Games that should be made into movies...

I am currently playing Thief 2 and I couldn't help but think that the character of garrett and the setting would make for an awesome movie.

I don't know who did the voice acting for Garrett, but he is great. Garrett comes across as a amoral thief who is forced into helping out at crucial times, and is never happy about it.

The semi-medievil, semi-technological, semi-religious society with its shadowy politics, cults, weird inventions and dark shadows would also be a great setting for a film.

I know that hollywood would probebly mess it up, make garrett all goody goody and have him played by freddie prinze jr. or something. As well as adding lots of CGI explosions and bullet time fights. But if it was done well it seems to me it would be great.

Every game->movie conversion so far has sucked totally (except the 1st mortal kombat), but they always seem to pick the most hyped current game (mk, street fighter, doom, resident evil) even if it has no world or story to make a decent film. this seems the wrong approach, as the game is usually past it's popularity by the time the film comes out anyway. Instead they should pick games with caracters, stories and worlds that would make for a good film.

Anyone else think of any good games that should be made into films?

I know ... they should base one on Jedi Academy. But instead of starting on Yavin, start on that Hoth level, before it got destroyed. Oh, and you don't do as well against the wampa. Instead of Kyle talking by comlink, make him come as a vision ... and make him older and give him a pseudo-ninja name. Make him tell you silly things and send you off as a joke to explore dangerous swamps looking for a little rubber guy named Kermit, who will teach you about serial file protocol. Oh wait ... never mind ...

Seriously, I think most FPS's are so thin on real plot they would make crappy games, most RPG's would movie-out as a LOTR clone, and most fight/action movies would end up awful. Then there are GBA games made into movies - like Ecks vs. Sever. I never saw the movie, but still haven't played it again since ...

Some thoughts ...

- The idea for Thief is very good - I can't wait for Thief 3.

- The original Dark Force / Jedi Knight, as done in the books, could be really cool as well.

- The one that intrigues me the most is Deus Ex. I think the RPG/FPS genre is rich for movie possibilities. When I saw the opening trailer for DX2, I thought "I'd love to watch that movie", then with the follow-up gameplay movie this week, I thought "f*ck that - I'm going to be that movie!"

well txa, you're not far off, Iv'e heard csating is being done for a Deus Ex movie, containing plot points from both DX1 and DX2, but its just a widely recognized rumor :(.

and yes, I think Deus ex's plot line and characters would make a great movie ;). Also we've never seem a futuristic gladiator game like Unreal Tournament, or Quake 3 become a movie...just think people dying but then coming back, while being done mostly by CGI  ....mmmmm....also one of the Tom Clancy games like Rouge spear would make a pretty good dramma/action movie. Thats pretty much all i can think of for now,

I would like to see Tim Burton do a flic based on VTM:Redemption, I know it won't ever happen but I can dream.

Starring Max Schreck, Bela Lugosi, Lucy Lui, Marilyn Monroe, David Bowie, the 27 club, and Gary Oldman, (being a Tim Burton flic, Johnny Depp would prob be casted as well).

Might as well throw in David Lynch and Coppola as co-producers/directors.

:D

I'd like Half-life to become a movie. I mean, it was made to become a movie. Marc Laidlaw(script writer for Half-life) should also be put in charge of the next science fiction horror movie. Period.

Oh, and Final Fantasy VII would be a good movie, too. Of course, Square(Or Square-Enix as I should say..>_<) is already making a CGI movie for it.

(And dont mention how big Tifa's chests are, either)

I just hope they don't make that terrible game 'Enter the Matrix' into a movie ... the out of proportion action would be fun to watch, but with the thin plot and stilted, pseudo-philosophical egalitarian overly dramatic dialogue - it would be a train wreck ...

the first warcraft has potential in my opinion. but it would have to be changed somewhat to either follow lord lothar or orgrim doomhammer.

and i dont think it should be made any time soon beause frankly i dont believe special effects technology is good enough at present to perform on the level i want.

also, the failed warcraft rpg could be done. (if you dont know it was a completed game that blizzard didnt release for fear of association with it). following the life of the warchief thrall. its thick on story (though the book wasnt all that well written) and it would be easy to add enough action just through the liberation of the camps and the tournaments he was forced into gladiator style.

Clive Barker's Undying should be made into a movie. Scariest game I've ever played.

Isn't there talk about American McGee's Alice being made into a movie? That would be cool to see on the big screen.

Yes...Carbon 6 is the development house McGee set up, and from what I've read, one of the ideas behind it was to get movie tie-ins. So there is definitely going to be a film based on Alice, and I believe there will also be one based on Carbon 6's current game in development, which is based on a darker version of Oz.

And Undying would probably make a good horror movie, if done right.

As for Halo...I thought that was also already being considered for movie development.

I know that Dungeon Siege, another Micro$oft title, is going to see the movie treatment as well, with a budget of $50 million.

Alone In The Dark is also in development, with Christian Slater in the role of Edward Carnby.

Deus Ex, as suggested, is rumoured to have the movie treatment soon.

I don't know what ever happened to the project to bring Doom to the screen. Last I heard they were talking PG-13 ratings, and since then, nothing...

I tend to agree that Half-Life would make a good transition to a movie format, because the plot was basically an old movie cliché to begin with.

And Thief...I too think it would make a very interesting movie, if executed properly. The 'world' in which it is set, is certainly interesting, and the central character quite well-developed.

I wouldn't hold my breath for any films based on Star Wars games.

Personally, I would also like to see No One Lives Forever brought to the big screen. Again...the characters in the game are well-developed, and with the right mix of action and campy humour (not as campy as Austin Powers, in my view), it could make an enjoyable film.

Outcast too (not Jedi Outcast) could be good film material. One thing's certain, the cinematic music score is already there...

Correct...

replace w/ Uma Thurman.

"Bela Lugosi's Dead...............the bats have left the belltower"

Schreck is alive just rumored to be dead, he starred in Nosferatu I believe the year was 1911 and it was a silent German flic.

Schreck was portrayed by William Defoe in "Shadow of the Vampire"

BOMBERMAN!... wait...

PACMAN!.... no.

how about....

SPLINTER CELL!

I could also see a StarCraft movie working.

If they did a final fantasy movie that's live action they would definitely need some top quality japanese ladies... OH! SILENT HILL, I'd like to see that done.

hmmmm...Well I have Dungeon seige and it was cool and all but the way the characters interacted made the story not all to good if you ask me. The story was cool, but they would need some top notch actors to pull of that complex dialog, oh and a well respected director. But what I want to know is why no one would want to see a gladiator type game with guns like UT and Q3???   just puplexing...I think it would be cool

*runs off crying, looks at what RP wrote, then runs to fileplanet to DL AvsP trailer*
