Why does Lucas Kill of Cool characters quickly?

Well, I'm sure that somebody has some kind of conspiracy theory with regards to this, but I honestly wish I knew.

The only thing is, you forgot Qui-Gon on your list [another cool character IMO ;)]. All of these characters are some of my most favorite SW ones.....and they're all dead. :(

:p Oh I do apologize I'm being selfish and thinking of my own favorite characters. Qui-Gon was pretty cool.... They could have at least overlaped into the next movie or gave them more screen time to make up for killing them off so fast..... But Qui-Gon got ample screen time ....

Well considering that star wars is based on the skywalker family most other characthers are killed because they wouldn't be important in the next movie ie-maul,if not been killed that fight would have ended by maul killing obi1 thuse not having the rest of the movies , or qui-gon not getting killed would have messed it all up since we already know that obi1 tarins anakin and then ani falls to the dark side that's mosetly the reasons why GL kills off all the good side characthers like jango, maul etc

And dooku kicks ass IMO look how weak obi1 was against him ;)

Perhaps Lucas sought to remedy what he saw from the OT movies (and later on in the EU books and comics) that the character from the OT movies (Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, ...) seemed too untouchable, nearly immortal as they survived anything thrown at them. And by having cool characters like Maul, Qui-Gon and Jango killed Lucas wants tot show how dramatic a time it is and how powerful the battles were?

I think this is the best explaination so far. :)

Or......He kills them off just so he can make room for the next cool character.

Just think if Maul was around there wouldn't be a need for Dooku. If Qui was still around that would definitely mess up the story he has going now.

IMO it is just to make space for the next cool characters and to provide for contintuity.

How many people think the prequel trilogy characters would live if he had made the OT last and been able to leave them in there?

i just named characters that were killed in the first movie they appeared in. (but i did forget greedo, thanks for the reminder.:) ). anyway, from my point of view i think boba is still alive and i think he could have survived the sarlaac. IMO.:D

I think Darth Maul should've stayed alive in EPI and get more attention in EPII, more lines etc :) Cause Dooku is just pathetic, not one of my favorite characters anyway... Dooku doesn't fit in the story as Darth Sidious's apprentice

And yeah Jango was killed too soon too!! (:))

Well the Original Trilogy didn't have THAT many casualties either, apart from the stormies :)
