ATTN highschoolers: how much hours do you work a week?

OK, I just got my first job and I was wondering what would would be a good range of hours for a highschooler to work?

I'm in highschool, and I only would like to work on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. I'm really trying to balance work, free time during weekends, and my studies but I really don't know how I should organize it.

Right now I'm working like 10-16 hours a week. I don't like working for more than 4 hours at a time unless it's a sunday ($10 an hour for 8 hours is fine by me, lol)

Make sure they know when you have school/the earliest you can work on weekdays. But don't expect to get nothing but weekends.

As long as it takes you to get you a good grade. :)

Never procrastinate - doing algebra at 1:00 A.M. is not fun at all. If you're using the schedule my high school had (one day with three classes, the next day with the other three), try to get the work done as soon as you possibly can while still being able to do a good job. Other activities are so much more enjoyable when you don't have to worry about homework in the back of your head.

Work and free time are secondary - if you put effort into all your studies, you'll have even better jobs and more time years from now. Think in the long term. :)

I found that doing homework as soon as I got home was a bad idea. Waiting a few minutes before doing it worked out well for me. And on weekends, never assume you'll get to it on Sunday - despite how much time you may have then, it's amazing how fast you can use it up. Doing homework on Saturday and getting it out of the way then can make the rest of your weekend more enjoyable. :)

God I procrastinate. I always say that I'm gonna do it once I get home, not right away, but like a half an hour after I get home. Then I have a shnack. And then I get online. And then I talk to friends, etc, etc. Soon it's 8, and I aint done s***.

I try not to, it just ends up that way.

I work 11 hours a week. But, the work at a library (where I work), isn't that much so I don't need to many hours. But, I could easily work 16-20 hours a week with a job that you have more thing to occupy yourself with. Like a fast-food "restaurant. (I don't want to work at one, I couldn't stand working around fast food for over 4 hours a day)

Anyway, depends what your job consists of what you need to complete. The more to keep you busy, to more hours you could work. That's how I would do it.

Btw, where do you work? (if you are willing to share that)

Working at the library does have it's lows.

The work is quite easy, but shelving books, cleaning books, shelf-reading isn't the most exciting thing to do. Plus you'll have to consume lots of liquid (preferabely water) since the books absorb the water and all the humidity. And when you're finished all your work, you're stuck with cleaning up the library till your shift is over or until you get a break.

But, you can listen to music while you work. And I get free food in the backroom. :D

Though, if you can get $10 an hour and take it. I only get $7.63/hr, and I work 11 hours a week. Though, I am suppose to get a raise at the end of this month.

I work 0 hours.

It's not that bad, but the pay sucks

Myself, zero hours a week. I'm on welfare money, or at least I will be soon. But I'm joining the voluntary ICRC visitation service after the fifteen-hours long prerequisite course I'm going to take in November. They pay a grand zero kroner an hour:).

Don't work before you have to. You've got a life-time of work ahead of you, enjoy not having to have a job while you can.

Yeah, but this is like the only time where I can spend money without having to worry about bills. I'm also getting my licence in March (Yeah, I got lazy and decided to get my permit last June) so i'm going to need the money if I want to drive to work and school.
