cell phones?

cell phones are becoming more and more like a laptop, and/or a personal notebook thing combined. sort of such as a high tech swiz army knife

some of my friends dont even bother to wear watches anymore, as their cell phone tells them their time, act as a compas, tell them where they are in the world, the news and so on

id like to believe that keeping cellphones up-to-date are not really important to myself, although i find myself buying the latest thing almost every year. it is indeed becoming an expensive fashion item. the only thing in them i really require is the speaking function. but everytime i see some new "unusefull" feature in them, i cant help but get alittle caught up and interested.

just this weekend i bought a new one, with a camera feature. i allready had a perfectly good cell phone, the only thing it didnt have that this one has is the camera. i did not regret this, as i am having abit of fun with the camera, but it is scary when i try to think about how much money i have spent in trying to keep my cell phone up-to-date..

the figure i came up with was quite scary. and i am not a person who usually does impulse purchases such as this. these cell phones are getting close in expenses to my car bills..

what are your views and opinions about this?

do you people need to vaccinate yourself with the latest gadget(s) out, such as myself?

I have a really dated mobile phone. That's all it is. A phone. It works. It caters to my needs. Why would I want to get a new one with a camera, internet access, emails, games, melodic ringtones, nasal hair remover...

At the end of the day, if you put all your eggs in one basket, and the basket breaks, you've got an expensive dud on your hands.

I'd rather keep things separate, to be honest. But that's just me. Call me old-fashioned. Or just old...

I don't even have a phone. I don't want one either. The only reason I would use it would be to play games, and thats why I have a Game Boy (that I never use).

I only buy new things if it's been a few years and there's alot of new features. The only thing that I buy regularly is video cards.

My dad's phone that he got from his work, Color screen, 2 or 3 games, some bells and whistles, but he chose this one ever though they offered him like $200 phones.

My mom's phone has ring tones, clock, 3 games (Only one I like-Snake 2)

My brother's is like 2 years old, but he got a new face plate so its all bling-bling, clock and like 3 games, only one is somewhat good.

I don't have one though, I don't need one at all.

I dont have one, basically cuz I don't need it. When I get some money and a steady job, I might get one for emergancies. The one I want you can record your own ring-tone and alerts. My friend has one and I always played with it.

Im using my 4th cell phone in 5 years, but take in mind my first one was stolen and the second one broke too soon (damn you nokia). I now have my latest for a quite some time and it does what it needs to do for me: call or make sure I can get called to be able to manage my social life. Im not at home that often and my cell phone makes me able to know last minute changes about plans. There are lots of times when a class gets dropped and that way I can see the misses. So I call her and have a quick meet. Its so easy and great since quality time is more or less rare.

SO that phone is quite important to me but buying a new nifty one after another isnt my thing. I think my bank account couldnt manage if I did.

I have a Blackberry - so I get wireless email from work, and have calendar & schedule, todo, memo, as well as a cell phone all in one.

It is mediocre at everything ;) It is my only cell phone, but it hasn't gotten rid of my PDA or laptop.

Well, I had an old cell phone - it was the most basic money could buy at the time...had it for about a year, and I would've kept it if I could've...would've gotten me out of buying a new one. My thing was I was tired of Verizon ripping me off with their prepaid service...or maybe it just felt more like I was getting ripped off...anyway, I had to buy a new phone when I switched to Cingular. It has a few games that I never play. It has some ringtones that I never mess with (I found what I liked & left it there). It has some other features that I have no idea about because it's a PHONE!!!

I do use it as a watch, too, but mainly because I used to have a pocketwatch anyway, and keeping a watch and a phone that displays the time right there on the front for the world to see in my pocket (the world can see in my pocket? Scary...) just seemed a bit redundant to me.

I gots one. Its relatively snazzy, a samsung t-100(for all you phone heads), but it was pre-camera age. I have a custom animation as my 'screen saver' and a custom ring tone, both final fantasy of course....... with the ring tones its pretty cool. you can basically download any midi file, convert it and pop it on yr phone, same goes for the animations.....

yes. so basically I am a bit gadgety too. I eventually will get a video phone when the plan on this one expires...

I've got a hand-me-down Motorola Startac flip-phone. It's so old, it's retro

But all it really does is call and it can get weather forecasts for me. That's all I want it to do, so I'm not real inclined to get a different one.

Eh, I got a cell 2 years ago because I never got my messages at home. I ended up getting a new phone during this past winter because there were exposed buttons that would make it call out in my pocket. The one I have now has the capabilities for games. I d/led some ringers and stuff. And I do use it for a clock....Kept breaking watches. It comes in handy, but it would never replace a cpu or a PDA if I had one.
