the next level! Now spill the beans on Return

Dom!!! Welcome!

Oh god no. I've seen this trope so many times Please don't make Stan a weird clone that sells everything in the Caribbean. (Sorry Ozzie)
-
Actually I love hint systems, because then you have a chance to have that "a-ha" moment. Walkthroughs spoil all of that, and often prevent you from having a full experience of the game. (Unless it's my Last Crusade Game Guide, natch).

What if LucasArts had had modern scanning tools?

Interesting. I never thought about that angle. Hmm. -
I wonder if Ron forgot he already addressed the thing that upset him on the original boxart in the sequel? Although I never made that connection before -- and Fink doesn't have a beard, and Bart looks far more dopey than the pirate on the box.
