BEE Gee Maurice Gibb died in hospital this morning, his family said.

The 53-year-old had been in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a heart attack during an operation to remove an intestinal blockage after he collapsed at his Florida home last week.

His wife Yvonne and his two children had been with him at the Mount Sinai Medical Centre in Miami since the surgery on Thursday night.

A statement released by his family said: "It is with great sadness and sorrow that we regretfully announce the passing of Maurice Gibb this morning.

"His love and enthusiasm and energy for life remain an inspiration to all of us. We will all deeply miss him."

and please, no poor taste jokes like "not-so staying alive" :)

"Till I finally died, and started the whole world living...."

If we can take heart from their lyrics in "I Started A Joke" and in his death, make the Bee Gees live forever more.....

Vale Maurice Gibb - Not born here, but we will always see you as an Aussie.....

*sniff* guess disco is truly dead...

The thing I don't really get, is all the people in here asking who he was...

"BEE Gee Maurice Gibb" as Gonk said, was one of the members of the Bee Gee's, a group who are most famous for their 70's disco song "Staying Alive" (I know everyone has heard this song at least once.) They even did a comeback a few years ago, and I believe they were planning on releasing another album again soon.

He will be sorely missed in the world of music. Quite sad to see that the saying "Only the good die young" is still coming true today...

RIP Maurice Gibb.

It always happens to the nice people. You never hear of drug pushers dieing when they're young...

Flanders, I think your post was a little immature.

Aw jeez....

*hangs head down in sorrow*

Just read about it a few minutes ago...truly saddening. The disco world has lost another great member....

My thoughts go out to the family.

Just recently it was Joe Strummer. Next will most likely be Warren Zevon. The spookey thing is that I was watching my new Saturday Night Fever DVD when I first heard the news. That really, really spooked me.
