Hail, Comrade! We must muster our strength and save the Rodina! *secretly puts down Tom Clancy books*
>.>

That's rather pathetic and wimpy: "We got hurt, so let's hurt them worse."
MacNamara was the SecDef under Kennedy, correct?
-
Now, we only need a time machine! We shall change the very nature of time itself, Sabre!

I'm kind of indifferent about Caesar: at first, he was the champion of the people (assuming that I've recalled correctly), conquering Egypt, Gaul, and, I believe, land in Turkey. However, towards his later time, he raised taxes (to this day, no one likes higher taxes
). Eventually, a few Senators thought he had too much power. The rest is history. *shrugs*
BEE YOU WUB KIDS DONT DENY IT IT WILL ONLY BE YOUR DOOM IF YOU DO KIDS ARE KIND OF CUTE BUT THEN THEY EAT THEIR BOOGERS. :\
Puppy pics! If I find some, I'll try and get you some pictures of my Beast (family nickname for our German Shepard).

I would if I could, but, alas, I cannot! Instead, we must change standard time.
TO GREENWICH WE MUST RIDE, SABRE!

Well, didn't MAD prevent us from destroying the entire world multiple times? No one wants to fire warheads unless they'll be around to enjoy the view at the end.
-
...which, quite possibly, would have started World War III. 'Protection' never seems to be a good thing.
-
I do remember that Russia had their first bomb successfully tested in 1948. It seemed that the Cold War would be determined by alliances and political stability (it seems that America's transitions for President were much more peaceful than ones in Russia).
-
We were that desperately in need of allies? I was under the impression that the US was in a decent position, allies-wise, after World War II (mainly due to the fact that the US was the only one with the A-bomb).

What astounds me is that, with all of these taxes, the government has managed to get itself into trillions of dollars into debt. It's rather sad that we're that bad with money.
Political suicide isn't a worthy goal according to the politicians, mach. The Democrats would have been done and over with, as you've stated, if it was 'proved' that FDR let Pearl Harbor happened. Did not Machiavelli state that one should use any means possible to attain/retain power?
Perhaps we rebuilt Japan and Germany for 'colonies?' Not living at the time, I can only speculate, but I would assume that the US Government believed that they would benefits out of their actions- that's the only reason they do anything, really.
Now, I really need to push out this chapter for my story. If I don't, I'll go semi-insane.

And I must do the same on your page, BumbleBee!
That I did. However, it just didn't fit. I planned on using a picture of Caesar (yes, that's who it is) after I reached my 1,000th post, and having my custom title as Caesar's motto, which, if I recall correctly, was "Veni, Vidi, Vici (I came, I saw, I conquered)."
Bee sends cute picx! *drools from anticipation*
Thanks, Bee. Not doing anything tonight, except getting annoyed by little kids begging for candy (knowing you, you'd wub thow wittle kiddies XD).

Wow. That's some serious knowledge accumulation. I've got Executive Orders sitting on my bookshelf, and I intend to read it during the winter break. I've started the beginning, and I already immensely enjoy Clancy's writing style. As for the tax, they spun it off as an emergency one, and continued it? Right now, the Government (both state and Federal) takes nearly 30% of my parent's income- a fact that I'm revolted by.
I remember reading about turning Germany into an agrarian nation (and it makes sense how that plan never did gain much momentum). Today, however, it has one of the highest GDPs in the world, if I'm correct. It seems we gave no relief to conquered nations (save for rebuilding infrastructure and government the way we saw fit).
Pertaining to World War II and Roosevelt, I do recall reading that the intelligence agencies (I don't remember if the CIA was around then, or what was in its place) keep data from the morning of December 7th, 1941 classified. It seems as though, in keeping with what you said, that Roosevelt did his best to get us into the war, no matter the cost.
Thanks for all of the info, mach. It's been very interesting and informative.

So, income taxes come from FDR (aside from war times)? That's a very interesting idea (more importantly, the history books paint a much different picture [i.e., 'he's a hero for getting us out of the depression']). I suppose this raises the idea of a flat tax, and whether it's a better solution or not?
Handing German industry to the Russians? Is that to say that, in America-occupied zones of Germany industry was dismantled, whereas the Russian zone kept its industry? It seems that, from what I've learned from your posts (especially in the Resource Center), the Allies were much less... flexible during World War II (their laws seemed much more bureaucratic, and their post-War handling seems shabby, from what you've said).
America has had its fair share of racial moments: slavery being the most eminent, but the Japanese interment during WWII, and, from what you've said, simply letting these people die.
Wasn't Teddy part of the 'Imperialism Era' in America, or do I have my facts wrong?

Our army is all volunteers, if I remember correctly. As for service, I find myself being sickened when I see a political add come on: from State Senate to the United States Senate, and from the Governor's race to the House of Representatives. Even in the Presidential ads, all I see is, to simplify, "The other guys is un-American/sucks (reasons inserted randomly), and I'm pro-American (reasons always inserted here). Vote for me, and not for the other guy."
I find it incredibly sad that we've reverted to smear tactics in order to help run the country (however, I'd argue that over half of Washington [thinking optimistically] is in it for the power).
Bread and Circuses seems to be welfare and television of today. The Federal Government is mandating that everyone switch over to High-Definition by February 19th. Welfare, though not an ample amount of money, still exists for those in need.
How might taxing the middle class keep the poor working? If anything, I was under the impression that FDR helped pull us out of the Depression by creating federal programs, which hired workers, etc. From what you're saying, I assume that FDR had other plans at work?
-
Well, that would account for your explicit knowledge on all things military. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Romans were consumed by invasions and political instability? Is it not the fate of empires to fall, and the fate of these doomed nations' leaders to attempt to stall their eventual demise?
-
That's a very valid point. I've come to believe that it's much easier for someone to think for you (i.e., your friends' opinions, parents', and any other form of influence) than for you to think for yourself.
Having studied Chinese for about a year or so, it was a rather funny moment when I was taught that the Chinese word for "America" has a radical (rather like a stem in English) that means "sheep" in it. I found it rather fitting, but that could be said for most people.

6,000 posts! Now, make 10,000 before the new year, or you shall pay!
How goes the life of everyone's favorite Sir Sabre?
