EnderWiggin
8th gold medal, 7th World Record and 8th Olympic Record in Beijing. 16th olympic medal overall. ****ing best olympian of all time. Sigundr
Indeed, gratz to the dolphin. I can bet that Olympic feat won't be done again in my lifetime.
Ascendant_Justice
Amazing. I nearly bit my thumb off in the suspense of that race! What a terrific job.
Evil Kiwi
Not to be mean, but I'm sort of suspicious of Michael... the media has been glorifying him WAY too much, and that can't be good. But, hey, all the same...

Evil Kiwi
Point taken, but even before the Olympics started he had the media's attention... I dunno, maybe I'm just a cynic.

Evil Kiwi
Yeah, yeah, I know... I'm a horrible person who is so pessimistic that, if presented something amazing, I shun it. Because it can't be true. *Off to find alcohol*
mimartin
****ing best olympian of all time. Mark Spitz and Ian Thorpe can suck it. If Michael Phelps isn’t the greatest all time Olympian, he is definitely towards the top of a very short list. I do not like comparing athletes from different sports and different eras since training, equipment, nutrition and events have changed. However, the only person I might argue as being just as deserving for the title of greatest all time Olympian is Jesse Owens. Not only did Jesse Owens win four gold, but he did so in pre-war Nazi Germany. Congratulation to Michael Phelps, perhaps the greatest Olympic performances of all-time. Cannot wait to get my Wheaties box.

Well I feel bad for you because Phelps has done every drug test possible and has left his blood for future testing because he NEVER TOOK ANY DRUGS. However, the only person I might argue as being just as deserving for the title of greatest all time Olympian is Jesse Owens. Not only did Jesse Owens win four gold, but he did so in pre-war Nazi Germany. Word dat. He is one of my idols, Phelps is also one. We have been jipped!! Sacramone should have won the silver on vault, the judges gave Cheng Fei a higher score even though she landed on here knees and she did not execute the vault completely (trust me my mom is a gymnast), then they gave the girl from North Korea a better score even though she had 2 feet out of bounds then on (her second vault) 1 foot out of bounds and a little step. Sacramone a just a big of a step as the women from Germany who did a little bit better then Sacramone.
Miltiades
Well, well, Isinbajeva went over 5.05m in Pole Vaulting, which is a new World record. Chinese national hero, Liu Xiang, didn't even finish the first round of the 110m Hurdles, which was a serious blow for China. Great Britain won the Team Pursuit in cycling in a new World Record. It's again been an eventful day at the Olympics.

Rogue Nine
8th gold medal, 7th World Record and 8th Olympic Record in Beijing. Not to take away anything from Phelps or any of other the record-setters, but the pool at the Water Cube was pretty much tailor-made for breaking records. The standard Olympic-sized pool is usually 2m deep, however the one at the Cube is 3m deep. With all that extra water, turbulence churned up by the swimmers is more easily absorbed, making for faster swims. It's all perfectly legal (the only stipulation on pool depth is that it must be at least 2m deep), but it at least explains all the record shattering at these Olympics. mur'phon
^^ Yeah, turbulence matters a lot, I remember asking my cousin why he put so much efort into qualifying races, he answered that how you perform in qualifiers determines which lane you get to swim in the finals. And everything else being equal, the one in the best lane wins.
Burnseyy
All I can say is... I was wrong about Britain! Check us out this weekend has been ace for them. All I heard on the TV was "gold medal" "Britain" over and over. We're in 3rd last time I checked - let's hope they're still there.

But, hey, all the same... That's a good point I suppose. Phelps has a lot of pressure on him now, and he's only 23. I wouldn't be surprised if he caved and did something really stupid like most celebrities. He already got a DUI when he was 19...right after the Athens Olympics. I watch Phelps because he puts on an amazing show, though, and unless he does something incredibly stupid, I'll sure as hell keep watching his races. EnderWiggin
That's a good point I suppose. Phelps has a lot of pressure on him now, and he's only 23. What does age have to do with how well he performed? Other then the fact that his body is in pristine condition? I wouldn't be surprised if he caved and did something really stupid like most celebrities. He already got a DUI when he was 19...right after the Athens Olympics. What was this have to do with how well he did in the Olympics? And who among us hasn't made a mistake? Char Ell
Congrats to Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh on winning back-to-back Olympic golds in womens beach volleyball!!! Miltiades
And Bolt...OMG. That was amazing. Two epic races by The Lightning Bolt. Oh yeah, and Wariner collapsed entirely on the 400m, Merritt went away with the Gold. A small surprise, there. The 4x100 Relay went horrible wrong for the USA, though, both men and women. They made mistakes you learn to avoid in high school. A really poor performance from both, and it seems nothing stands in the way of another two Gold Medals for Jamaica. Titanius Anglesmith
I really wish Bolt hadn't started celebrating so soon, just so we could see what he could have gotten. The man's a beast.
Char Ell
^^^ I agree. Bolt may have been able to finish in 9.55 or less had he run it through. Congrats to Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers on their first Olympic gold in mens beach volleyball. It took the full three sets to do it but in the end they got it done. U.S.A. sweeps gold in beach volleyball! Now to see if the mens and womens indoor v-ball teams can do the same but atm that looks especially challenging.
