Best Guitar Solo EVER

Acrylic

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody. I'm wondering which song has the best guitar solo?

For me, I think It's between Metallica's "One" and Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper".

Actually, now that I think about it, DFTR's solo is more complex and great sounding to the ear.

So for me, it's Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper".

Yeah, I want what you all think is the best solo. :)

I would have to say Led Zepplin "Stairway to Heaven". Its not the accoustic, or the electric accoustic. But the electric guitar at 5:54. Its not a crazy guitar solo. But it soudns really crisp and it fits the environment of the song perfectly.

The craziest guitar solo IMO, would probably be Van Halen "Hot for Teacher." I mean Eddie Van Halen is probably the most gifted guitar player ever. Too bad he died. Anywho, his scale solo, is so crazy. I pee my pants every time I hear. I cant even move my hand as fsat as he plays the last long scale.

My favorite guitar lick, would probably be a tie between three great songs. Def leopard " Pour Some Sugar on me baby", Motley Crue "Dr. Feelgood", and The Scorpions "Rock you like a Hurricane"

My favoriteist bass solo, would be Primus "Les Claypool Bass Solo". Its crazy how fast he can pull of those notes, i try to play it on my bass, and my fingers literally tie in knots:p

Man.. I don't know. I love a lot of them. Hotel California has to be up there. How about Whole Lotta Love, Cemetery Gates or Black Hole Sun?

I have a ton that I could just as easily mention but I'll stop there for now. I was listening to Don't Fear The Reaper when I clicked on this thread, as a matter of fact. :D

Eddie is alive and well(?), I believe. He had cancer a while back, but that's all cleared-up, according to him.

The BAND "Van Halen" is for all intents and purposes dead, however.

The best Van Halen solo is: Eruption

My favorite Van Halen solo is: Unchained

The Best Guitar Solo ever is: Steve Morse (with the Dixie Dregs) "Hereafter"

My favourite out of all time has to be Jimi's "Voodoo Child" The beggining is just so beautiful. Thens there's also his version of

"The Star Spangled Banner" from Woodstock which is probally the best solo ever in history.

I also like the one in Rage Against The Machines "Wake Up" with Tom around 3:00 . Then there is also "Voice of the Voiceless" which I like.

i remember don't fear the reaper, but i don't remember the solo, so it can't have made much of an impression.

How about:

Dazed & Confused? Stairway to Heaven?

any RATM song (especially their Ballad of tom Joad cover)?

Under the bridge?

I think my favorite would be Freebird.

Had them play that to me live a couple of months back. Magnificent ;) Seeing them again in December - can't wait :D

Personally, though, I'm with Rhett on Black Hole Sun - that is one amazing lead. I saw a tabbed version once, which came with a warning not to attempt it unless you were a very competent guitarist. It's mostly in 9/8 - bloody ridiculous :p

It's a toss up between that and some Jeff Healey stuff - superb guitarist...

I can't pick one either. There are so many great guitarists out there, past and present, and I've heard so many great tracks with great solos.

Pink Floyd should certainly feature in there somewhere as well. And Rainbow - who can forget Ritchie Blackmore? Or Cream - Eric Clapton is simply ace on the Live Cream album. Iron Maiden has it's moments.

Stevie Ray Vaughn also deserves a mention...

Of course im sure. I think was in the early 90's. The guy never left the cigarettes alone. He smoked atleast 3-4 packs a day. Hell he even smoked while he played. He died of mouth and lung cancer at an early age, like mid 30 i think. Its really sad, I have never heard someone play that great on guitar ever.

My dads super good friend lives in Carmel, California. And his neigbor is the wife and son of Sammy Hagar, the other guitarist in Eddies band, I got to meet his son. It was cool.:)

From the MTV site, dated 5/13/03: "Though there is still no word on what's happening with his band, reclusive guitar virtuoso Eddie Van Halen will join such celebrities as Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker and Kenny G along with members of the Los Angeles Police Department for the 32nd annual LAPD/ Celebrity Golf Tournament. The event, intended to raise money for the Police Memorial Foundation, takes place Saturday at the Rancho Park Golf Club in Los Angeles. ..."

Van Halen's last album was released in '98. This would have been difficult had he died in the early '90's.

Eddie is still alive and well Torque.

Anyone missing Skynyrd? Free Bird, anyone? C'mon you can't leave out Lynyrd Skynyrd! Listening to an 8 minute triple guitar attack, blasting out of the speakers is an experiance none should miss.

I also like George Harrison a lot. "Something" by the Beatles has a nice guitar solo by him. He also has a LOT of live stuff. His best has to be "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with George on vocals and guitar, along with Slow-hand (Clapton) backing him up on guitar. They switch off with the solos through the whole song, which is awesome.

SRV also is a guitar GOD. It's hard to pick and choose out of his songs, but my favorite has to be Texas Flood.

Brian May also rocks hard, and has amazing control of his guitar. Sometimes the sounds that come out of it makes you think it's a synthesizer instead of an axe . "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a great song, even though the actual solo is a little short. The way his guitar adds to the whole song is great.
