Fealiks Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 That's better than I would have expected, but I can see next to no difference.
Monkey Mania Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 It shows up mainly on the top of the tree and around the sign text. Right: Primitive line filter applied, saturation toned down, shadows lightened, contrast lowered.
LordTrilobite Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 That third one is what I was looking for! The MI2 sprite sheet will help too. There's no pickup animations on the CMI spritesheet . I can live with that. I'll just draw them from scratch. I wonder if a cartoon "outline" filter on the new MI2SE backgrounds would give it that "CMI" appearance. You'd need the SE sprites to know exactly what's needed though.
Monkey Mania Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 You'd need the SE sprites to know exactly what's needed though. Obviously. But they should pretty much be close to the originals.
TimoVihola Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Awesome thread and so inspiring! I did some Monkey Island 2 fan art recently and thought I would share it with you guys: (colors & shape is based very closely to the MI2 sprite) It's my first time posting here so hopefully I got the tags correctly Cheers, Timo Vihola
SyntheticGerbil Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Wow, I love the brush strokes and lighting you did!
Tomas Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Awesome thread and so inspiring! I did some Monkey Island 2 fan art recently and thought I would share it with you guys: <image removed]> (colors & shape is based very closely to the MI2 sprite) It's my first time posting here so hopefully I got the tags correctly Cheers, Timo Vihola Really nice colour work and lighting on this one! However, I think you are forgetting something; the original sprites were not designed to be viewed with squared pixels but rather rectangular pixels where the height is a factor 1.2 larger than the width. So, in-game LeChuck would rather look like this: Still, really cool style (the hands are a bit grotesque though ) and I would love to see you do some more characters!
Monkey Mania Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Because the game was made in 320x200 resolution rather than 320x240.
TimoVihola Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Thanks a lot everyone for the comments! Tomas: So I've got it all wrong Though I have to admit I like the fat stubby look You wanted to see another character, here's a very unfinished Guybrush: It would be painful to finish that one because I only have a hazy idea how he should look. Technically the Monkey Island 3 Guybrush was very beautifully drawn but to me the MI2 Guybrush looks more correct. Somehow I've always felt him as a character with high energy level, ready to do anything (...ready, not capable) - sort of like Rhama Sabrier from Galleon (Xbox game) without the superhuman abilities... well, except for that one ability... Cheers, Timo
Fealiks Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 That Guybrush looks so similar to how I picture him in-game... it's pretty much spot on.
Lagomorph01 Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Wow, that's a good version of Guybrush indeed, no silly blonde hair for you! I just think he looks a little too manly and heroïc, I like the whole "wearing daddy's coat and boots" thing he seemed to have going on in MI2.
LordTrilobite Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 That guybrush looks so awesome. But I agree with lagomorph, he looks a bit too manly. Perhaps his beard and moustache are also a bit too full.
Thrik Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I always imagine the Guybrush in MI2 to look how he does on the cover, and that rendition is pretty similar. Nicely done! Actually it looks even closer to Purcell's scrapped MI2 cover.
Chyron8472 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 We, over at the TTG forums have been updating the boxart for MI2:SE... Hahaha... Thanks Irishmile! ...but seriously, check this out: @TTG forums okay, since no one has updated the Cover Art recently, I'm going to upload what I liked most about what we've done to it so far, after having found the source art on the net. ( http://www.joystiq.com/photos/money-island-2-special-edition-lechucks-revenge/#2790024 ) First, the original art: UPDATES: --Monkey's eyes focused on LeChuck (Spadge) --LeChuck: improved face and beard (Fealiks) --Old School Guybrush head, hands and visible torso [Parabolee (touch-ups by Chyron8472)] NOTE: I have two updated versions, since some people like LeChuck's eyes focused toward the camera, and I like them focused on the doll (Fealiks).... Eyes on camera: Eyes on the doll: ...btw, here's Purcell's art again:
SyntheticGerbil Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I think the only answer is to copy and paste Steve Purcell's original over the new one pretty much, otherwise you guys are just sort of polishing a turd.
Aububuh Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I think the updated LeChuck face looks fantastic, but old Guybrush's head on his new body does look kind of silly, and this new poster is still terrible compared to the original. Nice work, though.
Giant Graffiti Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Why are LeChuck's clothes so different between the original boxart and the SE boxart? It just seems like such a random thing to change.
Varrok Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 They stole my idea! :/ http://www.lucasforums.com/showpost.php?p=2712479&postcount=45 ...they made it about 100x better than mine, though - his beard is now perfect
SyntheticGerbil Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 You're avatar is amazing Aububuh. Post a big one!
