Solo4114
Well, I posted a thread on here a little while back about whether SW:G would draw RPers away from JA. Personally, I think it will and it definitely SHOULD. I bought the game about two weeks ago and I LOVE it. Even with the various problems (and there are problems), it's still a blast to play. All the stuff you want to do in JO with the RP mods? You can do it and then some. Artisanry, emotes, buying different weapons, etc., etc. Only thing you can't do yet is be a Jedi, but hey, the rest of the game is still TONS of fun. So, I HIGHLY recommend this game to anyone looking for an RP fix. No need to clutter up the JA servers with RP action when you've got SW:G to play instead. taekwondo joe
first off, dont post this opinion on a game that is not on topic! this is ja diskussion, not swg, take this thread osmewere else. i myself would not want to play it becuase of the rediculus monthly fee, so i am sticking with ja when it comes, i will be a happy camper with my game and little action figure, dont need swg
Smood
Umm, Solo.... The thing is. When I play a STAR WARS game, I ACTUALLY WANT TO FIGHT. I don't want to press icons, and then watch myself fight. I want realtime control. On that front, SWG doesn't deliver. JA + MODS = yes SWG + no fighting = no

So it is not entirely off-topic...
Neverhoodian
I have to agree with taekwondo joe. I was intrigued with MMORPG's when they first came out, but the monthly fee was a BIG turn-off. I mean c'mon, you already shell out about $30 to $50 for the game, yet you have to pay about $15 to $20 MORE per month?! Even if you don't play the game for a month? That, and the simple fact that I've never been a very good/avid RPG gamer. (The most engrossing RPG game I have ever bothered to finish was Super Mario RPG. There was also Paper Mario, but it's not really a true RPG. It's fun, though. And, believe it or not, I have hardly played any of the FF games, just about 20 combined minutes of FFX and FFIII) Like taekwondo joe, I'll be perfectly satisfied when JA comes out. This is just me, but I feel more in control when I'm controlling a character in real time combat. It's extremely satisfying to perform a wall kick, land on a Reborn's head, kill him with a knockout blow from the strong saber stance, and have the camera slowly pan around my character and his humming lightsaber. The most satisfying part of it is that all that happened from my skill, timing and coordination, I didn't just hit the "attack" button and watched as the player performed a single move that may/may not be a critical hit. But hey, if you like SWG and RPG's, that's great. We all have different tastes.
txa1265
I'm glad you like it Solo4114! I know some people where I work (mainly younger, single guys) who are spending a fair amount of time with it and having a blast. Personally I'm waiting for KOTOR on the PC for my RPG fix ... have never played a PC RPG, and only did a little D&D back ... well, pretty far back But KOTOR looks quite cool ... I don't see a problem with this here - did you also put it in the Valley? There's more stuff about this there? Anyway it's a refereshing break from all the beta piracy-talk. lonepadawan
Oh really? From what I have heard it's very good. Gamespy daily have been going on and on about how they love the game. If your post was filled with correct capitilisation and a decent argument then I might take you seriously. But I have not seen one negative review yet. The only thing any reviewer has criticised is the bugs, which generally come with any new RPG.
boinga1
Actually, RPGers who like to fight would probably like Knights of the Old Republic better...except it doesn't come out for PC until October/November. Anyhow, I have no problem with the RPGers as long as their servers are labelled "RPG server" and as long as they don't come on the fighting servers and try to force "RPG-ing" on FPS players. That applies to KOTOR to. You don't actually fight. You click icons and watch the fight happen. NP with that if you dont mind NOT fighting. But I myself which to actually fight. boinga1
Well, I meant KOTOR was for fighting in the sense that the objective of the game was to reach the boss and fight him. There is no peaceful way to play the game. However, it should be easy to play SW:G all the time and never fight (for people unlike myself). SW:G is more like "My STAR WARS Life"-not so much geared towards fighting as towards creating a galaxy for SW freaks to "live in." But yes, you are correct that you don't actively control every move the player makes (although this allows for some really very cinematic battles in KOTOR). Obi-Wan X
I actually LOVED KOTORS battle system! I beat the game in four days due to extremely avid play, but the game was amazing. I know I didnt have complete control over battle...but I could dodge when I wanted to ( without a dodge button, just like fps), the battles were extremely cinematic, I could aim, throw a grenade, etc. All of this felt extremely like JO to be honest, but actually, it felt better....better in a sense. The battles never really got old, the lightsaber fights were amazing, I had an amazing sense of control over battles...etc. Of course this wasn't as good as JO, but it felt way more movie like imo. Tesla
Nope no SWG for me, not unless they remove the monthly fee and plus i just bought Neverwinter Nights which rules i reccommend to any RPG fan or anyone who wants a good game and SWG just has a online game which makes it suck even more, NWN is the RPG i'll be playing through sorry LA but Galaxies just doesn't fit the bill Any with the 2 x-packs (only 1 released so far) for NWN and a sequel planned who needs SWG ?? Luc Solar
Hmmm... I thought this was quite ON-topic. I think the "hidden" message was: Keep your retarded RPG-butts out of JA, a First Person Shooter, so that you won't ruin everything for the rest of us AGAIN. Go play Galaxies, that's an RPG which JA is not. Leave JA alone. Take your codes of honour to Galaxies and never come back.
Antilles_CL
Galaxies is not the game for me...Why pay a monthly fee? What a waste.
Luc Solar
Same goes for me. No way I'm going to pay a monthly fee except if it's 3$ or something insignificant. Otherwise it's like buying a car and renting it too. I don't understand why you should pay for a game that you can't play without having to pay again. And again. And again. EDIT: Almost forgot to mention all the $ that I pay every month for my broadband.
txa1265
For many, many people, it is money well spent (I'm not one of them, but some young guys at work - in their 20's - spend lots of time and are really into it. So let's not debate the general merits of Galaxies. The question is - can something else other than JO FFA satisfy the RP'ers? Perhaps it is SWG, perhaps KOTOR, but then ... maybe they also want to fight directly ... in which case we'll see no difference Mike
