Try to liven the forums up and topics get closed. Don't know what more you can do to try and put some life into this place.

I guess it's a shame also when people can't even promote a forum for a fan game that he's made. Shame really.

He can promote it, nobody had replied to it and it was sinking any way. It doesn't warrant any replies, you can still read it and follow the link when it's closed. As for your topics that got locked Natty, they're just crap, but some though into them, try to get discussion going, don't just post some lyrics to naff pop songs

I didn't even see it till after it was closed, otherwise I would have replied.

What I am complaining about is this thread

http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=99862

Especially when you consider that there's lots of posts about having sex with Bill Gates. Isn't it slightly hypocritical? Besides it's not like it was no secret as to what the topic was about so obviously you're not going to look at it. And no one had complained about it, at least not to me anyway. How are we supposed to feel like we're having any sort of fun at all if posts keep getting closed?

As for the naff pop lyrcis my whole aim was to get them closed so obviously I achieved that :p

Natty, you need to resort back to the rules placed by LF. I know that ALOT of us have alot of respect for you, but you have been spamming alot lately and out of control, the topic you posted was not appropriet for a forum designed for children and fans of lucasarts. If we did not act accordingly, we would not be doing our duties as mods. In case you have forgot, here are the basic rules:

Forum Rules/Code of Conduct

It seems that there has been an increase in activities on the boards that go to forum rules... forum rules that were previously only known through common sense and message board experience. The moderators have decided to lay out the rules so there will be no question when they are broken. The result is:

If these look familiar, that's because they were blatantly ripped off from the GalacticBattles.com forums. Thanks to the guys over there who provided the basic rules, and thanks to the others here who tailored them to fit our needs at JKII.net.

Rules

1. You cannot, in any way, insult (or "flame") someone else on the board. People may not be insulted just because their opinion differs from your own. Flaming includes calling people names, insulting them in any way or saying offensive things to them.

2. Refrain from using excessive profanity in your posts. Basically, let the censor do its job. Don't attempt to undermine it.

3. Spamming is strictly prohibited. Your post needs to contribute to the discussion or the topic.

Spam Details

In any discussion board, the continuous posting of messages irrelevant to the topic or discussion is strictly prohibited.

You should not consistently be able to look up at your screen and see that the majority of topics or messages on a page were just created or posted by you.

To Discuss: To talk about a subject in detail.

To Chat: To talk in a light, familiar way. Informal talk. (ie one sentence posts such as, "I agree" etc.)

Chatting is considered spamming and will be dealt with accordingly in the Valley of the Jedi forum and other JKII-related boards, but will be tolerated in Yoda's Swamp. Please remember, however, that Yoda's Swamp is for off-topic discussion, not no-topic discussion. Threads that are blatantly spammy in nature or just pure spam will be locked at the staff's discretion.

End of Spam Details

4. The posting of links to sites that contain illegal material (ie where to get illegal MP3s, warez, etc.) is prohibited.

5. The posting of obcene material is not allowed. (ie pornography, violent and disturbing images and/or writings.)

6. Avoid duplicating anybody's nickname, avatar, and/or sig images. Make or find your own. This also applies to people outside our community (ie names of people of another community). It is strictly prohibited to impersonate someone else.

7. Threads and posts must be placed in their apropriate forums. See this thread for more details, and be sure to check out the forum description before posting your message in it.

8. Before posting a new topic, do a search to see if there is already a recent thread pertaining to what yours is about. If there is already a post similar to yours, feel free to read it and post a reply which will bring it to the top. Note that sometimes the search function is disabled, so do your best without it.

9. Be specific in the naming of your topic. This will aid in topic searches and help prevent someone from posting something you already have.

10. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s). We reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you.

11. You may not register another account under the same IP number. You must also use a valid email address when registering.

12. You may not re-register after receiving a ban.

13. You may not post threads dealing with the amount of posts you have.

14. Do not hound current moderators or admins. This is namely referring to the recent influx of unwanted moderator applications.

15. You may not post topics asking people to buy an item of yours, nor may you make a topic asking others if they have a certain item you can buy from them.

Penalties

Penalties for registering another account under the same IP:

The person be warned, and the extra account(s) will be immediately deleted. If the person recidivates, his/her IP will be banned from the community.

Penalties for spamming, cussing, and flaming:

First, the person will receive a public warning in the thread in which the offense occurred.

If the person does not comply, he/she will be given a final warning via private message.

If the person keeps flaming/cussing/spamming, he/she will be banned.

Spamming may also result in the reduction of the user's post count(to 0).

Penalties for stealing:

The "victim" (the person whose username/sig/avatar/etc. was stolen) will be contacted by the mods. This person will decide what penalty to enforce. The mods will then see if it's an adequate penalty.

Penalties concerning illegal activities:

If the person posted links to ROM sites and/or warez sites, the post will be edited and the person will be warned. If the person do it again, it's a temporary ban.

If it's about posting pornography, the user will be permanently banned without warning.

And the most important rule of all: Don't be stupid

It's a good rule that covers a lot of ground.

These rules were originally drafted over at GalacticBattles.com. They have been modified mainly by OnlyOneCanoli. Minor rule adjustment/addition by matt-windu and the rest of the LucasForums/jk2.net staff.

Sorry if you disagree with this, but there has to be some standards to hold on too, alot of which have been out the window lately with these forums. If you disagree, I suggest you PM a LucasForum Admin.

All I'm saying is that it is hypocrtical to close my thread when it was clearly stated what it was about, yet not closing a thread about sex with Bill Gates, which wasn't stated clearly.

Also what is really wrong with those test things? They are supposed to be fun. I understand you guys have a job to do, but it feels like you're picking on us for every single little thing we do. I have nothing but respect for the mods (OK I admit I did basically imply otherwise but I am insulted) all I ask is that we get some respect in return and at the moment I don't feel like I'm getting that. I know it's only a silly topic, but if you were doing your job you would have closed the Bill Gates sex topic thingie as well.

Well I thought the topic was amusing, but I saw a picture of a cartoon in a sexual position, and another in an even more provactaive position, and keep in mind that the average LucasForum member is about 12 years of age, and the "porn character bit" is NOT something we want to promote on LF. Also keep in mind it was not ME who closed the thread and edited the images, but that of an LF supermod, however, had I been an LF supermod, I would have done the same thing. Those sort of topics are just not appropriet for the LF boards. We do not promote porn around here... sorry.:(

OK, well give me one good damn reason why those pictures are appropriet for this forum then?

Seeing that some supermod opened the thread back up, I am even more pissed, what do you guys think? You can post whatever the Hell you want over here? I will fight this at any means necessary. This is LucasForums, not Penthouse....dammit!

Oh come on NOW. The average 12 year old is pretty clued up. I'm sorry, but I have an 11 year old neighbour who knows what blowjobs are and everything! And most kids that come online do their fair share of 'investigating'.

By making the forum for all age groups you're unfortunately undermining the larger majority of the users. Most users of the harbor are MI fans, and most MI fans are fans of the old games and are about 16-25 (Am I right?).

By employing silly, baby rules you're certainly making it safe for younger children, but alienating your older and more faithful forum users, hence turning them away.

I think the rules should be reconsidered slightly and younger users are the ones that should be undermined, not the older ones.

I don't care about lewd topics, as long as they aren't ****, which is what alot of people have been posting (Natty/Yufster) please think before you post a topic "Is there any point to this? will people care? will it get people talking? Am I making myself look stupid by posting this?"

thanking you kindly

Actually your the only person on the forums lately that seems to be making any sense, everyone else just wants to call me Nazi, for getting a thread closed or whatever....

I didn't call anyone a Nazi. Sheeeeesh. As for the rules...

1. You cannot, in any way, insult (or "flame") someone else on the board. People may not be insulted just because their opinion differs from your own. Flaming includes calling people names, insulting them in any way or saying offensive things to them. I didn't flame anyone I just asked a few simple questions as to why it was closed, nothing more, I wouldn't have minded if a valid reason was given as to why it was closed but a 3 worded response is not valid IMO

2. Refrain from using excessive profanity in your posts. Basically, let the censor do its job. Don't attempt to undermine it. Well I could dodge the censor if I wanted to, I'm not that sort of person

3. Spamming is strictly prohibited. Your post needs to contribute to the discussion or the topic. Yes and all I was trying to do was liven the forums up and get some conversations going. I hardly call that spamming.

4. The posting of links to sites that contain illegal material (ie where to get illegal MP3s, warez, etc.) is prohibited. Does Kazaa count?

[/i]5. The posting of obcene material is not allowed. (ie pornography, violent and disturbing images and/or writings.) [/i] As far as I'm concerned pornography is something you'd probably find on a playboy site where she's getting it in both holes while sucking on a 3rd. Those images were hardly pornographic compared to what *is* on the net

6. Avoid duplicating anybody's nickname, avatar, and/or sig images. Make or find your own. This also applies to people outside our community (ie names of people of another community). It is strictly prohibited to impersonate someone else. Haven't done it

7. Threads and posts must be placed in their apropriate forums. See this thread for more details, and be sure to check out the forum description before posting your message in it. Do that anyway

8. Before posting a new topic, do a search to see if there is already a recent thread pertaining to what yours is about. If there is already a post similar to yours, feel free to read it and post a reply which will bring it to the top. Note that sometimes the search function is disabled, so do your best without it. Been there, done that

9. Be specific in the naming of your topic. This will aid in topic searches and help prevent someone from posting something you already have. I always have tried to be as specific as I can about my topics

10. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s). We reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you. ummmmm duh? Oh BTW, what if someone hacks your account? How can you be responsible if someone hacks your account and changes your password?

11. You may not register another account under the same IP number. You must also use a valid email address when registering. I am well aware of this fact.

12. You may not re-register after receiving a ban. But people do anyway don't they? Maybe you should just IP ban, would probably be a lot easier

13. You may not post threads dealing with the amount of posts you have. I'm sure a lot of people get excited when their status changes, I think it's only natural, but oh well, that's just me

14. Do not hound current moderators or admins. This is namely referring to the recent influx of unwanted moderator applications. I haven't

[/i]15. You may not post topics asking people to buy an item of yours, nor may you make a topic asking others if they have a certain item you can buy from them.[/i] What about PM?

And I agree with NiKo, awhile ago the forums had dirty banners all over them and that was considered a-ok. Feels like a case of pot-kettle-black to me, it's ok for the owners to have naughty images all over the forums, but it's not ok for forum members to place mild, infact so mild it hardly counts as porn images, in which they get closed.

They were hardly that bad, inappropriate yes, but not much you can do about new ads appearing. You seem to be avoiding the issue of you posting crap, which is what this was about in the first place. Forget all your stupid virtual wankfests and explain why posting lyrics to songs that everybody's hear, but nobody likes is going to get discussion going or liven the place up

No the issue I was addressing was why my topic was closed. The PM I got was right, you guys now act like you're all superior coz you're mods now. At least you guys used to be nice, now it's like you're on a power trip all the time.

Sorry for playing the Devil's advocate here, but to an extent, I can sympathise with the EMI folk.

I do not for a second believe that the average age here is 12 years. 14-15, perhaps, and by then, your brain is not going to fry from seeing a semi-nude cartoon character in "sexually suggestive pose". Not damn likely.

I already did a long post on the censorship in the JK2 mod forum, but I feel closing the thread in question was indeed a hasty decision on Obi's part, and that he should have checked with the regular mods before closing it. In his defence, I think the community and local mods were very bad at communicating back as well, so the blame is split even. Please don't tear his head off, for funks sake - he was only trying to do what he thought was right.

Now kiss and make up.

If he was that concerned about the stupid bloody pictures, all he could have said was "dont post the pics, instead use the words" or something to that effect and I would have not objected. That sort of thing had been posted before, and no mod ever gave a stuff about it, now, out of no where and closes it.

And as for the age thing, no way is the average age 12. I'm nearly 21, NiKo is 17 (I think, at least he's 16) GB122 is 15 (I think) well I can't remember the ages of lots of people but I know they're older than 12, except maybe 1 or 2. Besides, they have the discovery channel, it's not like they're not gonna know what sex is. Sheeeeesh
