JediAthos Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Activision confirmed that its Guitar Hero division is closing, DJ Hero is being killed, and that True Crime Hong Kong is being canceled in its fourth-quarter conference call this afternoon. Our condolences to everyone who lost their jobs. source: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/02/09/rumor-guitar-hero-dead-massive-activision-layoffs.aspx That's a big franchise that Activision has killed in Guitar Hero. I know some thought it was played out, but it was Rock Band's only real competition. Do you think the loss of those franchises above will hurt Activision in the long run?
Mav Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 They'll be fine, they'll just publish Call of Duty: Subtitle Here and make more millions.
JediAthos Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 sadly that is far too close to the truth
Ctrl Alt Del Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I actually approve this (not the layoffs, of course). Gameplay wise, GH2 was the only one to add something new. Don't get me wrong, GH is amazingly fun. But turning it into another endless franchise, recycled every year with a new package and same content. They did the right thing.

I can't fathom the logic behind buying the same game every year, and I'm glad that at least one such title is being axed (for now).
ChAiNz.2da Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Activision ( World of Warcraft + Starcraft + Call of Duty) = They aren't hurting by letting the geetarz go.

DarthParametric Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 There's a rumour that Activision are planning on buying Take-Two/2K, which would mean acquiring Rockstar and the GTA franchise, hence why they canned True Crime (which would compete apparently). Annual GTA anyone?
Mav Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Grand Theft Auto: Call of Guitar DJ Warfare Heroes
Ctrl Alt Del Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 ^ Put Bioshock somewhere in this title and it'll sell like democracy on the desert.
Jae Onasi Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Harmonix just split off Rock Band and is its own company again--I suspect EA/Activision/etc. aren't seeing $$$ in music games anymore, although I have to say Billy Joel on RB3 is major win.
JediAthos Posted February 14, 2011 Author Posted February 14, 2011 I would guess you're probably right Jae. I would imagine that they were probably getting beaten solidly by Rock Band and just decided to throw in the towel.
Drunkside Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I dont really care, I havent played GH since it made me pick up the real guitar
