What's the best "old" PC game?

In your opinion, what's the best of the good old games from before the 3D-games started to flourish?

I remember Prince of Persia as one of the best games ever. The animations were a real breakthrough in gaming at the time. Also, I really enjoyed the Commander Keen series from Id Software. More suggestions?

My first addiiction on a 'pc game' was Castle Wolfenstein (*NOT* Wolf 3D) on an Apple ][ back in the ... early 80's (which is before someone of average age on this board was born ;):( )

I played it last year via some AppleWin emulator ... still brings a smile ...

Bard's Tale was by far the best RPG ever on Apple. I still miss those green screens and the animation where they moved their eyes and we thought it was cool. I used to name all my characters after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Prince of Persia was cool but I never came close to beating it.

I hated Commander Keen.

Was that a Flight Sim? If it was, than I remember it ;)

My first one was probably Wolfenstein 3D.

I played soo many games in the early stage (on our commodore) i even havent the slightest idea which one was the best. Prolly because my age wasnt that high aswell.

Old games I really liked playing were "who dares wins", "prince of persia" and "dungeon keeper". I still like Dk when im studying for my exams and want 5min of complete timewaste. :D

I would have to say, my love of gaming all came from one game. Rogue Squadron. Now I have xbox and GC and I used to have PS2. If I had never got RS, I would never have been at these forums, much less been even interested in video games.

*a moment of silence for rogue squadron*

Speaking of non-graphical ... my first multi-player experience was playing a Star Trek game head-to-head against a friend on a IBM 3630 mainframe ... wasted much time and computer account allocation time doing that ...

Doesn't that sort of miss both the 'old' and 'PC' parts of the topic?

;)

(Not that I really care ... it is interesting to see what some consider 'old' games ... I tend to think that old, in the context of these forums, certainly has to pre-date Dark Forces.)
