Darth Groovy
Well, to use their wording "He's in a prison for foreigners, but it's not as bad as it sounds. At least he has air conditioning and three meals a day." So I guess it could be worse? Also, he has another interview with Immigration tomorrow, so hopefully, if all goes well he will be released! That is the single wierdest thing I have ever heard of. Update us when you hear from him.

Kurgan
At least he's alright and you know where he is. I hope for his safe return to your family soon!
Acrylic
I'm positive your father is fine, because God is Great. He's protecting your father, I just know it. Please, update us. This is one of the worst things I've heard in so long. It's one of those "wtf" moments.
MrWally
Good news! After spending a week in prison (and coming unbelievably close to a 30 year sentance) our contact in the swiss embassy was able to release my father, who returned home last night at 2:35! Thanks everyone for your prayers and kindness, this has been a really hard week for my family and relatives, but now that it's over, it'll be nice to finally be able to relax and just be thankful that it turned out as wonderfully (you should hear his stories...) as it did. MrWally
The swiss embassy has what is called an "American Intrest" branch, and they deal with americans in cuba, it's somewhat confusing I know, but they got my father out, so I'm thankful. And you don't really need a "charge" to get 30 years in Prison. They claimed he had the wrong visa. End of story. Two of the guys he was sharing a cell with actually got 25 years in prison for simply handing out "anti-government" books. Just to clear this up, "Tale of Two Cities" is an anti-government book in cuba. It's all just really really sad...
Pie™
Swiss = Switzerland, not Sweden. Good thing your dad's returned though.

narfblat
Glad your dad got out okay. Does that type of thing happen often in Cuba?
Datheus
Why were the Swiss involved? Because since the 60's, America has done everything it can to have as little to do with Cuba as possible. This, of course, is aside from occassionally attempting to encourage a coup.
TiE23
O.O I'm glad he's back home safetly. Ditto. That would have been really bad. Glad he's coming home. .... Cuba's governement sucks big time. Commies are bad.
MrWally
Glad your dad got out okay. Does that type of thing happen often in Cuba? Yeah, unfortunately it happens quite often, my dad was in prison with about 18 other people and probably 10 of them or so were in the same situation as him: The government got suspicious and just locked them up, without asking questions. My father was lucky in the fact that he had people helping him get out.
