Have any of you seen Band Of Brothers? The HBO series? Well if you watch closely you will notice that the town of Carentan is almost exactly the same as the Carentan map on CoD2. I was watching it and it looked so familiar to me. It is almost exactly the same in that the piano is in the streets, the upper left window is cocked open alittle bit, the fence next to the chicken coop.

I have the box set, and I should slap myself for not noticing that if it's true. Going to watch that part again when I have time this week.

When I first saw this thread...I was like "I have to get in on this." WW2 games are my all time favorite genre...and that's what they've become...they've evolved into their own genre. I started out with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (and expansions) and I loved it...the single player was superb, and multiplayer was great (one of my first online experiences). Then...Call of Duty came along...I dunno how it did it, but it blew MOH out of the water. Wow. The production quality on COD was just unbelievable (especially the audio and graphics). Just overall, the COD series is and will continue to be my favorite (at least until I check out MOH Vanguard...which looks great)...we'll see though...but for now...COD all the way (I still play it a lot btw).

Oh yea...it's like that in COD 1 too (minus the piano)...whenever I played COD, I am reminded of Band of Brothers. It just looks, feels and sounds like Band of Brothers...which is one of the best series ever mind you.

Still Call of Duty is the best

I'd say COD is probably the most detailed, but i wouldn't necessarily call it 'the best'. I've always been a MOH loyalist however, my fav. being MOH: Frontline. However there are exceptions to this, i much preferred COD: Roads to Victory on the PSP over MOH: Heroes, which sucked big-time. I think MOH has been overtaken at the time being by COD as the best WW2 franchise game, but with the upcoming release of Airborne, i think it will shift back in MOH's favour; which it deserves considering MOH was the first FPS to be set in WW2. MOH is good on it's simplicity i think that COD is too ambitious (i do like the PC COD 2, however). Did anyone ever play that PSX game Hidden & Dangerous? It was a total MOH rip-off and very, very bad. I don't play much of BIA, i feel that it's just another franchise 'jumping on the bandwagon' but i feel the franchise may get better in time.

As long as there aren't invisible walls or "conveniently" placed road blocks like there were in Frontline and Allied Assault...then it'd be amazing...don't get me wrong, they are great games, but COD was a little more subtle about keeping people confined on the maps.

BiA is a first person shooter, where you command a squad: A fire team, and an assault team (in some scenarios one of the teams are replaced by a tank).

Perhaps the more propper term for the game is an FPTS? First Person Tactical Shooter?

The aim of the game is to not do all the work yourself. It could actually get you killed. ;)

Actually, it will get you killed. :D

Having said that, you can choose to do alot on your own, provided your squad is backing you up. Pinning the enemy down is vital for you and your teammates survival. You don't want the enemy to feel comfortable about popping there heads out to fire back at you, now, would you. :p

You'll find your teammates actually arn't worthless as in most other games, like MoH for instance, where you do most, if not all the killing, and to a lesser extent, CoD (I like CoD better than MoH actually). In BiA, their bullets are as deadly as yours. And they hit. You will always be a better shooter than them, but still, they are deadly. And so are the germans. :D

You'll do alot of flanking manouvers to take out the enemy. Most of the time they respond to it and shifts position to try and prevent your flanking manouvers, or they retreat to a safer and better defendable position. Or, they don't notice you're flanking them and they die. :p

In the second installment, Earned in Blood, you can actually be victim of a counter attack, and out flank you. If the AI sees an opportunity to flank you, it takes it, which - if you arn't paying attention - could end up disastrously for you.

The four F's:

Find them - no need for explaination

Fix them - Have your Fire Team lay down supressive fire

Flank them - Send your Assault Team around one of their flanks (or do it yourself)

and last

Finish them - Again, no need for explanation. :)

A frontal assault is rarely ever a good idea, as the germans will just mow you down as you advance.

DoD:S is fun, infact, I play it alot. :)

I was personally rather disapointed in it. After playing for about a month I quit. It was such a failure that more people (by far) play 1.3 instead.

However, it's mod, and not a standalone game. You have to have Half-Life/Half-Life Source in order to play it. So it not being on there does make sense. :)

Still a game though right? ;)

Oh and yes I do know what a mod is.

CoD all the way cuz i like the fact that the multiplayer is awesome AND the single player is pretty good also whereas MoH the single player sucks in my opinion(i havent tried the multi) as for band of brothers i havent played that either but as mentioned earlier i play DoD sometimes too:))
