Yar-El
Stagnation - Star Wars and Terminator I'm a diehard Terminator and Star Wars fan, so I'm expecting some honest dialog. SyfyPortal.com and Scifi.com have a few unusual articles as of lately. One of the articles is already being conversed about; however, it brings up the subject of franchise stagnation. Fox's tv series Sarah Connor Chronicles changed formats due to a premise where time travel can be done frequently without consequences. You can find the SyFyPortal article here. Spending hours watching both franchises does dull some of the magic. Watching Terminator 3 brought up a few questions - Have fans forgotten what Terminator is about? Has the franchise lost the tone? Terminator is a scifi horror story where Freddy Kruger is replaced by a machine. Skynet produces relentless cyborg killers. How many people felt as if the characters were threatened in Terminator 3? Did it feel like a scifi horror film to you? This subject can be expanded to Star Wars as well.

LordOfTheFish
Did it feel like a scifi horror film to you? Not really. More like your average action-flick. In my opinion, Arnold not as the bad guy killed it. Plus, I didn't think there was enough killing, or blood.
Ztalker
I do get the point. The original Star Wars was called 'Space Opera' where the Prequel Trilogy is...although very cool, just a sci-fi action movie. Same goes for Terminator. Even in Judgement Day, in the wide open environment you felt the threat of liquid-man stalking the crew. I still hope there will be a Star Wars television series. It is said to be more about the characters then about action. And George won't direct it. The comics have set some excellent stories that aren't 'action zomg cool.' I hope it will be like Dark Times. tk102
Arnold will always be Conan to me. And that franchise has stagnated too. Come to think of it, that other franchise called California isn't doing too hot either.

Ctrl Alt Del
^ The Connors were just an excuse, the austriac oak was the real point of it.
Darth Avlectus
Plus, I didn't think there was enough killing, or blood. YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! BLOOD AND GUTS! MAYHEM! MURRRRRRRRRDER! All the fire and explosions. Meheheh-heheh-heh. Sorry, had to get the beavis outta my system. Frankly, I'm not entirely sure the franchise's story hasn't taken several turns throughout it's life. Looks like it went basically every which-way. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it and it's always been about the chosen on,e John Connor. The ugency and the overall feel is what I'm getting at. Feels like it's shifted around a bit--and soem of it in the films themselves. JUst my opinion. This may be a reason for stagnation. Just be thankful it didn't get botched and repeated more or less a bajillion times like some franchises. Arnold will always be Conan to me. And that franchise has stagnated too. Come to think of it, that other franchise called California isn't doing too hot either. Hmm. Implication? Coincidence? Yeah, tell me about it. I live here. Gone from supposedly being the 6th largest economy in the world--or so the rumors said...to now basically being a mini-foreign country, or several of them vying for power at once (minus violent warfare of course). We've seen better days, that's for sure. The most action Arnie has been seen in lately is the angora fire back in 2007.
HIGH ON PIE 14
Stagnation - Star Wars and Terminator Have fans forgotten what Terminator is about? Heh, what jmac said. I'm not sure what you mean by time travel without consequences. That seemed to be the case with the first two movies as well...and as you should know as a Terminator fan, the Terminator 3 is a few years old, certainly not the present state of the Terminator franchise. You call T1 and T2 horror movies? Thats funny, I found them in the action section at Blockbuster. The present state is Sarah Connor Chronicles. You can't expect a chase scene every single episode - it would get boring after a while. I will admit that TSCC has changed the tone of Terminator - a lot of it is in a good way. It brought the franchise past just hack and slash killing. I mean how many times can Arnie chase after the Connors without it getting old? The series needs some polishing but it has great potential IMO. It can bring the franchise up with some work. On another note: Eurgh all about Arnold? Hmmm...anybody that has seen Summer Glau as Cameron would agree that she is the better Terminator...and she has had more screen time than all the other terminators put together. She is the superior actor too. Now thats a hot terminator I will agree that the franchise has gone down from the initial hype, but that is typical IMO.
