Astrotoy7
*AUD = Aussie Dollar Just in the last couple of weeks, the pre order prices for the ps3 and Wii have come out here in Oz, as Im sure they have around the world. At places like Toys R Us and electronics retailers, it looks like the ps3 is going to be hitting shelves at a whopping $999 AUD!! (probably to make it sound cheaper than $1000) The Wii is making a more appealing debut at about $350 AUD (lynky can correct me if this is incorrect!) As pretty as the ps3 is theres no way I would pay that amount for it. Im going to definitely wait til the price falls *alot* If sony get a crap market reponse, they may indeed do this quicker than expected. Even some of my most ardent sony fanboy friends have balked at this price and will be waiting for the price to drop. There is also a weird ?rumour going around that says you wont be able to trade ps3 games at places like eb etc because of some licensing attributes sony are attaching to their titles. I find that hard to believe...but anyway... In the meantime, because of titles like Mass Effect, and the ability to use it as a media center extender, astro will be joining the green side, and getting a snotbox 360 \o/ anyone out there seriously planning to get a Ps3 on release ???? mtfbwya
RC-1162
if i think of buying a new gaming console, it'll probably be the Wii, i'm not a very big fan of PS
Ztalker
Indeed... Personaly, i'd rather game in PC. It can be upgraded. I'm thinking about buying the Wii though, purely for the (hopefulyl) awesome gameplay experience.
Jeff
Well I wouldn't get a ps3 even if it wasn't that expensive, but if I was a sony fanboy I think I would still wait till the price drops, that price is pretty rediculous.
Jae Onasi
I can think of a million more important things to do with my money. Heck, I could get a new laptop at that price.
Yaggles
I agree with Jae. A new laptop would be much nicer than a game console. Because you can play games on a laptop as well as other things that you can't do on a game console. So yeah...
Hannibal
Yeah but the games you play on that $1,000 console aren't going to look that great. I'll buy a PS3 when it drops to $200 dollars. Didn't buy my PS2 till it hit $130. I won't buy a Wii because my issue with Nintendo isn't they don't make a good system it's that they don't get great games. Seems like they stick to kid games. If the Wii can produce adult games I'll buy it. RPGs, FPS' and adventure games is what i'm looking for without the fluffly cartoon characters. So far 360 will be getting my $$$. Cygnus Q'ol
I'm with you Hannibal. I need some adult content in my gaming experiences. I don't mind playing games that are created for the younger demographic, like when I play with younger family members and such. But, when I spend hard earned $$ for a game, it has to have longevity and serious playability for me. I'll consider the PS3 when/if the price drops or if they release a string of games that are super appealing. Otherwise, I'll probably give 360 a shot after some more time to get a few more games out there. I doubt if their price drops anytime soon. This thinking may all change soon though. I've been computer shopping. I just don't know where to start or what to get.
Niner_777
PC, all the way. I don't have a lot of money to spend on game consoles, so I don't spend what I do have on them. I'm saving up for gas money, for my mobylette. Also, a laptop would be nice.
Astrotoy7
....my issue with Nintendo isn't they don't make a good system it's that they don't get great games. Seems like they stick to kid games. If the Wii can produce adult games I'll buy it. RPGs, FPS' and adventure games is what i'm looking for without the fluffly cartoon characters.... lolz.... I'll leave the rebuttal to someone far more well versed in affairs Nintendo Needless to say, there are some awesome RPGs, FPS and adventures lined up for Wii ! as for laptops(aka craptops) *boos loudly* hehe...Im over laptops... the ones with the decent specs are barely portable nowdays. Plus cooling problems for heavy duty use(dont even mention battery performance), repair costs.... better off building a small form pc for 1/4 of the price(have done this for myself and friends several times now). There are alot of great small form cases, motherboards and components out there. Those cute little shuttle pcs are just a bit larger than a gamecube and can sport any hi-end spec cpu/vid card with the right components in there... pocket pc's/pda phones...them I like. Truly a *mobile* solution for emails, basic apps. mtfbwya

The Source
^^^^ Lol... Hahaha... Yeah. That would be a great payment on a car. What the hell are they thinking? Did I jump into a multi-dimensional portal. $1,000 for a game system. Hey, Wait! If you take half the money, you can buy something much more powerful. 'A Computer'. If you use all $1,000 dollars, you can buy a new computer that will exceed the PS3 by a few generations. Hahahaha.... The X-Box 360 looks good at this point. I hope it drops a $100 off its asking price soon. -------------------- Edi:: Add:: I can see the first day sales. The news report will hype everything, and one person walks in and buys the damn system. As he walks out of the store, the cameras follow the buyer, and hundreds of people will be standing out side laughing at him. Someone from the crowd - "Remember, we are not laughing at you, we are laughing with you." Hahaha...
Char Ell
The PS3 is selling for $999 AUD ($748 USD)? The rumor is the U.S. price points are $500 USD and $600 USD. Sounds like the Aussies may be getting gouged on this one. No plans to buy any consoles with the possible exception of Nintendo's new one. I'll seriously consider consoles when they provide basic PC functions in addition to the gaming experience, e.g. Internet browsing, e-mail, IM. I understand how consoles simplify game development since the developers don't have to worry about hardware compatibility issues but their functionality is still too limited for my tastes. I really wonder what kind of sales Sony's PS3 will have. The PS3 will be the most expensive console on the market. Will people really be willing to pay more for Blu-ray? I guess it will really come down to PS3 games to drive PS3 sales. Methinks Sony has awkwardly positioned their PS3, allowing Xbox 360 a full year headstart and pricing the PS3 higher than its competitors. I won't buy a Wii because my issue with Nintendo isn't they don't make a good system it's that they don't get great games. Seems like they stick to kid games. If the Wii can produce adult games I'll buy it. I'm with you Hannibal. I need some adult content in my gaming experiences. Console threads never can seem to stay on-topic, heh-heh-heh. <_< >_> Where is Lynk Former anyway? I have a feeling he'll have something to say about this. Prime
I wonder sonys marketing dept will come up to try and sell this thing at such a price. Snafu7
I'm definately not going to get a PS3, or at least not for a long time, right now I'm perfectly happy with my PC/X-360. There is also a weird ?rumour going around that says you wont be able to trade ps3 games at places like eb etc because of some licensing attributes sony are attaching to their titles. I find that hard to believe...but anyway... Pretty sure that isn't true, I think Sony said something about it a while ago. Linkage
Commander Obi-Wan
And this is the reason why I am getting the Wii now, and not the PS3.
Aash Li
Theres only one PS2 game that I really really really want: Okami. Its a Japanese game with Sumi-e artstyle. You play the sun goddess Ameterasu, whos been stripped of her powers, and you have to get them back. Id squeal with delight if they made a PC port... otherwise Id probly buy a second-hand ps2 just to get the game. hehe
Jae Onasi
as for laptops(aka craptops) *boos loudly* hehe...Im over laptops... the ones with the decent specs are barely portable nowdays. Plus cooling problems for heavy duty use(dont even mention battery performance), repair costs.... mtfbwya Mine goes to work, trips, or anywhere else with me in a nice rolling bag so weight's not a huge issue. I plug it in most of the time so I don't worry about battery life, though when I went flying in May a lot, I had to search around the airport for the plugs to charge in between flights. Now that will make you feel ubergeeky for sure, but I wasn't the only one doing that by far. Since I do a lot of my volunteer work online during my breaks at work, it frees up time at home. I had a PDA for awhile, and ended up getting a portable keyboard for it because the tapping or screenwriting drove me crazy. Then it got stolen....but the processor was dying on it anyway, so the thief didn't get something that really worked. There is justice in the world sometimes. Having a laptop with its issues is a small price to pay for having the ability to take Kotor anywhere I want and play it anytime. We took it with us on our last trip, and at night in the hotel, played my son's game. I have an adapter for the car so we can play on long drives, too. Unless I'm driving, of course. And back on topic.... We just got a PS2 for our kids, so we're not going to change much soon, though the xbox has caught my eye a bit.
Cygnus Q'ol
@Jae. That happened to me too. I was a longtime PS2 user until I recieved an X-Box for a gift. Except for a few games, I spend more time dusting it than playing it. I still love it, I just play on the box more often.
Clone L68362
The Wii won't go over $250 here in the US. Compare that to the $599 PS3 (and there is a 499 dollar one but it's crap) and it's a no brainer. Besides, the Wii is something new...why pay 600 dollars for a PS2 with better graphics? PC and Wii FTW.
Astrotoy7
...Pretty sure that isn't true, I think Sony said something about it a while ago. Linkage Yeah, it seemed not only unlikely, but highly impractical Im still hanging out to see what sony's spin doctors will come up with. Maybe something like: "Its not a console - its a PC, but you cant actually use it like one" mtfbwya
St. Jimmy
Right now? Go the 360. I live in Aus and no one I know is getting a PS3 as soon as it comes out. You'd have to be a loonie!
Ztalker
I wonder... Will sony accept kidneys for pay? I can't think of any other way to fund the PS3, besides selling my little brother...come to think of it... Anyone in need of a little brother? Seriously @ Topic: Since the 64 bit processor will be going down in price, PC gaming will be better then console gaming. Even with the old AGP cards, PC's could create graphics that were eqaal, if not, bettet then the Xbox 360. With the arrival of the new 64 bit processors, Direct X 10 etc Sony Nintendo and Microsoft have already lost the battle vs PC. Imo, a console is for party-games. That's why i'll be going for a Wii. Hannibal
... Sony Nintendo and Microsoft have already lost the battle vs PC. They always will too. Unless one day one of them decides to create an upgradeable console. But then they have to worry about compatibility.
