Sivy Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 rumours are rife that the hobbit could become a tv mini-series once peter jackson has finished LOTR. its possible that it will be directed by Ian Mckellan and produced by peter jackon... Ian McKellan: "I want to play Gandalf again, in The Hobbit... I've asked Peter Jackson if he'll produce the prequel as a huge, yearlong television series. All those different strands to the story seem perfect for TV, and we'd do every scene of it. It could be marvelous" the only stumbling block is it, apparently, the rights are split between New Line and Warner Bros so if it is going to happen these two are going to have come up with some sort of agreement. what do you think about a hobbit mini-series? good idea or not?
BongoBob Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 I think it sounds like a good idea, but then again, I am a big nerd, so there ya go. My opinion. Treasure it.
vegietto Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 i think it would be a great idea, i like to read LOTR, and a hobbit mini-series would be a great idea
Surfnshannon Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 I personally wouldn't like it - but I know for sure there would be a heavy fan base for it and that would be a money making machine.
StormHammer Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 If it had similar production values to the movies - i.e., the effects didn't suck - then it could indeed be a worthwhile enterprise. It obviously helps that one of the key players in the movies is backing (in fact originated) the idea. AFAIK, the 'sets' for the Shire are still intact, and can be re-used easily enough. I think the idea has a lot of merit, and I'd certainly be interested in watching the tale of the Hobbit unfold before my eyes. Considering the amount of dross TV we have to put up with...it would make a change to see a decent fantasy story told in a meaningful way on TV.
obi Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 YES! The hobbit would be awesome as a movie or series!

Pedro The Hutt Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 Agreed, and like it's said, some of the actors don't need to be chosen anymore, we've got our Gandalf, we got our Elrond, the son of the king of Mirkwood could make a cameo appearance for the fangirls. And perhaps John Rhys-Davies could play Gloin ^.^ (if they get another actor he'd have to talk like him though XD)
TiE23 Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 But they would have to hire real migets to act as hobbits, no tall people looking like short people crap! TiE
XERXES Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 well it would be for younger people I hope, as the book The Hobbit was intended.
Sivy Posted October 22, 2003 Author Posted October 22, 2003 hopefully they'll cut out all the singing
Pedro The Hutt Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 I actually know quite a few people that were disappointed that the songs were cut out of LotR ^.^ (I'm more bothered about the absense of Tom Bombadil personally XD)
BigTeddyPaul Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 If it is like a band of brithers type thing then sure. If it is some crap they spend 5 million on then no way. BigTeddyPaul
BawBag™ Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 Maybe to spice things up they should make Hugo Weaving play Smith instead of Elrond............
toms Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 i like the idea if it was done right. Although, considering it is much shorter than any of the LOTR books it seems an odd choice to make into a mini series. It would have been more sensible to make it into a film and make the LOTR books into a band of brothers type serial. The climax will be interesting, since all the battles happen when the main character is knocked out. Very boring last episode... 45 mins of black screen. blink. "oh, hi bilbo, you missed this cool battle with these five armies!!" credits roll....
BigTeddyPaul Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 He was not knocked out. He claimed he recieved a bump on the head which knocked him out but it was a lie because he didn't want to fight especially in the beginning. BigTeddyPaul
The Cheat Posted October 26, 2003 Posted October 26, 2003 i think it would be cool if they did it right which i think it would be done right if it was done by jackson
Jared Posted October 26, 2003 Posted October 26, 2003 I suppose.....but I think this is a stupid idea. They are going to try to milk more money out, and its gonna **** up the whole LOTR concept.
cekaikay Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 No, no, no!!!! I will be extremely pissed off if they rip off the books by making a stupid miniseries. I think that the movies are enough and making a miniseries about hobbits will just screw up how Tolkien wanted his world to be seen.
t3rr0r Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 tv series = good mini-series = better movie = best

Another thing that would be cool would be a mini-series of the Silmarillion, they could do it like The Storyteller and have a different story from it each week. Cost a fortune in SFX though... All these ideas are only as good as the people doing them though.
