The Cheat
There have been many rumors that the original trilogy will be coming out on dvd next year. What do you all think? What features would you want? I would definitly want to have a commentary, it would be really cool to have the actors do a commentary but i think two commentaries would be pushing. Maybe have a box set and have a fourth dvd with extras for the movies because i doubt there would be as many extras available to put on the dvd since they didnt really consider dvd in 1977. what do you think? Chewbacco
I don't really believe that especially because when Lucas is making Episode 3. But like the others said, "I'll believe it when I see it."(Or hear it)

BCanr2d2
The OT DVD releases are meant to be that of the SE editions, the older movies are no longer in a condition to be put onto DVD, since they were cleaned up, and digitally restored for SE theatre release. Now only the SE versions exist with Lucasfilm, or so they say in the video intro on the films. There has always been a date of post Episode 3, but don't be surprised with an quick release after then, and then another release in Oct 2007, Special 30th Anniversary editions too.. Sivy
i've heard lots of rumours that it will be released next year in the summer at the same time as the clone wars cartoon DVD. apparently it will be in the same format as the indy trilogy. 4 discs, one being the bonus material. Kurgan
The thing is, you can still find Laser Disc copies of the "THX Enhanced Widescreen" Original Trilogy on places like Ebay. I find it hard to believe that the originals "no longer exist" unless Lucas physically had them destroyed (which would be a bloody shame... after all they are a part of filmmaking history, the special editions are just a souped up creation he made in 1997). The latest word is that they're coming out on DVD Sept 2004. Now remember he originally said all the movies were coming out after Episode III. Then he changed his mind and let them release Episode I 3 years after it came out, and Episode II barely a year after it came out. Now we're getting the original trilogy before Episode III comes to theaters! Let's hope he comes to his senses and includes the original films on DVD in addition to the special editions just like was done for ET on DVD. It wouldn't cost him anything extra really... the laser disc masters are already there and near DVD quality.
Crow_Nest
i also heard of that it will come on DVD. But not so soon. Episode 3 will come out in May 2004, at least thats what many of us had heard

Surfnshannon
I definately believe that they will. I mean...come on. Lucas has got to make some more money! I think they will be released for the 2004 Christmas Holiday. I think that would be a smart move. It would get everyone pumped up for the release of EP 3 that May 05 or whenever its released. toms
Ok, in a dream world i would like: Alien Quadrilogy style 7 disk box set which contains 2 versions of each film plus an extras disk. The 1st Version would be the original theatrical versions of the films, with the only modifications being the touching up of a few sfx (like the boxes around the tie fighters) and new 5.1 sound mixes. The second version would be the SE versions which GL can mess around with as much as he likes (computer generated OB1 vs vader duels, amidala cameos, silly ewok music etc...) as i wont be watching them. Commentry wise I doubt you would get some of the cast in the same room as GL, so i'd like 2 tracks on ep 1 (1 director, 2 cast) and one or two tracks on eps 2 & 3 (director & cast) I'd also like it if they put on a "facts" subtitle track a bit like they have on the Back to the Future Dvds or mad max SE. I could do without the animations though, just interesting facts popping up unobtrusively as you watched would be great. As for the extras disk.... I'd like to see as many deleted scenes as they have, such as the extended OB1 chat, the extra crix madine battle scenes and especially Vader choking the Imperial guards. I don't know if they filmed it, but the scene where luke leaps up from the rancor pit, but they bash his hands to make him drop down would be cool too. I rememeber seeing some awesome documentaries on ROTJ, so I'd like all those original "making of the movie" documentaries, plus original SFX docs and SE/CGI documentaries. Some form of music/john williams documentary would be cool. A documentary on the amazing matte paintings would be cool, with comparision shots showing the scenes without the paintings. A production design documentary on things like weapons, costumes and animatronics. An original ROTJ cgi documentary on how they hoped to make it with cgi, but it wasn't good enough. Some form of documentary relating it to the Kurosawa films that inspired it. An interacitve SW timeline linkng together all the films, and with the option of including all the EU stuff from the novels, films and games. Cast Interviews and audition tapes. is that enough??? oh, and NO sit down interviews with GL... we have heard it all before. ....and maybe another sountrack with the original David Prowse west country vader?????!! :D

toms
david prowse is from bristol in somerset. As you can see, the westcountry (ie, south-west, cornwall, devon, somerset) is about as far from yorkshire (north west) as you can get. u can't say these forums aren't educational.... i'd still like to hear that audio track though, if they kept it. I haven't looked at the regions of England in such detail since European history sophmore year of high school, which was ... about 22 years ago. Even when I went there on business 6 and 8 years ago, all I did was look up to recall where Coventry was (where I was going). I remembered it had been bombed out, but it didn't really occur to me that I'd be staying in a hotel across from the Burger King and 'american-ized' bowling alley and down the road from the McDonalds ... Fortunately there were a few good pubs in walking distance ... Mike
