True_Avery Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Well I could of told you that Cool article, though.
Darth_Yuthura Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Are they so sure it's the swearing and not the yelling or screaming? Maybe just making verbal noise increases one's pain threshold.
Sabretooth Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Are they so sure it's the swearing and not the yelling or screaming? Maybe just making verbal noise increases one's pain threshold. No it's ****ing swearing, not ****ing yelling or screaming, **** ****ing ****.
Litofsky Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 No it's ****ing swearing, not ****ing yelling or screaming, **** ****ing ****. Damn straight.
Darth_Yuthura Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 No it's ****ing swearing, not ****ing yelling or screaming, **** ****ing ****. Why? Because you say that it is?
Darth_Yuthura Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 No, seriously. Could it be the outburst of shouting or shrieking? You can calmly swear and it doesn't make the difference, but when you do so in extreme anger, you shout it.
Titanius Anglesmith Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 No it's ****ing swearing, not ****ing yelling or screaming, **** ****ing ****. Don't joke around about this.
Sabretooth Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Why? Because you say that it is? Yes, because I ****ing said so, my dear madam, precisely the **** because I said so.
Jeff Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 So will swearing in my ****ing posts reduce some of the pain of reading some of you all's **** posts?
CommanderQ Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Hmmm...they find this out...now? They could've just asked someone who has had some serious pain before, they would've gotten their answer:D
Darth Avlectus Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I do swear when I get dinged, or something like that. (excellent article BTW, murph;)) I have a kind of bad habit of just simply swearing--sometimes I even like it. However, I do realize it is illiterate and I have to curb it for people I care for (relatives, friends form down south), or for important things where one must behave in absolutely their best because education or jobe depends on it. Still, yeah, I have noticed when I swear out loud or at least yell for a momentary injury it lessens the pain. This wreaks havoc during my martial arts sessions I would have of character strength building where you must remain absolutely silent. (I.E. Kendo bokken hitting on your back.) You want to scream some obscenity. Doing so will only get you 10 more peltings and scolding by sensei or captain: "Don't take that tone with me!"
Aash Li Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 The correct way to do that test was to make them first put their arm in a bucket of ice water, and then stick it in a bucket of boiling water and see which one makes them yell and scream the longest. :3
mur'phon Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 DY: it was the words itself as the participants simply repeated the swear word and the common word sorta like a mantra.
mimartin Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 So will swearing in my ****ing posts reduce some of the pain of reading some of you all's **** posts? No, but I believe swearing aloud while reading the posts does have a calming effect.
Darth_Yuthura Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Okay, I saw a different article elsewhere and it didn't include the controlled subjects shouting a non-swear word in the version I read. Now that I've read the one posted here, I see that it clearly has been answered.
Pho3nix Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 The title of this thread reminded me of that 'no cussing club' douchebag.
Litofsky Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Does this ****ing article cover the effects of swearing in public, right in front of a ****ing teacher in sixth/seventh grade? Because if it does, I'd like my two hours of detention back.
mur'phon Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Depends, you'd have to be in ****ing pain at the time.
JediAthos Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I know I felt better when I ****ing swore after I got ****ing electrocuted by a piece of equipment I was working on
CommanderQ Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 It always feels good to cuss after you fell in a ****ing rose bush and all of its **** spikes poking into you....not pretty. I think this is becomin' a **** trend:D
