What version of photoshop to get

What version of photoshop do you have to get to make reskins? None of the tutorials say which version, and I don't want to waste money on the wrong one. Thanks for any advice.

I also have one other question. Is it possible to get placeables to spawn in areas with no dialogue? (The Trayus proving grounds.)

So, any version of photoshop will allow you to do reskins?

@Jedi_Knight_707 , you can't do reskins without photoshop.

yup, any version... :D

and nope photoshop isn't the only photo editing progy that you can use... I also use Paint Shop Pro 9... basically any photo editing progy that can read and save the .tga file format in a 24 (32) bit mode can be used...

Just check the section "How to spawn a container when I enter an area" in my post here:

You can attach your scripts where you want: doors, OnEnter event, triggers, etc... not only dialogues ;)

I use Photoshop CS2, quite expensive, but well worth it IMO.

Agreed, it's expensive, but definately worth it. If you're looking for good quality at a pretty good price, get Photoshop CS, but if you're looking for extra features, get CS2

never heard of it... sorry...

pretty decent program, and the price is right (free) ;)

Does anybody know if Paint .NET supports targa images? If so, you may wish to try that, from screenshots it looks more 'user-friendly', since it's meant to replace MS Paint.

EDIT: .tga support will not be available until v2.2... they are currently on v2.1b but it is in the release lineup to be supported :)

I'd highly recommend getting Photoshop especially if you are going to even attempt to use it for other things.

The others are alright if you have no access to anything else but anyone who really wants results utilizes Pshop ;

All of the versions will get you the results you want. I'd recommend at least version 6 and up as those version are ones where "auto effects" and such start coming into play. This comes in very helpful when using the program as a novice. Many "kewl" effects may be obtained by using them.

Now a word of warning Photoshop is NOT user friendly from my point of view. I utilize the program EXTENSIVELY and still I learn new things almost daily. I've yet to meet one individual that is a true master of that program. BUT if you want your mods, pictures and other things to look professional there is no choice other than your version you pick.

Paint Shop Pro, Gimp and all that other good jazz is alright if you have access to nothing else. There is a reason Photoshop has been an industry standard for years and years though ;)

Hope that helps you out a bit

I use Photoshop CS2 as well, it's awesome, but I use Paint Shop Pro 9 equally as much if not a little more...

there are features in CS2 that I haven't fully learned yet, but in PSP9, I pretty much know all the in's and out's... I've been using PSP for several years now and have only started using Photoshop CS2 a few months ago...

u guys paid for paint shop ?

The answer better be "yes" if it wants to remain 'public' ;) hehehe...

However, SITHSLAYER133.. alot of the higher end photo-editing programs out there have 30 day trial editions to let you experiment with it to see if it's to your liking and willing to shell out the cash... :)

Ah my last post and how ironic...

Oky, if you plan on using Photoshop soley for modding, I would not advice you to purchase the program. Since I am in the field of graphic design, I need to purchase Photoshop and the Creative Suite for buisness. Photoshop runs from $200/$300 stand alone, and $1,000/$2,000 as a bundle. If you can some how obtain Photoshop from a friend, then it would be a cool tool to utilize in modding.

Now, what version? Any version from Photoshop 5.5 and forward. If you obtain anything earlier to Photoshop 5.5, you will not have the necessary tools for modding. Early versions did not come with extensive tools for UVs, masking, and other essentials. At the moment, I am using Photoshop CS. C.S. (Creative Suite) is version 8.0/9.0.

Well, it has been fun... Good luck man!

i dont actually use photoshop... ive used trials and stuff and it really doesnt seem that useful to me unless u really wana tap into its powers... plus im only in highschool and i can use the computers there that have it and just send it to my house via email...lol

if you're just looking to view and do really simple changes to tgas then you could get irfan view which is free but if your doing skins then you really should get a free program thats a medium power because most of the time u never even use all the tools in photoshop... at least not with the newer versions like cs2

but if you want to get photoshop get an older version like 7 that is still fairly powerful but not to expensive... since u dont actually make money of mods its never going to be "worth" the money for the newest versions

sorry about that i didnt even know it was piracy
