Kstar__2
on one of the add left of here, i just saw this one: http://www.budgetdvdstore.com/dvd/showdetail.asp?pid=1235&src=s it says it has the original star wars trilogy on dvd or, as they say it, the "Star Wars Trilogy Limited Edition Collector Set (DVD)" last thing i heared was that they'd release it somewhere in 2004... only thing i'm dissapointed in is this: Special Features : - Interactive Menus - Scenes Selection - Trailers now that's a bit lame. ok, now i don't know, after looking at the pictures carefully, the revenge of the jedi poster is on the ESB dvd, and some wierd one is on the ROTJ one. does anyone know if this is official/true, or just another hoax? XERXES
whats so bad about that...I kinda like it that a DVD doesnt have 500 hours of special features...and I would perfer if every DVD came with only the movie itself, and if you wanted your special features you went and bought the special feature DVD for another 10 dollars. ckcsaber
This doesn't look official at all. Besides, GL will hold out on this until after EP 3. It will make more money that way.
Kstar__2
i think it's true though, i mean he already "ditched" the old versions, so no need in putting them on the dvd...
The Cheat
he will probably add even more to the films, i think i heard somewhere that natalie portman will folm extra footage for return of the jedi

Vestril
Originally posted by Boba Rhett ... full digital bodies for both from what I hear. you're a liar!! a damned dirty liar!!! *runs away and cries* I'm glad I have the original OT on Tape, but I was praying that both would be released on DVD. Why does George feel so strongly that he has to supress the superior versions of his movies (sorry, outdated but suprisingly realistic effects mixed in with now campy and REALLY OBVIOUS looking digital effects looks awful compared to just one or the other). Now he wants to make it even worse. I'm going to continue to assume it's just a rumor...Lucas can't yet be insane enough to defile the memory of Alec Guiness that way

Sivy
laser discs! lol. does anyone remember those? well some bright spark managed to copy an old star wars OT laser discs (VCD) to DVD format and packaged them and sell them on the net. thats what they are and they are quite good quality, i know of two people that have bought them and they say they are of high visual standard. anyone who wants the original OT on DVD should think about getting it. because as what was said before, GL is only releasing the SE onto DVD, as for the release date, x-mas 2004 is the lastest rumor. an 'insider' said they want to release it before ep III to get the hype up. also they're so happy with the indy dvd set that they are going to use the same format for star wars, i.e 4 discs, one a special features disc. how true this is i don't know, we'll just have to wait and see. Neverhoodian
Well, with my experience with George Lucas' products, I have learned one thing; good things come to those who wait. For example, I got X-Wing and Tie Fighter when they first came out, then special edition versions were released a few years later with new ships and campaigns. I got the Star Wars Trilogy original version on VHS back when it first came out, then Lucas comes out with the Special Edition Star Wars Trilogy a year later. Furthermore, I got the Episode I soundtrack when the movie first came out, then I saw the Episode I Special Edition soundtrack in stores. In all three incidents, I felt cheated, that I had been conned into getting an inferior version. Suffice to say, I'm going to wait until they say it's the Special Edition Star Wars Trilogy DVD before running out and buying it. At least I have the original version. If it's not in the DVD like they're saying, I'll at least have a collector's item.
toms
cgi vader and obi???? nooo............ What are the odds he tries to make them fight "prequels-style", with backflips and so on.... still, it should be worth a laugh. The stupid thing is that i watched the "special" editions on tv a month or two ago, and the new CGI effects have already dated far more than the originals. Which i think still look pretty realistic. My dream is for a remastered, original version of the trillogy, where the only changed are the matting being improved (ie, removing the boxes around the tie fighters). Oh, and where Han shoots first.... Im going to wait.... cos i reckon they will wait until everyone has bought the special editions THEN releas the "classic editions" to make us all buy them again. if not, i can always buy the pirate versions later... •-BLaCKouT-•
Further to what Siv posted, the ones in the link above are laserdisc rips of the Special Edition. There's also a set of rips floating about of the original-original ones. Not that I advocate piracy at all. It's just that some people want a DVD version to play so's they don't wear out their VHS collection until 2004/5/whenever. B.
Sam Fisher
I wonder if that's the only edition that they are going to release, I hope not. Kinda cheap to release those so soon.
