mercatfat
People seem to complain about the ads UGO runs often. Here's another debate. What's so un-family friendly about a little cleavage? Why do we get so uptight about breasts? I can understand anger at the BMX XXX ads which were full-blown censored nudity, but these are just women, maybe a little provocative, but no more than many 'family' television shows, even kids cartoons. Personal ads are personal ads. While we shouldn't be so vain as to call ourselves a Star Wars set of forums since we have non-SW forums as well, they are our main attraction. Since there's a major, perhaps true, stereotype that Star Wars fans are single, as are many geeks who visit geek sites under UGO's wing, personal ads, even semi-provocative, are an advertising staple. Also, UGO actually pays, and decently too. That's the main reason we keep them, unless you think we can get by on donations. Besides, isn't it like a requirement that you have to be at least 13 to post here? I think they can take a little bit of 'steam', even if they are Acrylic. Don't take the ads so personally, since if you do, chances are you aren't the target audience. Judging by the birthdays, it seems most people here are between 17 and 25, so honestly I think we can lighten up a bit. If the ads caught your eye, they did their job. Breasts do it effortlessly. Live with it.
C'jais
All true. I don't mind. In fact, for the most part I don't notice them that much. But they're sure nice to look at After spending a lot of time on the 'net, I think most users develops an ability to mentally block out banners in general. I don't see 'em, I don't click 'em. But if they pay for all this, sure.

ShadowTemplar
Where did the whole nudity taboo come from anyway [/rethorical question]? I seriously don't care. If some people are offended, sure, do whatever reasonable to please them. But, seriously, why couldn't people go around naked if they please (that said they won't "please" right here and now: It's freezing between -5C and -20C (253K-268K, sorry don't know what it is in F, too tired to remember the scale)). Clothes are, IMO, chiefly for maintaining a certain body temperture. If one wants to cover oneself with them even when not strictly nessecary, I guess that's their choice. If they don't, well that would be their choice also, wouldn't it? Now, this attitude would not necessarily lead to a sex-orgy, if that's what people are afraid of. In many cultures clothes are not used. I think that what makes us connect lack of clothes with sex is that it is against concensus to remove them save in the above situation. So, after people had gotten use to the situation, it would be no different than different fashions. But I just may be simply ranting...
FunClown
I guess its up to who runs the site. So I don't care. I'm here aren't I?
Taos
I'm with Cjais.....I really don't notice the banners all that much anyways. In fact, the only time I do notice them is when people post threads showing them. So they don't bother me. If I do happen to notice one....well hey, I'm a guy.....I'm gonna look. I'm happy that they pay us well and I kinda figured that there was a reason that we still had them around. Reguardless of the ads.....I'm still going to come here. GonkH8er
The ads that really piss me off are those "congradulations" ones, with the guy and the chick sitting on the scooter. (it'd be nice if they could spell the word ) Everytime I refresh or open a LF page, it hangs my whole computer for 10 seconds before it loads. It pisses me off to no end. I really should get a popup stopper, but that takes effort, and effort's not part of my schedule. But we're exposed to more pronography in real life, on tv and elsewhere on the net than we'll ever be exposed to here. I consider this place incredibly tame in terms of indecent material in ads. But the ads, albeit relatively harmless, are offensive and quite innapropriate for some of our forum goers....

Guest Jed
I personally don't understand why people notice them. I rarely even glance at them, and was only aware of them when someone at Aresen made a thread about them. They don't bother anyone, nor do any real damage. And popups are annoying, but they don't bother anyone...altho I just got a popup a few minutes ago and my antivirus shut it down....it contained a virus. Scared the bejesus out of me. But in conclusion, let's not let these banners bother us.
Surfnshannon
I'm not really AGAINST the banner ads...I just find them funny. These people think that by sticking a pretty girl on there ...or someone who looks "easy" that they are going to get you to click on their site. This probably works...because sex sells. I really just wish instead of the pop-ups for Casino's, and the army that they would put up ads for games etc. I have seen some...for games...but I see a lot more cheesy girly ads. Darth Groovy
The BMX ones were a little risque. I had to pitch a bitch about those. And a few of us complained and they got yoinked faster than a Anna Nicole Smith on a date. I got a little, just a little mind you, about this much | | uptight with the add that has a condom and a lipstick, what's up with that anyway? My best suggestion: Go to download.com and get Pop-Up Stopper by Panicwear, and there is another one called no-ads that does just what it says. Luc Solar
Aaah...pop-ups. How many times have I been "congratulated" during the last few weeks... I don't know - 1.000 times? If I click on a link and more than one window starts loading up, my left hand automatically reaches for 2 keys: "Alt" and "F4." i do not know why he pop-up congratulates me, 'cause I've never let it load up. (And I have broadband...that says something about how fast I kill pop-ups.) Honestly - who is dumb enough to click on those things?! You think they want to give you something for free? You think they got something really cool that hey want to share with you? I trust pop-ups just as much as I trust the nice lady who wrote a letter to my hotmail account today saying that she is a very rich bitch and horny and just wants me to click on a link and it'll give me a 70% bigger penis. .... please do not insult my intelligence. Yea, I am in the not noticing group. I mean, I hate marketing and advertising so much I Never look at ads. Even if it has a sexy girl. I would not click a banner even if it were for a product I was interested in.
Syfo-Dyas
I'm in the school of thought that see's nothing wrong with nudity -and YES, it's COLD here too... And a lovely pair of breasts are wonderfull things to behold -or just to hold... Hey, I'm married. I can talk like this!!! I am for more pretty girls(not models, average girls look fine to me) and more breasts (any size or shape -I love them all...), and fewer "CLICK HERE TO WIN YOUR PRIZE" and other stupid adds that try to fool me into clicking them by putting 'close wiindow' icons in the upper right corner. Puh-leeze! I'm not that dumb... Also, I make it a point NEVER to click on ANY banner ad. I know I'm going to get slammed with unlimited popup windows for every conceivable site in Loserville -and a million Double-Click cookies are going to end up on my computer. Why would I ever want to click on some stupid banner ad? Popup-Stopper is a MUST have on the Internet these days! It takes only a short time to download, and it keeps that crap from getting in my way. I keep the start-up icon on my taskbar by my 'Start' button. When I need it, it stays quietly in my system tray, and can easily be disabled when I want. Love it! If you're still stuck with a dial-up connection (and MOST folks are), you should really be using Opera as your default browser instead of Explorer. It lets you easily load text without images, and switch images on and off -among other things. Your pages will load MUCH faster, and you'll thank yourself for using it.
