Disney is buying pixar for 7.4 billion dollars, creating Disney Pixar Animation studios run by the same pixar people.

I think this is pretty good news, now that Isner is gone and all. They did pretty good together and I think this will allow them to keep popping out some more good 3D movies.

Exactly, and I think this will go both ways, it will not only help pixar but it'll also help disney come back, because their public image has declined over the years and they haven't produced any good material in a long time besides the pixar films.

Very true I have as well own some stock in disney so it helps with that... I have heard this on the news. Disney was known for the animation that they were able to create, such as the first movie with sound(steam boat willy) as well as the first color movie(snowwhite & the seven dwarfs). This purchase will allow Disney to hold to their reputation as well to help them create more animated movies.

Hmm.

Disney hasn't done anything good in years... except ride on the coat tails of pixar.

I guess this might help disney stay alive as a brand... but its mostly a great move on the part of the pixar owners... because as more and more studios start cranking out cgi movies their uniqueness factor is going to go way down.

But if diseny just uses pixar to produce 3d versions of the 2d pants they have been producing for the past few years then its name will just go down to pixar's level.

the thing about pixar wasn't the 3d (which was great and got them noticed) it was the creativity, originality, freedom, depth and ideas that they put into their films. Disney doesn't put any of that into THEIR 2d films, so the move to 3d won't help unless they change their attitude.

People out there are still making stunning 2d cartoons, long after disney gave up on the medium. Hopefully they will apply pixar's attidue to everything they do, rather than disney's attitude applying to everything pixar does.

PS/ I'm still rejoicing because Disney have finally lost the rights to Studio Ghibli films in the UK so we are FINALLY getting decent versions of the films that haven't been horribly crucified and converted into disney tosh.

Now we just need them to loose the rights to a load of old jackie chan films and i'll be happy!

I always thought Disney owned Pixar anyway.

Disney never really owned Pixar, they just had a deal to make 5 movies together, but Disney screwed that up so they made a new deal that ended with Cars, that's coming out this year. And before this Pixar was going to have to find another distributer for their movies after Cars was released, but now that they're back with Disney they won't have to.

Life rocks.

Toy Story 3 won't blow after all!

As long as Disney doesn't force Pixar to make sequels to movies that don't need them (Finding Nemo), it's all good.

Emperor's New Groove from Disney was pretty good, actually, though it was what, 2001?

Lessee... no really good animated films... only stuff like Miracle and Pirates...

They did make an hour long 3 Musketeers thing that was decently funny... though that never made it to theaters... <<

I really liked one part of the article lightsaberboy linked us to. "They said that sequels should only be made if there is a really great story that demands it, and should be the domain of those who created the original film."

It's about time Disney figured that out.

Edit: maybe Disney hasn't actually figured that out. This morning I saw an advertisement for a Bambi sequel. *shudder*
