So, who wants to get the ball rolling?

 

Linux powers the majority of web servers online today.

Linux can be far more secure than Windows ever could be (EncryptFS, SELinux, iptables, etc)

Linux is far more customizable than Windows, nearly every aspect of it can be tuned by the end-user. Especially with distros like Gentoo.

 

Windows offers the largest selection of compatible programs.

Windows has greater hardware compatiblity (mainly due to ******* hardware manufacturers neither creating Linux drivers nor releasing hardware specs for the open source community to do so).

Windows is much easier to work with for the average dumbass/end-user, which will gradually erode the IQ of the population because god forbid a person need to know anything about computers in order to use them.

 

I don't really use Macs.

Linux is more secure because sooooo many less people use it and know how to create malicious code. It's the same thing with macs. Like, why do you think Firefox is so much more secure? One, because less people use it, so it's not as effective to attack, and two, not as many people know how to code against it. I only like Microsoft for a lot of the products that they make because they are downright just helpful, efficient and just plain good products. Sure, I use FF waaaaay more than IE just because it is more secure, and a better interface. And yes, Windows does have its flaws, but its nothing that couple of freeware programs can't fix. I mean seriously...most of the viruses and computer problems are caused by the lack of common sense...it'd be the same way if Macs were the most popular computers.

 

Look, most of the comments ive made in the past were merely made to piss people off b/c they pissed me off. Macs do have their upsides (editing is the strongest), and Linux...I don't really use, so I can't speak for it. I just would use Microsoft over anything else because it is a name that I trust, and it brings me good products consistently...that's why I like M$.

No, Linux is more secure because of the code it's built upon. Sure, it could be infected by a virus written specifically for a particular distro, but the core of the OS wouldn't be affected. A Windows installation can be ruined with a few lines of code, even if it's been "secured", it takes a hell of a lot more to wreak havoc on a Linux/UNIX-based OS installation (FreeBSD in particular, it's probably the most secure OS available to the general public at present).

 

And the "dumbass/end-user" comment was 100% true. The internet is one of the few sources of unfiltered news available to many people, it shouldn't be polluted by the type of people that comment on YouTube videos.

That's not correct. Linux and Mozilla are open source products, that means LITERALLY EVERYONE can review the source code. One would think that it'd be much easier to create malicious code for Programs where you know the source. And despite the fact that everyone can see into every single one of the billions of code lines of the Linux kernel and analyse and hack it, there are like only two "viruses" for Linux out there (not working any more btw), which are not even real viruses at all, what again speaks heavily for the architecture of the Linux OS. Now oppose that to the fact that only a comparable small group of people knows all the Windows code, and how easy it is to gain access to a secured Windows system and do the maths about the security factor yourself. And even for a Windows system it is more secure to use Mozilla instead of IE although supposable more people know how the Mozilla browser is coded and could find ways to compromise it instead of the IE (that no one really knows about). But the opposite is the fact. I find that single aspect alone to be most significant.

One of the reasons for this at hand: the more eyes can (and do) review the code, the faster will errors and security holes be found and made public, and the more people take part on an open source project (like Mozilla) the shorter is the time that goes by to fix those errors. Even huge closed software projects (like Windows) just cannot come up with enough resources to handle this the way it works for open source. The result is, that statistically, closed source code has 100 errors within 1000 lines code, whereas open source code approximately contains 2 errors in 1000 lines code.

I only like Microsoft for a lot of the products that they make because they are downright just helpful, efficient and just plain good products.
There is enough and more software (Windows or not) from other companies which are not Microsoft. In fact, most of the useful software like anything Adobe, most games, and database application, special software is *not* Microsoft. And there are enough open source project like Open Office or GIMP which offer free alternatives to the commercial products like MS Office or Photoshop too. Also, these projects support many platforms not just Windows or Linux. And just because you don't know how to work with Open Office doesn't mean MS Office is necessarily better.

In fact its just different, but offers definitely the same functionality (plus supporting all MS formats, and many more), and this for all three OSs: Linux, Windows, and Mac. The advantage is at hand: do something on a Mac, take it to a Linux PC edit it again and go print it (and have it virus infected :p) on a Windows PC. I'd say these open source projects are more likely "rulers" of the world than MS are, simply because they bring together what's not made to be brought together.

So I need programs to fix problems. And in most cases I don't even know what it does. Tse. For Linux you don't need extra stuff to fix something. Everything comes with the distro and is free anyway. And it is well documented what is done.

No. The lack of common sense put aside, Mac OS or Linux have a different architecture compared to Windows which simply doesn't allow such things that can be done with Windows.

For one...I didnt say I ONLY like MS products...I just would rather use them over Apple or something like that if I had the choice.

 

Uhh...I'm pretty sure that freeware means that it's free...and you have any common sense at all, you can determine what is good and what is bad for your computer.

I'd like to point out that I was talking about open source software, not free software. Also, again, Apple makes computers, not software, like Microsoft.

Most people use Windows, hence there's a greater number of dumbasses. I didn't get too offended when I got mistaken for your common computer idiot.

F9, it all goes away. F11 it's tiled so you can view all pics at once (or maybe the other way around, I don't know.), and Safari has a Private Mode where it doesn't record your viewing history.

I do have to mention that of all the companies I've been to, to fix their computers, they were using Windows. Even Red Hat has a (payroll) computer running Windows. ("Payroll hasn't gotten the memo yet" was a response when I asked "what's up with that Microsoft software?")
