ya i'm not a fan of bush either - he's too extreme! Doesn't seem to have any thoughts sometimes...and god forbid he should speak! ack. You know...Clinton was a slime ball...but at least he was kinda rounded as far as being too "extreme". But sometimes our choices for Presidents REALLY Suck. Its hard to choose especially when all they do is bash eachother down and really don't talk about their plans for the country or their values.

Yeah So what if America is a little odd. Its no less odd then you leather short wearing, World War having, coffee shop pot heads.

So what if in the US we shield our childrens eyes if there is a breast exposed on television, only to later allow the child to watch a violent movie which we consider ok as long as no one uses a bad word.

The best things about the US...

You like women? We have them in every flavor available :)

You like cars? We have streets big enough and gas cheap enough to allow you to get whatever car you want

You like guns? We have enough guns to take over France in the morning and be back by dinner time.

You like a certain weather type? We have them all from FreezemNutz Alaska to ToastumNutz Nevada

Around here 40% or more of your paycheck goes to taxes. If you earn well, you end up paying up to 70% taxes. (and I'm not talking about stinky rich people)

We also pay (just checked) 1.15 € = $ for one litre of gas. But then again - we rarely drive (and I quote)

ugly big petrol wasting whales!

So I guess that makes us even. :D

Yeah...the US media... I get pissed off by the Finnish media every now and then but.. they're not even comparable.

Last week I bought my first British newspaper. It was quite a shock. And it wasn't nearly one of the worst one's I think. The Daily Mail? Mirror...? I can't remember.

Anyways - the stories were so utterly disqusting stating from straight out lies to checkbook journalism. --> "Tell us (or simply make up) a story about some british celeb who squeezed your underage-thighs and we'll pay you 70.000 £"

Can't believe people read that stuff..or get away with publishing it! Víva la freedom of speech

Another funny thing (sorry for getting off topic) I noticed was the way British papers make their topics. Made me laugh for quite some time. They really like word-games don't they..?

--> "Billy flashes Willy, Christina Aquileather, Ricky's pricky, A ham for Beck' ....uh...well, you know..."Ouchie for Coachie"-kind of topics on every page. I found it hysterical. But maybe that's just me. :D

I don't find Clinton to be a "slimeball" at all - yes he messed around where he shouldn't, but he is by far the better president of the two. And being the best president, when you're a president is the thing that's most important.

And don't even start about your "heavy taxes".... LOL - In Denmark we have to give up 60% of everything we earn....

They aren't really stealing, the gov't put that money to damn good use here in Denmark: taking good care of the weak - you can actually live comfortably in Dk without a job at all.

Of course, the huge tax means that moonlighting is a national sport here, as well.... hehehe....

Here we go, I got a few funky laws for ya...

New York:

A fine of $25 can be levied for flirting. This old law specifically prohibits men from turning around on any city street and looking "at a woman in that way." A second conviction for a crime of this magnitude calls for the violating male to be forced to wear a "pair of horse-blinders" wherever and whenever he goes outside for a stroll.

It is against the law to throw a ball at someone's head for fun.

A license must be purchased before hanging clothes on a clothesline.

The penalty for jumping off a building is death.

North Dakota:

Beer and pretzels can't be served at the same time in any bar or restaurant.

It is illegal to lie down and fall asleep with your shoes on.

And, my personal favorite...

Louisiana

It is illegal to rob a bank and then shoot at the bank teller with a water pistol. (NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!)

You actually beleive that Right Wing nonsense? HAHA!

Let me put it to you like this. Farmer in the southern states have farms that hire mexican illegals to work for $1 an hour. No say they have 100 workers, working 10 hour days for one year (52 weeks).

100 x 10 = 1000 Hours a day of labor

1000 x 5 = 5000 hours a week

5000 x 52 = 260,000 Hours a year which costs the farmers $260,000 at a dollar an hour

Compare that to what should "lagally" be paid to them even at minimum wage

260,000 x $5.45 = 1,417,000.00 (thats a $1,157,000.00 difference per hundred illegal workers and there are much more then a hundred)

So when you think that the "illegals" are exploiting our money think again champ. We are the ones exploiting them! Do realise how many farms and construction companies would go under if they had to pay the legal rate for work? Do you also realise that without illegals around that they would struggle to find any americans that would work even HALF as hard as they do for minimum wage!

So please don't blame illegals, it just makes you look ignorant.

Do you see fault in my logic, Shock?

I could also point out that White folk use more Welfare money then anyone else.

Or perhaps the poor white kentucky boys that grow 1/3 of this nations marajuana supply, yet still collect welfare?

Hehe I was being nice :)

and in Denmark what does moonlighting mean?

here it means having 2 jobs and not telling either of them.

Sowwwy! Screwed up, I did...

What I meant with moonlighting, is that you work for someone and don't pay taxes off your salary.

Example: I work 90 kroner an hour (moonlighting, or working "black" as we call it), so instead of recieving only a mere 40 kroner, as I should, I get the full monty = 90 kroner.

Both a benefit for the employer and the employee, but unfortunately, also illegal :(

Also, I blame the illegals :D

Eh?

I've never assumed any of you would indulge in the sueing, or anything like that. I believe you can't do a damn thing about the stupid laws in your country etc.

However, you could have voted for a president with a wee higher IQ, IMHO....

This thread wasn't made to bash americans, merely to point out some illogical laws and stuff in God's own country.

You're free to provide us with some equally insane laws and inconsinstencies in other countries. Go ahead.

If gore was president on 9/11 He wouldn’t have attacked the Afgans... oh no, he would get everyone thinking he's so grate because he was nice to the cute little people who killed thousands of OUR Countrymen.

Bush did the right thing, yes Civs in Afgan died, that’s war its the way it is and that wont change. incase you didn’t notice, Bush liberated one of the most oppressed country’s in the world. you think otherwise? i dare you to prove me wrong.

It's not as if the people of Afghanistan liked us... they where having a frikin party the day the 2 towers fell

"Grate" is spelled G-r-e-a-t you know...

I live in the US and I thought this thread was funny.

I live near San Fransico (Marin/San Rafael to be exact) and there's this town near by (Tiberion (sp?)). The citizens there decided one day to make a new law: leaf blowers are now illegal. Crazy

Just to tell everybody, I hate all presidents. Vote for the Green Party!!! :)

I've had the opportunity to view some products that were sold in the US market. Very amusing.

Take, for example, a car: It is filled with little tags, warnings. Somehow it seems that Americans will get hurt/sue otherwise.

For example: the rear-view mirror had a tag that said: Warning! Objects seen in the mirror might in reality be closer than it seems! ........lol...........

And another one (this tag was found on all 4 tyres): WARNING! Lying under the car while it is moving may be hazardous!

And: "Warning! Swallowing the cigarrette lighter may cause constipation and burns!"

(Okay, I made some of them up, but you get the idea.)

Another thing: I met a lawyer, who had just made a deal with a US-company. Americans bought some elevators from his Finnish company. He showed me the contract documents they normally use when selling products abroad. It was few pages long. Then he pulled out the contract they had just signed with the American company....it was like the friggin' phone book of Tokio!

Yeah...everything had to be covered.. f.ex § 73,4 b: The manufacturer will not be accountable for injuries caused by "repetitive banging of head against door when trying to exit elevator in motion".

Oh - remember that old lady who tried to dry her cat in the microwave oven? Can't believe they didn't cover that one in the agreement...or at least put a warning-sticker about it!? *sigh* poor old lady... I sure hope the ****load of money she was awarded helped her get past the sorrow of loosing her cat.

I also saw the cell-phone of an US exchange student a while ago. It was a Nokia (Nokia is Finnish.), just like the ones we are using. Yet there was something different about it. It was filled with writing and...whatever..

It looked like a new "Nokia 3210 - Special edition for the mentally handicapped and kids between ages 3-7."

Seriously... can't they RTFM? They need every function possible written on the phone itself? :p

Okay, I'm all done for now. :D

As far as the labeling stuff, yeah, that gets way overboard. But the sad thing is that they have those labels because SOMEBODY did that at one time. (Theres a funny Jeff Foxworthy skit about this). On the little bags of silcate gel you find in the box with most electronics, it says "DO not eat this." Well, no ****...
