Pad
I dont know how I got it, but my IE homepage has been changed to something really weird (http://%6E%6B%76%64%2E%75%73) and whenever I set another new homepage it is changed back to that other one when I fire up IE again. I know, I know, its IE and I should get Firefox, but does anyone know what the hell that thingy is, how it got there and more important, how to remove it? MennoniteHobbit
It's most likely spyware. Download Spybot S & D whenever you get the chance. You don't have to get FireFox, though it is one of the best browsers, possibly even the best. But I'm not going to annoy you to get it. [EDIT]Oh- %5 and stuff is probably just an error of some sort- in IE or any other browser, if a file can't be found, and the directory includes a space, that space is converted to %20. But I'd still run a scan with Spybot S & D.

Darth Homer
A site probably mucked around in your registry. I have seen this before, they can set something so that whenever you open IE it resets your homepage to whatever is listed in the registry. You can fix it, but I forget where it is and what it is called. Edit: found a page in Microsoft's Knowledge Base about your issue, Linky
IG-64
IE is not spyware silly I have a problem on my family's comp. Everytime you load a page sevral blank "pop-ups" come up and then disappear. It gets really annoying. But I barely ever use that comp. The address to the sites is xlime.offeroptimizer.com I scratched it out cause I dun want anyone to go to that link. Nerd_Annhilator
If I were you, I'd get Firefox anyway. I really don't feel secure going on IE anymore. Plus, theres TABBED BROWSING! I love tabbed browsing, because my Res is only 1024 by 768 and I don't want 10+ IE windows on my taskbar. All those windows are INSIDE the ONE browser on the taskbar. Saves much space and is very convienient. *Firefox fan*

Astrotoy7
ok. first do a virus sweep using whatever AV software you have. Since Ive got NAV2004/Internet Secuirity I've had no problem with any of this stuff.... . *Anyways, then run something for adware, like ad-aware, and something for spyware, I use spy sweeper, and I find using *both* more effective than just one of them. It really sounds like you have a browser hijacker. If all these different things havent worked then try something like 'hijackthis' which targets such programs, but make sure you read about it before using it, to understand how it works more clearly. Im sure one of the suggestions everyone is making will help, also when your browsing make sure you have your browsers security settings to the default *at least* anything below that, and youre just asking for trouble With popups, NAV2004 seems to take care of alot of them but I have this little, older program that works a treat, its an earlier version of popup killer and its super easy to use. its version 1.43 and great if you like having control over what to block as a popup or not... hope you fix your problem dude mtfbwya
Darth Groovy
I started having that problem in recent days. I always have Google set as my homepage, and I get some crazy thing. Never the same thing either. It is not the SAME site that you linked. However, less than two days ago, I got spyware detected, then on Friday, Norton picked up 5 trojan infected files on my pc. So after quarentine, no success repairing the files, so I deleted them. Then the next day, when I opened up ie, the the hourglass, kept spinning, and some crazy url link, kept looping in the status bar! So, to make a long story short, I have switched to FireFox, and my browser problem seems to be fixed now. Now I just have to get my broadband connection repaired. Storms have been ripping through the midwest lately, and i'm actually using NetZero dial up, just to check my e-mail and make this post. Still glad to know, it's not just me. Must be an epidemic. PR-0927
Yeah, I use Opera 7.5. I might get Fire Fox as soon as the new one comes out. My dad's waiting for the new one too. But, he just uses Mozilla (Linux) or Opera.

toms
i use avant too... i like the fact that it renders like IE (not that IE is actually RIGHT, but everyone makes their sites for IE) but has the features of opera/Firefox etc.. However i had the same problem recently. I don't think it is what you could technically call spyware (at least adaware, blaster etc... didn't pick it up...), it seemed to be a malicious active-x based dialer virus or something. Its worth trying CTRL-ALT-DEL when connected and seeing if you have any unrecognised programs running (mine had one called "wind" and another one i can't remember) and doing a search on them. They kept reinstalling themselves everytime i restarted my pc. Eventually i deleted them all, removed any trace from the registry and then ran my virus checker to get rid of the last traces. If you have a firewall like zonealarm it with helps picking up this sort of thing as well. I'm sure i had Spywareblaster set up to lock my homepage. oh well. Jedi_Vogel
I reckon Avant requires IE to run and thus has the same loopholes. Firefox or Opera *nodnod*
Sabretooth
LOL, moi also had the same problem. It got solved when I formatted my PC and installed Windows. Y'wanna try? Go on.. It's eaassssyyyyy!!!! :dev6: dev6: dev6:
Tyrion
Firefox is like everything I.E. should be. Really, I'm ashamed of Microsoft. They're a multi billion corporation, and they can't even include tabbed browsing?
Alegis
why should they. There's no formula that says tabbed browser > windows. They just keep it to the classics..if you were saying the same about a bug i'd agree, but its not the same I can't understand glasses. The ones who make em are rich, and still don't replace em by lenses
Tyrion
It's a sense of streamlining and keeping things tidy. They say they want the windows experience to be the most productive and simple..it's kind hard to do that when you have to have 5 diffferent browsers open..
