Good but overplayed songs?

Oh boy... does Radio and TV screw up songs today... I think they play any single over and over again and again just to mess with us... THEY HAVE OTHER SONGS PEOPLE!!!!!!! Prime examples: Outkast-Hey ya and I like the way you move... I've heard the latter 2 times in the past 10 minutes. By far the worst is No doubt and Evanescense...

So? What's a good song thats been overplayed by your radio station/MTV/FUSE TV.

I could probably come up with a big list, but just to mention a few:

  • Outkast - Hey Ya
  • Outkast - The Way You Move
  • Outkast - Miss Jackson
  • Usher feat Lil Jon & Ludacris - Yeah
  • 3 Doors Down - Here Without You
  • Eminem - Loose Yourself
  • Eminem - Sing for the Moment
  • Eminem - Cleanin Out My Closet
  • Eminem - Without Me
  • Obie Trice - Got Some Teeth
  • G-Unit - Stunt 101
  • Black Eyed Peas - Where's the Love
  • Black Eyed Peas - Shut Up

Thats just a few... The list goes on and on... :(.

i dont listen to much radio, but everytime they turned it on it seemed they were playing "headstrong". i like the song, but too much is too much. i went to wal-mart and they had the music video on a loop it seemed? anyway, most music stations dont play the music i like anyway. like AC-DC, nirvana, metallica, guns and roses. but thats why i just listen to CD's:D (a very good invention and wise investment).

Nickelback - How You Remind Me.

It's a cracking song, and it's executed brilliantly. But Radio 1 is still playing it on a semi-regular basis. Just let it pass into the annals of history, then remind us of how good it is ;)

I've spent the last two years loving and hating the song in equal, alternate measures.

NB: This post is not intended to precipitate the slew of anti-Nickelback ranting that will doubtlessly follow. So like, don't. Even though you probably will.

I know, but in my opinion any song that is overplayed sucks. It means it has gone "commercial" and I don't like that kind of music. So I decided to add to the topic in my own little way. :D;)

Mine is, or rather, was:

Outkast - Hey Ya, I Like The Way You Move, Hey Mamma

Black-eyed Peas - Where is the Love, Shut Up

No Doubt - It's my life(TERRIBLE SONG! ARGH!)

Westlife - Mandy(nice at first, but got sick of it eventually)

Evanescence - Going Under, My Immortal

Right now, they play any songs in moderation, which is good for me. :) I somehow got sick of the songs above...

Good point.

Going commercial is what destroys the music in the first place.

I don't listen to radio: problem solved :D

Although, I must admit that Metallica's Enter Sandman is overplayed - some people don't seem to realise that they have written other songs. Having said that, the atmosphere when I last saw Metallica and they played Sandman was possibly the greatest few minutes of my life. When nearly 30,000 people are all singing the song so well that it's almost drowning out the band, it's f**king electric :)

Good but overplayed songs is a sentence full of words that when put together make no sense. A whole sentence of grand oxymoronic proportions. That's why pop music, or dare I say, EVERYTHING that's on the radio is crap. It's played too much. But it's usually crap right out of the gate.

When I think of this, what comes to mind is an artist whose music you like or have liked, but suddenly they become so popular on the basis of a single song that you not only lose the ability to listen to that song, but question liking that artist. I also think it is beyond radio - if you are in a store or mall, or anywhere music is publicly played you'll hear it - maybe even on TV as well.

The one that comes to mind for me is Bobby McFerrin and 'Don't Worry, Be Happy'. Many know I'm a big jazz and avante-garde fan, and I had been into Bobby for years - he is a tremendous singer, and had adopted a one-man-band style that was thrilling and virtrousic and fun all at once.

Then in 1988 he had a new CD, more commercially directed, and that song hit BIG. It was everywhere, and became associated with just about everything. If you watch VH1's 'I love the 80's' it is all over there. He shows up as a 'one hit wonder' because of it, and I suppose it is that one CD and that song that are the anomoly, as he's done tremendous work since with Chick Corea, Yo Yo Ma, solo and as conductor of the San Francisco Symphony.

So that's mine ... I love his work still, and own much of it, but that CD gets precious little play. Despite not beign into the radio even then, that song was played enough 16 years ago that I *still* am full-up with it ...
