Scapetti Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 If they wanted to be super-cool, they might be sticking them on Steam. They would clean up on that platform. Congrats!
Jayel Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 but... why is this a good news for old-school fans? nm. i see it
ThunderPeel2001 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 "Last Crusade, Loom, The Dig, and more - http://bit.ly/YvVgI - For an old school gamer like myself, this is massive news. Excited!"
Glokidd Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 "lucasartsgames So lets see who will be happy: LucasArts has partnered with Steam. Digital adventurey goodness." !!!!!!!! this is awesome, i cant wait to re-buy the games and show direct support This probably also confirms that the SE will be using steam
parabolee Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Er, great I suppose. I guess this means we can get achievements in the games we have been playing via ScummVM for years. I hope this means more SE's rather than just dumping all the old games to Steam.
Jeroen_JRP Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Damn, i don't like steam... well, these are the games that are going to be on steam from July 8: • Armed and Dangerous™ • Indiana Jones® and the Fate of Atlantis • Indiana Jones® and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure • LEGO® Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure • LOOM™ • Star Wars Battlefront® II • Star Wars Republic Commando® • Star Wars Starfighter™ • The Dig® • Thrillville®: Off the Rails™
Threepwood4life Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 MI:SE release date is officially July 15th according to that document on Page 2
Scapetti Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I think it is pretty good news... July 8th people!! and I wonder what version of Loom it will be
Longcat Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 meh. Do you have to be online to play steam games? And no Grim Fandango:P whatever.
spiralout Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 This is just the first batch of games they're releasing. More to come. You guys should be happy. This will introduce the games to many people who haven't been able to get them.
spiralout Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Does little for me personally though. Well, you have new Monkey Island to look forward to. Jesus christ, we've wanted Lucasarts to go back to embracing their classics, and now that they are, everyone's going to get jaded?
irishmile Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I think the absence of Monkey Island 2 on that list is a pretty good indication that they might be saving it for a Special Edition release.
Longcat Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I am looking forward to the SE. But if that means I have to be online to play it, that doesn't make very happy. And it's good that they rerelease their classics, yes, but that still does nothing for me. What do you want us to say? Woop-de-doo, they released a bunch of games I already owned for 20 years in a less accessible format?
irishmile Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 You will have to be online to play the Special edition? That really sucks
spiralout Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Steam has an offline mode. It will be no different than firing up ScummVm and choosing your game from the list.
Longcat Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Which means I'll need a Steam account and their launcher. And that I have to reactivate that launcher from time to time from what I understand after reading a bit around the net.
parabolee Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 It's good to see them caring about the classics again. I like this new president of LA!
Sven_Q45 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 WTF. I must install Steam on my other PC too, than. Stupid. But what did ya expect??? MI1:SE and TOMI are PR.
ThunderPeel2001 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Can't any of you read? The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be made available on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PC via Steam and OTHER online distribution channels.
Longcat Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 It's good to see them caring about the classics again. I like this new president of LA! Well, sticking them up on steam doesn't require much effort imho.
Silvor Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Hopefully Monkey Island Special Edition will support Steam achivements. Would be nice if it did I think.
oubliette Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Which means I'll need a Steam account and their launcher. And that I have to reactivate that launcher from time to time from what I understand after reading a bit around the net. Both of which are free. I use Steam mainly for pc demos and have no issues with it whatsoever. And the free stuff they give you like being able to play certain games for just the weekend (i.e Team Fortress 2).
