Mass Effect New In Game Video and Screens = drool

I too hope for a PC port. Even if its a year or two after the Xbox 360 release. Like cutmeister mentioned, they are bringing Jade Empire to the PC finally, so there's hope. Thing is, I'm already saving my cash for PC upgrades, I won't be buying a next-gen console for at least two years probably.

I've had my eye on Mass Effect ever since this year's E3. I too got all excited about the graphics, the real-time combat, and the depth the game will have. However when I investigated further and found out that Mass Effect is an Xbox 360 exclusive title I was heartbroken. I'm hoping that BioWare will be able to port Mass Effect to PC at some point after the Xbox 360 version's release. It took what, something like a year after Jade Empire's console version release before BioWare released Jade Empire for PC. I hope Mass Effect follows the same path.

This game is worth buying a 360 for.

I just watched the video about an hour ago at the arcade. It looked as sweet and tasty as everything else I've already seen, but a few things I noticed...

The areas in some of the combat clips seemed a little too much like those of KotOR, small and with a serious lack of enemies...

Destructable walls??? It would be highly bonus if completely destructable environments were a hidden feature...

Dialog choices appeared to be directly linked with actions (maybe I just missed something here though) "threaten and pull a gun... greet cheerfully and shake hands" I was hoping that you could choose your verbal dialog, tone, expression, and actions seperately (...He cracked a smile and gave her a litle wink as he drew his sidearm, and said with a deep sultry voice "It's a pleasure to meet you baby;)) don't even try to convince me you don't want to do that, you will lose and I will win;) Maybe they just couldn't figure out a way to do it quickly enough not to interrupt conversation flow.

I wonder just how useful your ship is going to be...

I would love to get it on PC, but I would require awesome, easy-to-use modding tools.

It's looking more and more like what I originally wanted to do with my FNCS, so if I can ever get the project going again there could be two different games to mod the same story for:D

This game is worth buying a 360 for.
So Mass Effect is a killer app for you then, meaning you're going to spend $400 USD to buy an Xbox 360 just so you can play this game. This is exactly what Microsoft wants to happen, games that will drive sales of its console.

As for myself I still refuse to spend $400 USD in addition to the $60 USD the game will cost just so I can play the game. I've invested a lot of money in my PC and I can't bring myself to spend a significant chunk of change on another gaming platform. I'm gambling on the fact that because Microsoft is Mass Effect's publisher a PC version of the game will eventually be released. Of course by the time that happens MS may pull the same trick they did with Halo 3 and make Mass Effect a Windows Vista-exclusive game. :(

Anybody think BioWare will release Mass Effect by the end of 2006?

EDIT:  Urk! My bad for using $500 USD as the price for the Xbox 360. Fixed. Thanks for the correction, RJM!

lolz..without this turning into a console debate thread, there are sets of games that many play that are available on all platforms. eg. most sports games. Wii is likely to get alot more shooters now because of the wiimote. Thus, people dont really buy a console just for one solitary game. Many places here allow you to rent a console for a week or two if you're really that desperate. I'm just going to wait n see with this one. Not due for a long time, gives plenty of time of think about :)

Wow, the game looks insane. I love the fact that they're making the combat realtime, it's definately the right way to go for a game like this.

Also, did you see how deep that galaxy map was? All those systems in a galaxy, multiple planets in each system.

Hellz yeah, I can't imagine how long it will take to get through them all or if you will even need to. That's going to add the replayability big time.

This is one of those games that makes you glad you have a 360.

Rent an Xbox360? Hmmm... Something to think about I guess. With a game like Mass Effect though I think I would need to rent it for about a month. I wonder how much it would cost to rent an Xbox360 and the game for 4 weeks in my area? I'll have to look into that.

Also it's not that I'm anti-Xbox 360 or anti-console even. I fully realize that it's consoles that drive today's computer game market. It's just that I've decided to go with the PC gaming platform, have made a substantial investment in my PC, and don't really have the finances to support other gaming platforms. If money wasn't a factor then I would own all the gaming consoles out there, Microsoft's, Nintendo's, and Sony's. :p

@ milojmiles - I wasn't trying to impugn your character for saying Mass Effect was worth buying an Xbox 360, just stating that it wasn't for me. :)

And I wasn't trying to force my opinion onto you, or anything. Just saying the 360 suddenly got higher on my list of priorities. ;)

So has anybody checked out the X06 Gameplay Video posted at http://masseffect.bioware.com/gallery/ ? All I can say is suh-weet!!!

I'm trying to figure out how the combat works though. Looks like there is a targeting reticle involved but it's not readily apparent to me how the combat is controlled.

Still no word on a release date though...

That looks :drool:tastic.

I hope this will come to the PC just like Jade Empire will.

I have heard that the game will come to PC, and that a big relief for me, i don't like consoles so much
I second what Emp Dev said. I hope you won't be too disappointed to find out that you heard wrong. According to http://masseffect.bioware.com/gameinfo/ Mass Effect is an Xbox 360 exclusive title and BioWare reps have repeatedly stated that there are no plans to bring Mass Effect to PC.

However I'm sure we all hope that BioWare pulls a Jade Empire on Mass Effect as well. ;) I've already pre-ordered Jade for PC.

Wow, the graphic engine is really good. However, I've seen PS3 teaser videos, of no particular game, but they showed what the PS3 is technically capable of, and it's way more impressive than the Xbox 360.

Anyway, I'd really like play Mass Effect, but there's no way I'm gonna by a console. Stupid Bioware, I wonder how much Microsoft paid them to have the game be Xbox only...

I hope it will be released on PC too....

by the way, Mass effect seems to be similar to Freelancer...

I am definately considering buying an X-Box for this game alone. Im a big fan of dystopian futuristic games.

For me it's the other way around, I will actively not buy an X-box 360 console just because Mass Effect is for the console only. To do so would only actively encourage Microsoft to ensure that future games are X-box only as well since you prove to them that their nasty marketing strategy is working.

I'd rather pass over a good game than further contribute to the death and decay of the PC game market, however insignificant and unnoticeable my part of it is. :)

Hopefully Bioware will have a change of plans. I've bought all PC games they've released so far and have been more than satisfied with every one of them. Though since MGS is involved in this project I'm not overly optimistic.

I'm with stoffe on this. Although Mass Effect looks really good and it's made by Bioware (I liked all their games until now) I won't buy a new xbox360 for this game, especially since my old xbox turned out to be little else than a dust collector. I'll continue hoping that they will eventually release it for the PC.

Well, the game magazine PC Gamer sayed that Bioware have sayed that it will be exlusive for Console, but they have had inside report saying otherwise, it will probaly come out later then the console version, just like Jade Empire. But i hope it's not take to long. But i know that magazines dont always have right, but i can always hope they have it this time

PM isn't the best market for Mass Effect right now, unfortunately. Xbox 360s are obviously popular right now, and not many computers could play it. You'd need a top of the line card to max out all graphics settings, and it would use up a tremendous amount of memory. On BioWare's forums, one of the devs that it was "millions of times" larger than Morrowind. Not many PCs can play a game like that.

Unfortunately, there's not much practical reason for Mass Effect to be on anything other than the 360. All us gamers can do is buy consoles or wait a few years. :(

That and BioWare's working with Microsoft.

I tend to avoid believing rumors from sources other than official ones. If it was true, they'd have anounced that or kept it hidden. :)
