David Blaine - Insane?

Just thought you Americans would enjoy a brief update on your magic-man's situation. You see, in England, we react quite differently to his stunts...

1 - Blaine panicked as a laser-beam (like those mounted on sniper rifles) darted into his clear box. He thought a sniper had taken up aim from the top of Tower Bridge, but when police searched the structure, nothing was found.

2 - Paintballs, food, bricks and fireworks have all been propelled upwards at David Blaine. Many missed, but several fireworks struck the cabin two nights ago. Police are quite worried about the safety of the box.

3 - A major operation was mounted last week. Two teenage boys distracted the guards who patrolled the crane holding Blaine in the sky. Meanwhile, their friends climbed the crane's giant arm and tried to use wire-cutters to break the cable suspending the box above the Thames. They failed.

4 - Many of Blaine's friends commented on how little weight David has actually lost. This has lead to multiple accusations of somehow feeding the magician through the 'plain' water he is drinking.

5 - David Blaine is being made to pay up £100,000 to the British Police Force, in order to cover the cost of policing the event. The British taxpayer is happy, but many of Blaine's friends and agents are not. The government is refusing to dispatch extra police to guard the area.

You see, if David Blaine performed his Vertigo trick in England, we would have already shook the pole and made him fall off. Rest assured, many more attempts to disrupt the magicians progress will, and already have, been made. Just thought some of the Americans in here would like to know.

What do you mean "you guys"

It's not like every british person is down there trying to annoy the guy. Sure most kids are as****es, but that's because.... Actually I don't know why but you get the jist of it.

Anyhoo, I hope there is a filter on my language because I can't be b****red to edit my post.

I still think he will be more sane when he leaves the box than when he went in.

-edit

Damn, no filter. *sigh*

Geez guys lay off the kill him crud. He is just a guy doing his job. Im sure alot of you probably wouldnt be up for the challenge. See our human nature is to challenge. We are alwyas trying to find things to do, and be the first or best at. Its the thing that thrives and inspires us to do stuff that we have never done, like bungee jumping or skydiving.

Mostly I dont like the fact that everyone here is saying he should die. Now, tell me hoe sick and disgusting that is. It seems the thing he is doing is less disturbing than to hear you guys continuosly say, "who cares if he dies, hes an idiot." Im sure all of your have been idiots at sometime.

Im not trying to be mean, i just think you guys should think twice about what you say, even if its supposed to be funny. Saying you wish people would die in any instance. Its pretty lame and immature.

*silence*

Thats better.

You know, a transvestite named Divine once ate feces. I would not dare consider doing that, yet I would willingly talk crap about s/he, specifically for that (and his/her lack of acting ability :p).

Doing things that other people wouldn't isn't all that impressive--if he were somehow doing it for a good cause, trying to raise money or social awareness about an issue, that would be impressive. Unfortunately, as far as I know, he's just an attention seeking git.

I don't think he deserves to be killed or maimed by rowdy drunks, but neither do I think he deserves respect just because he wants to hurt himself. It seems like he has deep seated mental issues, though I don't care to venture a guess as to what they stem from.

oh so the Americans are the insane ones??? Think again...look at Syd Barrett.

awh man cmon! even if im American, I hold the upmost respect to Syd Barrett! I LOVE Pink Floyd, both in the Barrett days and the Pre-Barrett/Roger Waters days. Don't be comparing Barrett who was a great songwriter to a magician!:p

anyway, yeah guys stop giving David Blane all this mean stuff. He's just a magician who likes to perform magic tricks (his idol is Harry Houdini). Give the guy a break, I think it's pretty awsome that he would actually take months of his life to just live in a box without any human contact...

You go Blane!:D

I think it's safe to say that the British are also insane, probably more *cough*montypython*cough*

I still think Blaine is a bit weird. Anyone see his interview on GMTV? When he sat there looking spaced out and didn't say anything. Except for show the eye on his hand and say it was protection from death.

I don't really admire him for doing this stunt. I mean... who want's to see a guy sit on his ass for 44 days? Oh yeah... reality tv. Guess he's just doing it on a smaller scale.

All his stunts sound boring to me. I was stuck in the freezer for a week, I didn't get any recognition.

Just for the record, I am not condoning anything attempted against the success of David Blaine and his rather interesting little stunt.

However, the man is simply an attention-seeking psychopathic moron. Why, for the love of God, seal yourself in a box, suspend yourself over the River Thames and sit there for fourty-four days? Is there any point? If there is, I cannot see one.

I am not someone who wishes David to die. I am not someone who would take action to disrupt his little 'performance' in London. Fortunately, there are hundreds more who would.

And all you Americans calling the British public insane - have you really met every single member of the British public? I didn't think so. Do not pass judgement on a people who are probably much more civilised than you. God Save The Queen.

Yeah, unless they are Welsh.

We're a strange bunch.

I think this stunt is stupid. I don't give a crap if he does it or not. If he was doing it to raise money for charity, then I'd think differently, but he's not. And yes Lost, I saw that interview and the guys a nut.

However, I certainly don't wish him any harm, and the people trying to jeaopordise his stunt are idiots.

As for all this talk about Americans are insane, British are insane, blah blah blah, well shut up and stop talking out your ass. Stop judging the whole country on the actions of certain individuals.

Meh, I don't see the point in it, why do it in Britian where no-one wants to see the sight of him (well probably osmeoen does), might have osmething to do with a £1,000,000 deal with sky

His "In an ice cube" and "Let's stand on a pole for a long time and jump on boxes" stunts didn't impress me at all, The guy is standing on a pole, I can watch repeats of survivor if I want to see that.

Nutta :p

leXX, have you been along and actually seen him?

I was passing the other day when there were television crews there, doing some kind of news report. He looks so depressed, and quite frankly I'm glad. Either he will remember the experiance as boring and never do anything quite so stupid ever again, or he will try to increace his incarceration time and die.

Enough on the insane British/insane Americans argument. Each person is different, it's why we have a certain word in the dictionary - 'individual'.
