What? Surely not.

I don't really have much interest in the Olympics anymore, but I find it hard to believe that such track and field events have been scrapped for the likes of tennis. :dozey:

I'm looking forward to Iraq's soccer games. I loved the match between them and Costa Rica. Their first goal was such an amazing shot. I am waiting for the women's gymnastics finals too. >_>

Man, the Olympics bumped Conan off for a while....

Anyways, it's official. Well, it's been official for a while. USA Men's basketball is pathetic. They can't play together as a team. I'm not suprised. This isn't the first time in recent years an "all NBA" team has done poorly at the olympics. The NBA is a steaming pile of crap now. It's only hope is foreign players.

I know what'cha mean. Though it troubles me because I don't know how old the ones on the USA team are. I don't like to think about it all that much though :(

------

I enjoy the Olympics emensly. Especially:

Archery, Fencing, Judo, Shooting, Taekwondo and Table Tennis.

*taps nose*

And of course I enjoy the classics like Track and Field.

But I have been enjoying the fencing more this year, because, well I'll make a trhead later, or sometime about why.

i've never really been able to get into the olympics that much.

I admire the ideals of the modern olympics, and it is about the only place you get to see almost every country able to compete on equal terms... and in an amazing array of events.

I'm not much of a fan of watching sports on tv anyway, but i can get quite into one off events such as the world cup, euro 2004, wimbledon or rugby world cup.

I think this is because you can get into following a few favorites and follow the storylines in an event like that.

The olympics on the other hand has SO MANY competitors and events that you will rarely see the same person twice. Its hard to get any consistency, or get behind anyone in particular as it is too bitty. Its like a computer game where every level has a different mechanic and character.... varied, but you can't every really get behind one character or get up to speed with the control method before you have to learn a new one.

I also don't get the new mix between professional and non-professional athletes in these various sports. Ronaldo in the football, but some unknown 15year old in the running? weird.

I think they need to split it up a bit. In the same way they have the winter olympics and summer olympics. Split it into defined weeks of different secions of events.

...sorry Selene, I just gotta ask...can you still do the splits ? :p

*jumps back to top of Kains death list*

:p

Toms, if you take out all the professional athletes from the olympics there'd be many sports barren of quaility competitors.... Also, with regards to the football(soccer for the rest of you fools :p) Cristiano Ronaldo is under 23 years old, so automatically should be eligible for olympic team membership

In todays world there isn't really any way to avoid including proffesional athletes... it just always strikes me as odd that you have an event with some multi-million pound superstars, and another with people who train in their garage...

I'm still waiting for a "story" to emerge to get me hooked though.

I also think it is a shame that it has gotten to the stage these days that whenever I see anyone do a surprise victory i automatically assume they are on drugs of some kind.. maybe i'm just getting cynical...
