The Best CDs no one seems to have heard of

Recommended Posts

I recently discovered the group The Mars Volta, and I bought their album Deloused In The Comatourium, and it's easily my favorite cd ever made. But there is only one person I know of that's even heard of the mars volta.

I was just wondering if anyone else has ever been in this type of situation.

I'm going to see these guys on the 22nd at the same place I just saw Goatwhore. Nobody I know listens to them, and they're pretty good. They're American Head Charge, and they kick much ass. I picked up the promo not for sale version of their album War of Art. Give 'em a spin if you like the heavy tunes and weird lyrics.

Also any Mr. Bungle album should be mentioned in this thread. ;)

The 69 Eyes

Disiplin

Love & Rockets

The Cruxshadows

Clan Of Xymox

London After Midnight

Black Tape For A Blue Girl

Bauhaus, The Sisters Of Mercy, and Bauhaus are not very well known among non-gothic teenagers..

Actually, i'm the only one who know about most of the bands i listen to (in my school)

I've heard of him... I have most of his CDs too.

Another great "semi-unknown" guitarist is Danny Gatton.

For Jazz guitar check out Bireli Lagrene... scary jazz chops!

Someone I listen to for just straight-up pop music is Anggun. In my opinion she is much better than any of the American Pop vocal divas, but very few people know who she is. Amazing production values on her albums too...

My mates LOVE the Mars Volta. We saw them spporting the chili peppers, and they have now bought all their albums. I have to say that personally i don't get it... but that us just me.

Snow Patrol are fairly big in the Uk, but i dunno if they have made it outside the borders.. final straw is the album.

Do as infinity: japanese pop/rock band.

Interpol

Britney Ferderline

Damn. F**king. Straight.

Basically, anything with Mike Patton in it is gonna be bloody brilliant.

There are lots of bands that people I know have heard of, but not actually listened to. Fugazi are one. Frank Black and the Catholics; another great example.

Mind you, I could go completely out on the left field, and ask if anyone has ever heard of Béla Fleck & the Flecktones... They're pretty difficult to define - think Dave Matthews Band, tighter musically, a bit more jazzy and without any lyrics. Sublime.

My musical tastes are so wide ranging, I doubt many people would have heard of all the bands I listen to...

The MArs Volta is great.

Tie sent me a song by a band called "Local H" called "Everyone Alive", and its an awesome song. Im sure theyre a great band too.

Blind Faith is great too. They were a band only in 1969, if I recall correctly. They only made one album, but its really a great album. I doubt many people heard of Blind Faith.

Yup.

Seen them live a couple of times.

I have almost all thier CDs, but I really like the older lineup (with the keyboard/ harmonica player) better than the current one (with the horn player.)

I didn't think they were that unknown a band, though... but then I tend to travel in Jazz-head "Muso" type circles where they are well known,.. at least for a jazz-leaning band.

I like what this thread has become.

I'm surprised that even one person has heard of The Mars Volta.

I'm trying to look into some of the bands you guys have posted. Right now I'm looking for Ska-P - intifada

I heard of them. They were on MTV a long time ago for a song something like "Short Skirt and a Long Jacket"

It was alright.

Dispatch

Off Kilter (really good Irish music)

Traci Lords (yes, she did porno when she was young, but she makes kickass techno music now)

Placebo (Brian Molko is a god. :o)

E.S. Posthumus (amazing new age music, you've probably heard some of it, as movie trailers are fond of using their stuff)

See-Saw (awesome Japanese music group, don't expect any of you to know them)

Kotoko

The Indigo
