The Doctor
I had to watch a stupid conspiracy theory video in English Media class. It had stuff about Roswell, 9/11, and the War on Terror itself. Pretty stupid ****. Apparently, the US government has purposely created a nameless, faceless enemy that can strke anywhere, any time, in an effort to create a state of constant war so that the economy can move forward through warfare. Oh, and Roswell was actually a secret Nazi spyplane that crashed, and the government is makeing stupid claims against the UFO theory to make more people believe that it's a UFO coverup, to avoid the whole Nazi superweapon thing. Oh, and Osama and Saddam are actually the same guy - a guy from Phillidelphia named Jacob Davidson - in a beard. Yeah. It makes perfect sense. Rexraptor2000
In my opinion, this thread is starting to turn into a flame war. But besides that, the past is the past. No use arguing about it now. We were hit by hijacked planes, we retailiated against 2 madmen who planned it, and now we're kicking their a****. I disagree. I think Americans should keep the events of September 11, 2005 fresh in their mind and remember the organization that organized and executed a plan to hijack American commercial jetliners and fly them into high-value targets like the WTC and Pentagon would do so again if we give them the opportunity. If Americans fail to remember this then something like September 11 will happen again. I agree. It's like the Pearl Harbor of the century. I've seen these guys on TV, and it makes me sick on how spineless they are. The Pentagon was hit by a missile. There wasn't any evidence in the wreckage to say a plane actually hit the pentagon... And how would they get a missile into the U.S.? Unless Sadam managed to make intercontinental missles, which I doubt, and make their blast ranges smaller, which I also doubt, then there was no way it could have been a missle. There were also phone calls from the planes before they hit their targets. Then you haven't sunk down to my level. Therefore I congrat you for being mature about it. mimartin
I could not listen to this sound clip. It brought up too many bad memories of that day. I do agree that we can never forget that day (I am from Texas and we still remember the Alamo). September 11th is this generation of Americans’ 12/07/1941 and 06/06/1944 rolled into one. I for one will never forget those that died that day. I remember seeing surveillance camera photos of the plane hitting the Pentagon on the news a few months ago. That proved beyond any doubt to me that the Pentagon was hit by a plane. If the Pentagon was hit by a missile please explain what happen to American Airlines Flight 77. Plus I didn't say Sadam controlled the missle launch..If you think Sadam was behind this then you don't need to be in a war thread. The theory is that Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaida were the ones behind 9/11. Sadam would rather have Laden's head on a silver platter than work with him. Char Ell
If you think Sadam was behind this then you don't need to be in a war thread. This isn't really a war thread per se. It's a reminder of one man's tragic experience on September 11, 2001. Look up Loose Change on google video..You'll see what I mean then..When you take the time to actually post some credible links to back up your assertion that it was a missile and not American Flight 77 that blew out a section of the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 then maybe I'll consider your argument. I tend to not pay attention to people who make highly speculative arguments without anything to back those arguments up. snip *ninja vanish*
El Sitherino
now we're kicking their a****. ... What ? I think you need to learn to read. And how would they get a missile into the U.S.? Rexraptor2000
... What ? I think you need to learn to read. Guess what? Anyone can write an article, but then add descriptive words to make it sound worse than it really is. Especcially when democrats, who hate Bush altogether and make him look bad because they lost the last election, write them. Like a civil war? It's possible. The gangs in Iraq don't want a stable goverment. Missle bases being built by North Korea? It's possible. The North Korean diplomant walked out of the U.N. Council chambers when the U.N. council demanded that it stop it's missile projects. Car bombings? It would have been a lot worse had we not interfeared. And we are killng a lot more of them then they are of us before they can strap bombs onto themselves and go blow up civilians. The ****? Someone, please tell me I'm not the only person confused by this part of the post. I'm sorry if you don't understand. The Pentagon was hit by a missile. There wasn't any evidence in the wreckage to say a plane actually hit the pentagon... How about the bodies of the children who were on that flight found? Jae Onasi
Sometimes people are so overwhelmed that they simply cannot accept what's happening around them until it's happening to them, too. I don't know what I would have done in that situation, either. If I'd survived the airplane hits but couldn't get out of the building, I'd probably call my husband and tell him how much I loved him and our kids and pray with him. But I just as easily could have ended up sitting in a corner quivering in fear. Sithy, September 11th is one of those defining events for our generation, whether we like it or not. It's now a reference point in time, just like Pearl Harbor was for my grandparents and JFK's assassination was for my parents. It's a very emotional event for many people, especially for those who lost family. Some of us handle it by crying, some of us handle it by getting angry, some of us handle it by suppressing emotions so we can go on with life. Not everyone is going to handle it the same way you do, nor should they--they need to find their own individual ways of dealing with it. I don't think we should minimize the impact this event had on each of our lives, however. I don't want us to get maudlin about it, but I do think we have to have a certain respect for what that event has done to the US and in particular those who were directly affected by this. I heard that about 1/4 to 1/3 of New Yorkers were directly affected by this event--they either died themselves, or knew someone who did. I think we can talk about the events of 9/11, and should so this never happens again and to handle on what is really a national trauma. Some people are going to need a lot more time to get through it and sort it all out than others. Some people won't care at all. Some people will never get over it. I will agree with you on one aspect of this--it shouldn't be used for emotional pandering. That's just as disrespectful to the dead as spitting on their graves. I despise attempts at emotional manipulation, especially for profit. It has more of an impact for me because I have family in NYC. I didn't lose any of them, thank the Good Lord, but because of the phone lines being jammed, I could not reach them for close to a week. My husband was in Germany with his Army reserve unit for his 2 weeks of annual training. He had flown out on a commercial flight only 3 days earlier, transferring in NYC. I was woken up that morning by my clock radio which is set to a news station, and I heard about a plane crash. I turned the TV on, got the news that a plane had crashed into the WTC, and thought it must have been a colossal error or plane failure. Then I saw the 2nd plane crash and knew it was an attack. And knew we'd very shortly be at war with whoever had done it, knew Jimbo would likely be called up for that war, and hoped we'd find the SOBs who did this. @RaV--check out debris fields from both airplane crashes and missile attacks yourself and then take a look at the Pentagon site. The Pentagon attack was not a missile attack--the debris field was entirely different from a missile attack debris field. They found forensic evidence of a plane crash at the Pentagon. I could see plane remains on the photos and videos. The debris field at the Pentagon looks like a plane crash because it was a plane crash. You certainly are entitled to believe in a conspiracy, but please don't believe just one website's view--take the time to look at all the photos (especially the ones taken and posted that day, before the government theoretically could tamper with anything) and read the facts yourself before coming to a conclusion. El Sitherino
Sithy, September 11th is one of those defining events for our generation, whether we like it or not. I know, that however wasn't my issue. My issue was building an arguement based on the fact that "people died because of 9/11". That's not a very good arguement to build on, especially for such an impactful event. He should have built his point on "innocent people were murdered as a part of a ideological war." or something more to scale. Simply saying "people died because of 9/11" doesn't mean ****. *bAsTiLaJeEdAi*
I dont understand why some people can be so insensitive. It was a terrible thing to have happened! Ja we have heard alot about it but that doesnt make it any less devastating! I was a nine year old living in South Africa at the other end of the world and I was affected! I remember driving in the car and hearing it on the radio and just thinking WHAT? How could this happen?! I havent watched the recording because it will probably make me cry and keep me up tonight. Heck I cried in Ep3!

I get what you're saying now. I'll agree that it's not a textbook construction of a statement, but I think the implication was "people died because of (a bunch of fanatics deciding to hijack some planes and plow them into the WTC to make a politico-religious statement as directed by an international terrorist group on) 9/11. While I'm cynical enough to think that we'll see some kind of repeat performance by al-Qaeda, their affiliates, or some other equally loving group of fruitcakes (edit: not limited to religious fanaticism, could be any type of fanaticism), I'm hoping we'll never have anything as horrible as that ever again. The Doctor
Apprently, they can. Or maybe not. Maybe they're supposed to go through life with the promise that in the end, they'll get a food they've never had before - or at least one that they can't make themselves. EDIT @ Jae Below: I would make light of Christianity's afterlife, but it's not the one that was brought up. I can see your point though, and I'll stop. Jae Onasi
Yes, grapes can be grown in the Middle East. Not the Mom-erator or anything, but I think it would be a really good idea to steer away from any appearance of making light of a different religion's concept of Paradise. Aash Li
I wasnt really making fun of their afterlife... I believe, in fact that the actual Muslim religion mentions nothing of 71 bottles of virgin olive oil... err.. 71 virgins, anywhere. Its just something fanatics thought up. But I was saying in a round about way that I hope that theres some sort of punishment for their cruelty instead of a suicider's paradise...
