edlib
Grim Fandango. I just finished it again last night... damn that game is amazing!!! But outside of the Lucasarts-fan community, nobody has seemed to have heard of it.

Thief was a game that I got for my birthday right after it came out that I didn't ask for nor know about nor think I wanted ... but I'm glad I got it. This thread makes me think that just because something is a 'classic' or an 'institution' or wins 'GOTY' doesn't mean it sells or is remembered a year later. Thief is like that. Same for Serious Sam, NOLF, Grim Fandango and ... Sam & Max. Maybe that ties into the whole cancellation thing, but I won't go there ... I was reading a preview of Thief 3, and I'm cautiously optimistic. I like what I see so far, but got majorly burned with DX:IW, and they keep saying things like "You can't make a game by and for MIT grads. You have to make the game accessible" that make me nervous - didn't they make many changes to DX:IW tomake it 'accessible'? Hope springs eternal ... ExcelsioN
I'm gonna have to say Grim Fandangp too. That was one helluva game. Originally posted by ckcsaber Thief 1 and 2 were great games that were never really popular. I seem to remember them being popular over here. Thief 3 is gonna be great, and I don't care what you say about DX:IW. It was a great game - despite the fact that the retail version was 1.2 (it was only released in March here). For me, as a huge fan of Deus Ex, I had high expectations - high enough to skip the demo and just buy on day of release. I was just not impressed - there are many better FPS/RPG's, many better shooters, many better stories, and few games with so many technical problems that I've seen recently. Personally I found Tron *much* more enjoyable. As I read more and more impressions of Thief III, I am really thinking this will be good. Cool. rccar328
Well...I tried Yoshi's Island, but I didn't really like it. But that's just me...and to me, Alice looked like the twisting of an already twisted story by a twisted author (do some research on Lewis Carrol if you don't know what I'm talking about). I've played 2 or three games by DreamCatcher that are overlooked...you can usually get them for ten bucks at Wal-Mart...The Messenger, The Gatekeeper, and Atlantis(not based on the Disney movie) are the ones that I own. Hermie
Originally posted by Samuel Dravis The Longest Journey. It was overlooked in the US because it's an adventure game (in Europe it did very well). Nope. OFP is awesome because of the realism. I mean, if all your squad is wiped out, you have to return to base.

I mean, once a friend and I managed to make it all the way to the Russian base and steal a chopper We flew it back and decimated the town we were defending, killing all the enemy infantry and tanks - but we didn't know what to do after that. I don't think they expect people to make it that far in the mission...

I'm just glad I didn't overlook them. While I agree with the other two, Tron sold pretty well (I believe), and was pretty highly regarded in the gaming media ... if a bit late. But given the attention heaped on Halo and Call of Duty, this is clearly under-appreciated. Originally posted by Darth Rythe I'd say on PC, The Escape Velocity Trilligy. That said, they make some really great games, and deserve much more attention than they get ... as is true with most small and shareware developers.
