Is there any chance for some freelance work for those that feel they could write an article for any of the sections, but don't feel they could do it all of the time?

Wouldn't expect a high wage, or that every article would get posted, but would also offer many more the chance to contribute, without having to do it on a regular basis.

Any chance of having an "Odd Spot" part in the newspaper, mentioning something true, but wierd and wonderful that almost seems unbelievable? I am sure there are people out there that would love to look for this kind of stuff!!

Also, why not also have an article about the news in a certain country, which changes from week to week, giving more of a spread of what is going on everywhere, and not just to where the reporters are situated.

i was too lazy to read a;; the posts so i dont know if someone else has said this but anyhow here goes. if you are going to do a online news thingee this is what i would do

(a)ask jk2 admin or whatever to give you your own special section ie the swamp is one part of jk2 but not all of it.

(b)inside this new section will be subsections each for every aspect of the swamp press. so a editorial section would be one thread, daily comics another, reviews another, wacky stories, cartoons etc. each section or the whole section would need a mod or two running them. the sections should be so that swampies can read the stuff but not contribute only the daily swamp press members. one thread should be open and that would be a letter to the editor thread where swampites can dis flame or yay or nay the swamp press articles,

one other thread should also be for want ads and personals, such as hey i just got a new cat, selling my bike etc etc etc. swampies who want to post in that section should submit stuff to swamp press, pay a token fee for adverts etc, and then the swamp press will place the thing in. if its a long running thing they should pay oh lets say 3 credits a week to keep it in, if not it would be posted for some reasonable time.

if you plan to have

and its the only section i would contribute to I would be willing for the mystic eggplant to be the swamp press's resident astrologer. there could also be a anne landers person, chooose someone who gives a flying frig though. anyhow having been on several college papers thats the news as I see it.

you may also consider making a site for this dont you know with a link from here to there or just a thread telling people to go there. its a good idea though

and here's a news flash for ya,

tomorrow i'm having chicken tonight, chicken tonight,

actually it is tomorrow now so KFC I iz like half a day away from noshing you.:D

I wasn't around anytime back in March; I was busy with school, but I have read all the posts. Some ideas really popped out as bad in my mind, even though this seems like a fun idea. First forget about having people register for positions; let people write whatever articles they want and then have one or more volunteers collect them all and organize them into a neat layout. The 3 strikes deal might be ok when one person must be counted on, but in this case just let anyone contribute want they want to the paper. If you have more than one person write about an event, don't worry about it. In fact make it into a differing views piece. Next any person can volunteer to edit, pieces, or compile them into a semi paper format. At the end of each paper you can include links to any sources that may offer more information.

It would be best to have it be a weekly paper. Have a set deadline like friday of every week and then post it as a sticky on sunday, keep in for a week, allowing comments about the articles as other posts, then start over perhaps saving only the paper as a backlog. Forget about commitments, but let it be known that the paper will only exists with the support of the volunteer article writers. If you happen to miss a week, no big deal, just submit articles when you feel like it. As for article writers don't feel a need to write long articles. If it can actually stay supported over time it may be able to develop into many of the ideas put forth in this thread but it likely won't happen with only a few weekly papers.

As far as registering with that form, you don't honestly think your going to trick me into saying my name, nickname, or other such handle now do you? :p

PS. I do actually have something's in mind for features, but others are going to have to put things in motion if any part of the paper is to happen.
