The Doctor
I was watching Star Trek: Nemisis last night, and I had to skip the part where Data dies. I hated that scene. Does anybody else miss Data? Riker sure doesn't - he forgot that the song Data was whistling on the holodeck was "Pop Goes the Weasel".
Jamps
Yeah, Data was my favorite character. When I heard a rumor that a main cast member was going to die in the next movie, I was sure it would be Riker when he was in the shaft with one of the bad guys. I definately miss him. The Doctor
I had no idea anyone was going to die. Until the end of the scene where they're all drinking wine, I was expecting them to detect Data on the sensors, badly damaged but salvageable. stingerhs
as much as i've liked the next gen guys @ Star Trek, its a dead series anyways. time to move on with life.
Aash Li
I never saw Nemesis... just didnt make me interested enough I guess... Ill most likely watch it when it gets shown on tv though.
Bob Lion54
Brent Spiner, the actor who plays Data, reportedly has a bad back. He wanted to kill off Data because the action scenes were too much on him. The other reason was his age. Data is not supposed to age but obviously Spiner is getting older. He just felt it was time to quit playing Data. In fact, he was one of the writers for the movie. I guess its all a moot point now, but thats why he was killed. While we are on the subject of Star Trek, I read an interview with Brannon Braga (one of Treks producers) where he said he is working on a new Trek series. That could mean anything from actual talks with Paramount to just talking to a writer or two about ideas. Thats not to say there will be another series anytime soon, though. If Paramount does decide to do another series, hopefully its better than Enterprise. Aash Li
Hey! I liked enterprise! Sure it had its plotholes, but I think thats in part due to it being on UPN... And then you have all those rabid Trekkies bashing it because it was basically a prequel series. If Lucas can do 2.5 sucky prequels, I dont see why Star Trek cant have a prequel series. The Doctor
The next series will apparently be about the Federation Time Ship Relativity (Braxton's ship). That's what I heard, anyway.
Vladimir-Vlada
William Shatner (Captain Kirk) is writing a series though. I am sure that it will be good... William Shanter is an excellent actor.
Bob Lion54
Hey! I liked enterprise! hehe. I never said I didn't like it. Actually, I liked the show very much. I was very dissapointed when it was cancelled. Some of the episodes where not that great, but it had its moments. It wan't as good as the other series, though. I guess I worded my post badly. Braga resigned. http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/666/666491p1.html I think I remember hearing that now that you mention it. Oh, well. Maybe its a good thing. Braga was great, but maybe its time to bring in some new people. He has been working on Trek since The Next Generation. Even the most creative people can't last that long on one show. I hope they don't do anything for 5-10years, let some new ideas come, and make another series when they have enough new material. Maybe thats just me, though. Bill Shatner may not be the best actor in the world, but he is a decent writer.
Aash Li
If William Shattner was a good actor, people wouldnt imitate his Kirk character... and if you dont believe me, look up: http://www.khaaan.com Or better yet, randomly scream "KHAAAAAAAAAN!!" three times on a busy street and see how many people laugh. Astrotoy7
But doesnt that "stoopid" data survive, "B4" or something. I havent read the newish book about Riker and the USS Titan, which is is set after Nemesis, so Im not sure what happens to B4 mtfbwya
REDJOHNNYMIKE
I loved enterprise too, the only thing that annoyed me was "plot deja vu" where you can watch an episode and match dialog, events, etc. precisely with episodes from previous series. If they didn't recycle as much story more people might have watched it.

Jeff
This is possibly the stupidist question I've ever asked, but what does that mean, anyway? May the Force be with you always. I didn't know that Data ever dies. I'm not a big Trek fan, but I know enough about it, but Data isn't a person, is he?
The Doctor
He is a person, he's not human. He is an android, but he is still a living being. He has thoughts, feelings, etc. He was the best Star Trek character ever written, and they killed him off.

You just opened a can of worms. According to the show, he is as much a lifeform as any biological being and therefore can die. Its really a matter of opinion, but to me it would be the same as asking if R2-D2 or C3-PO could die. Since you are more familiar with the charactors, it might be easier to think about it that way. Astrotoy7
All though, without an emotion chip..... Data was officially recognised as a sentient being after a formal trial - that was a great episode, it was called "The Measure of a Man" IIRC and all that was *before* he got or even installed the emotion chip. mtfbwya
The Doctor
^He was recognized as a sentient being, but not really a person. That's waht the emotion chip did, IMO, was make him more of a person.
Hallucination
^It made him more like a human. Vulcans are people too, and they're not exactly the most emotional folks around, are they?
