Have you ever built a laser from scratch...or at least as close to it as 'from scratch' can get? I mean, don't much imagine one could actually make a Nd:YAG or Cr:Ruby laser rod and optics in their bedroom workshop...well not without serious equipment anyway. A forge at least.

I basically understand the laser principle. Which is quite funny considering I've never taken a physics class, nor an optics class. Most of what I learned was at Sam's laser FAQ or SciAm articles on homebuilt lasers.etc.

[clarification]: err... I meant 'strong' in regards to application... not wavelength. Been a couple years since I've had any meaningful fun discussion on lasers, time I brushed up a bit.

I would say...most people are lost from it, honestly. An age of universal apathy and laziness. It does bother me.

True there is that which we have no control over, however, that is a very small portion of our lives. I am learning attitude and perspective has more influence upon this than I ever imagined possible.

Friends and I have our "guild" where we go out in the woods and set up. Unarmed or weapons.

I have putted around with Kendo and large melee armaments. Informally on and off. Kendo is principally much the same as other sword arts--application is different. Furthermore it is so philosophical and it requires a certain mindset. Euro sword arts are what you make of them and what you bring to them. I mean no discredit whatsoever to either one. Kendo is more formally established like a school or way of life. Euro is its own discipline and not so formal. I don't get into which one is better--a martial art is not best judged based on how good it is against another, it is best judged on whether it is effective (and HOW effective) it is for the purpose for which it was developed/intended. ...continues.

Got a provisional when most others in my grade already had licenses and cars. I took until I was almost 18. I was a month and a half shy of 18 when I got my license. So 17 and a half for permit.
