Darth Eggplant
well it's 7 days away the new Harry Potter book and a new topic to flood the forum with, giving all a well earned break from Neo this and Neo that. I don't have a book on order yet but I will get it sometime in the week following next saturday. the books are already in storage here in Canada ready to go. and i have to check the main warner brothers HP site i think there are advanced excerts from the book online somewhere. Eldritch
According to my countdown it's 6 days, 0 hours, 39 minutes, and 7 seconds away from going on sale. I'll be attending all the pre-sale festivities at my local bookstore(s), buying the book at midnight, then staying up late reading it. And there are a couple excerpts to be found around the net... they've got a few over at MuggleNet. I haven't read any of them myself, though. I want to be completely surprised. Datheus
Er.. I've never liked Harry Potter. Yes, I did read it. 2 1/2, in fact. I think maybe all the rest of the third... I'm making my way through some of Dogulas Adams' books the "Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy" trilogy... I want to read the DaVinci Code at some point, as well... But Harry Potter just never suited my tastes for some reason. I guess maybe I always felt like she was writing as if I was a child..
Kstar__2
hmm, i always like reading them, though they are a bit simple it will prolly take another two full months b4 it is here in the netherlands though...
Clemme w/Stick
Prolly the same around here in Denmark. Oh well, I have never read any of the books. I enjoy the movies though. Anyways the rest of my family love the books, so I will give them the news sometime today. -Clemme

If you truly believe that, then you've missed a lot of the clues to the mystery that's been unfolding, as well as all the other nuances of the book(s) that only adults can really appreciate. On the surface, it's a kid's book, but underneath it deals with real issues and to solve the mystery before the end of the book takes some real intuitive thought. Darth Eggplant
the books have stuff that even an adult would enjoy, take for example the dress ball in book 4? harry has faced monsters out of our worst nightmares and yet the thought of taking a girl to a dance frightens him and ron whittless. only someone older would really appreciate that vignette of tween\teen angst. there other stuff as well, the most surprising aspect of the book series and i don't know if it is intentional; is just how incompetant and how much dirty pool goes on in politics. look at barty couch? or bagman? the witch who goes missing the guy wqho was and still is one of voldermort's death eaters. fudge the minister himself. in many ways great reading and interesting drama, but very honest and informative for young readers to see and learn that respect and authority are not simply a matter of age and birth right but like good grades in school, have to be worked on. and the book deals with race issues and rights such as the HELF house elf liberation front and giantism etc. the funniest thing to show up on screen and it is hillarious but also embarrassing is for the actor who plays ron weasley. his voice was going through its change due to puberty and that moment of awkwardness has been frozen in time for a long time to come on DVD. Honestly, if you liked the movies you'll love the books, because the books are so much more than the movies are. And the re-readability is simply amazing too - you can finish the first 4 books and then start directly at the first book again. What's so amazing with the HP books is that, alongside with having a great and deep story and are well-written, they are pretty humorous, so it will never be boring to read them. Eldritch
And like Eggplant was trying to say, the books can be enjoyed on multiple levels. Breton raises a good point too with the re-readability: I don't think it's possible to catch everything the book(s) get across in only one reading. Sivy
i've liked harry potter since i went on holiday last year. it rained the whole time and i didn't take any books with me. the hotel had a small selection which mainly consisted of joan collins and other trashy romance novels. but they did have harry potter: ATPS, so i read it and really liked it. since then i've read the other 3 books and i'm looking forward to HP 5. IMO each one is better than the last, so this one should be really great.

Eldritch
You think so? I think JK has the potential to pump those books out as fast as she did before. Think about it: HP & the Philosopher's Stone came out in 1997. HP & the Chamber of Secrets came out in 1998. HP & the Prisoner of Azkaban came out in 1999. HP & the Goblet of Fire came out in 2000. That's a book a year for 4 years. I don't think it will be as long of a wait for books 6 and 7.
Antilles_CL
When i first heard of the seres, the first 3 were out so it didn't matter much to me on the year difference. I love the books though.
