Darth Avlectus
You know the kind. Fighting actions repetitively. Skill and strategy optional for this genre. I figured we all have played them in some form or another in past. Action games that involve Shooting, melee, or pugilistic (for the super youngin's that's beat'em'up with your fists, etc.). IFF you're a fan of this type (how ever big or small your enthusiasm), what do you like? What have you played? Did it factor into how you have grown to like the games you do currently? I'll start. I do like these type of games, probably only to a point like everyone else. Can't really say what I'd prefer over the others TBH. Listed in no particular order: Final Fight series, Captain Commando, Aliens vs Predator, Maddog Mcree, To the Earth, Duckhunt, Super Scope 6, Super Star Wars, Super Empire Strikes Back, Super Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Episode 1 (was an action 3d platformer but its moves were so repetitive it might as well have been hack'n'slash), X-blades. That's all I can remember, for now.
LordOfTheFish
I like options 1, 2, and 3, just not combined. But I voted for Shoot'em up! I really enjoy mowing hordes of of people/creatures down.
Endorenna
Hack'n'Slash for me. Very few things are as fun as mowing through hordes of poor mooks in games like Heavenly Sword and The Force Unleashed. 'Course, I haven't played many Shoot'em Up games, so I'm probably missing my favorite type of game.
Totenkopf
I really enjoy mowing hordes of of people/creatures down. I concur. Bombs or bullets, it's ALL good.
Astrotoy7
I chose based on what I have played more of - hack n slash. I loved Dynasty Warriors, Dark Alliance, Demon Stone, Drakengard. Apart from COD and the Trek Elite Force games, I try to avoid shooters because too much first person pesrpective gaming gives me epic queasiness. I would like to get back to Doom 3 one day. mtfbwya
ChAiNz.2da
Given my history of games.. it's definitely hack-n-slash.. however, since the release of Fallout 3 I've migrated to some shooters and haven't been disappointed Baldur's Gate, NWN, Icewind Dale, Morrowind, KotOR series, Oblivion, FO3, Deadspace, ME1/ME2.... yeah, you get the picture... hehehe
Astor
Hack'n'Slash. I've never really been a fan of shoot'em ups, although I have enjoyed some of the Call of Duty series.
Kyvios
I prefer hack n' slash mostly. The whole getting close to your enemy and seeing the fear in they're eyes just does something for me, lol.
jawathehutt
I typically prefer shooters although I do have a special place in my heart for mortal kombat II
Prime
Probably hack and slash for me...
Jeff
Depends what you are defining as hack n' slash, if it includes stuff like Diablo and other RPGs then that is what I like best, but if you're just looking at God of War, The Force Unleashed, etc, then I generally play FPS games more than those. Jae Onasi
I shot millions of Atari 2600 Asteroids, and hacked my way through most RPGs (melee tends to be stronger in those), so I voted Yoda. I prefer to run back and forth between the bridge and the Proving grounds in Dragon Age to see what 'love' advice Zevran and Oghren have to offer to Alistair each time. Darth Avlectus
Yeah, I put other options up there b/c it seems to branch out from platformer action (primarily what I was referring to). God of war I forgot about. There was a PS1 title that was a beat'em'up--I don't remember the name but it had a team of people and reminded me of Final Fight. MegaMan X7 actually could fit this b/c it was a 3d platformer that is a melee and shoot'em'up. Perfect Dark was a fave of mine. @ LordOfFish: combination would still fit you--they don't necessarily need to be all in the same game. If you like them all, you can choose option 4.
