Clemme w/Stick
Yes, I'm back with another thread. This time its about the SW fan film "Art of the Saber 2" by the Ho brothers. For those of you who dont have clue on what I'm talking about, heres a link. Art of the Saber 2 Well, I want to say that the choreograhy is really good in this one. Its better than in most of the other Fan Films made. Of course the saber fights in the SW movies are better, but this is soo good considering its a fan film. They have a good way of mixing saber fighting with martial arts, dont miss it! This movie is too good a f/x project to miss it. Dont miss your opportunity to watch and enjoy this clip. D-load and watch..! Have any1 seen this movie? If you have what did you think of it? If you havent, then you should see it! Just to make this interesting I've made it a poll, lets see what ya'll think about the movie. EDIT: I voted Really good -Clemme

Andy867
I saw it the day it was released on TFN website. It was a good break from the stereotypical STAR-WARSY fanfilms. The Intro, the music, and mixing the martial arts was definitely a breath of fresh air for star wars fans. I loved the film, even though some people have a problem with the forest setting. I personally liked the dialogue at the beginning. Definitely helps set the mood for the film. A+ in my book:)

Eldritch
I liked the proof of concept they did back a few months ago, and this short film was really entertaining. A simple monologue, good music, and nice action - everything a good film (even a short one) should have. Best fan film I've seen yet.

Luc Solar
Those guys are talented. Very nice! They obviously spent a lot of time and effort on the thing...makes you wonder why they didn't find something more suitable for the guys to wear? Black sweatpants? WTF!? Black sweatpants? WTF!? They actually spent 4 days on this particular project, and they also said the reason for their attire. They felt that wearing Jedi Robes and vests would make them look like dorks, and their whole idea for this project was to break the stereotypical Jedi/Sith Lightsaber Duel FanFilm idea. They just wanted to do what they wanted to do with no serious connections cept a lightsaber and a good guy(Jedi) and the villain(Sith).
JediNyt
Best saber fight in a fan film, definately. Those guys should be hired for other SW fan films. Hey I think they should be in Ep3. Their choreography is about as good as the real SW movies. I hope directors are paying attention to films like that. They deserve to go far. Well, if they arent going to be in ep3, at least they could make some of the fight choreography ! -Clemme

JediNyt
Maybe you should try updating Quik Time. I did and I think it works better. Its faster anyway. But restart a couple times before trying again after updating. They always take awhile cause theyre movies. 43mb shoud take a few mins even with a good connection. Didn't know they were intentionally breaking stereotypes. Georgie should hire these guys for Ep III. They need no more practise. But if I may complain about something else now that you cleared up the thing about the pants.. --> some of the moves very a bit too "Kung-Fu" imho. The scene was cool with sabers, but the fight would have suited normal blades better. (f.ex when flipping the saber around the sith's saber...and sticking the sabers into the ground [the weight of the hilt should've pushed the saber deeper etc.] But then it wouldn't be Star Wars anymore, would it? )
nova_wolf
Flawless. I once downloaded a movie of a pair of american youths renacting the Ep! duel set piece, and it was flawless, but this is done from scratch, with developed ideas, using sources and material you wouldn't even think of in connection with the SW continum, and came up with the BEST piece of fan fic sabering I think I have yet to see! Great Work!
Andy867
Its funny how people think almost any melee fighting on screen is kung fu, which is understandable to the naked eye, any form of hand to hand/foot/weapon fighting may appear to be kung fu, but unfortunately, kung fu was very loosely used in the filming. The fighting styles that were used were Tae Kwan Do, Northern Style Kung Fu, and Wu Shu, under the guidance of Yuru Xu. So, just a little FYI , but definitely an awesome fanfilm overall. Andy867
Tips on getting Art Of the Saber 2 to run properly: 1- have the most recent version of Quicktime Player, which I believe is now up to 6.0 2- When accessing the site, RIGHT-CLICK the file and click either copy to location for netscape users or Save Target As... for Internet Explorer users. This will allow you to download the video and then watch it instead of trying to hassle with watching it as it downloads. 3- Make sure to download it to a common location like the desktop. Once the 43mb file is done downloading, go to the folder and double-click the file and watch and enjoy. P.S. It never hurts to have the most recent versions of your video and sound card. BlackDove
Egh, ok here we go with this one...first of all I admire the attempt, better that then nothing...however that would work much better if they used forms of katanas and not sabres...naturally you can't do that kind of a variety of moves with a katana (because it's not 360 stomach wrenching action) but still uhh, I don't see what the sabres are doing there or any kind of affiliation to Star Wars that clip might have. Yes, the Jedi robes would make them look like dorks, however sweatshirt and some jogging pants don't work the trick...also an attempt to blend...matrix???? into the look of the double bladed sabre character doesn't work also. However definatly better than wearing the Jedi robes... All in all, watching the coreography moves, they are made to look flashy, they didn't go for effect, and the last move is no less than pitifully excecuted...however it took a lot to remember when doing it, and given that it's a free range movie, the coreography I consider excellent. The monologue was horrid...could have been done much better, and usually those kinds of monologues are in japanese, NOT english, and for a reason...uhm, music during it all kinda clashed with the whole jedi sabre idea....could have been done much better in the end instead of ripping off zimmers gladiator theme..... all in all mediocre, but since that wasn't an option, i had to go for "horrible"...the thing is nice and flashy and keeps the brain entertained, but only for so long... great attempt tho, a full complement for trying and actually going through with it
Hekx
Ah, I invested quite a bit of time and downloaded the movie file. All I can say is.. WOW. That fan film ruled! The only part I disliked, was how he somehow finished the guy off, I mean what was that? Leaning backstroke of Doom! I found the purple-blade guy's abiltiy to weild the dualblade and dual sabres excellent. It was a nice movie and very enjoyable. I suggest you download / watch it. I rate it: 8.5/10 (The back-finisher was a little odd )
