Time for my opinion (which you don't need to give a **** about, as it will most likely annoy you, but I'm entitled to my opinion...).

I have to say, when I saw those photos of Saddam I felt sorry for him. Why? They show an old, broken, scruffy old man in need of a wash. That's all he is now.

He should be entitled to a fair trial just as everyone else is. Personally, I think he should be thrown in prison for the rest of his days. I don't agree with the death penalty under any circumstances.

What I find sickening is that Saddam is being blamed for all the acts against Kurds and Iraqi's, yet in the 1980's the US and UK gave funding to Saddam in order to do so. All of a sudden, our involvement in that is brushed under the proverbial carpet.

And to end, this certainly doesn't justify the US and UK invading Iraq in the first place.

i do like the "mirror way" sometimes..

i mean.. he should get a trial as fair as he gave trials back in his dictator days.

or perhabs not.

perhabs just cut it off and let 234 naked nude ladies in panties dance around him 24/7

that would be terrible.

i swear.

I think it's great how you guys want 'a fair trial' but also want to ignore everyone that supports Saddam Hussein. Of course there are going to be Baathists in the new government because there are people that support the Baathists. That is assuming that the new government is democratically elected, heh.. The Americans invaded on the naive assumption that everyone in the country opposed Saddam Hussien, and they soon realised how ridiculous that was. Although the Baath party weren't exceptionally good socialists, they were socialist nonetheless and so the working-class Iraqis benefitted from Saddam Hussein. Those that were oppressed were those that opposed him politically, the rebels, the 'terrorists'. That includes the Kurds. The vast majority of Iraqis could go about their ordinary business, work their jobs, buy their groceries and whatnot, and could do is in a comparatively good standard of living. Under Saddam Hussein, Iraq had a solid infrastructure, a good welfare system, and exceptional hospitals and schools, certainly before the sanctions imposed after the second gulf war, anyway. It was not a democratic system, but it worked. Bush said upon invading the country that how Iraq was run was to be defined by Iraqis; later he said that he would set up a democratic government for Iraq. But what if Iraqis do not want democracy? The majority of the world does not have democracy, democracy is very much a Western ideal. Why should Iraq have democracy thrust upon them? Most countries have existed for all time without democracy, without problems. The situation in Russia at the moment is that many Russians want to get rid of the new democratic system, and go back to the way things were in the USSR.

If Iraqis opposed Saddam Hussein like the Western media like to portray that they did, the Iraqis would have united and overthrown him, much like the Iranian Revolution of 1970. Yes, it would have been much harder, it would have taken much longer, and many more people would have died, but it would have resulted in an Iraq run by Iraqi ideals and values. My predictions for Iraq now are that America will set up a puppet regime that will run the country the way the West wants it to, much to the anger and humiliation of Iraqis. The resistance attacks on occupying forces will continue, and will continuously grow (though no doubt they will escape the media attention). Eventually, the resistance will grow so strong that the occupying forces flee, and the resistance overthrows the puppet regime and sets up an Iraq the way it should be.

Change is revolutionary, and the Americans have merely postponed the revolution.

Yeah, I felt pitty for Gollum Saddam too when I saw that footage. They really shoulnd't have humiliated him like that, and I'm afraid that the dark forces of Mordor terrorists will be even more active after this rather than even less. :~~~~~~~~~~~~~
