TK-8252
I seem to have gotten some spyware in my system. At first I was bombarded with annoying programs, which I managed to uninstall. There were some empty folders created in Program Files which I deleted. But I still am having annoying pop-up (among other things) ads and IE is slow and feels bogged down, and the Status Bar at the bottom keeps going away. I've been running Ad-aware and deleting junk, but it keeps coming back. What do you all recommend?
Nerd_Annhilator
Switch to firefox for the love of god! before its too late! *dramatic chord* Anyway, Ad-aware might help, but spybot Search and destroy would do a better job at that.
Neverhoodian
Dang TK, that sucks. I'm afraid I don't know enough about this sort of thing to help you out technically, but I can offer this tidbit of advice... I recommend that you send a pack of rabid wolverines over to the morons who did that to your computer and beat them to death with a fruitcake. Or perhaps you could introduce them to Mr. Garbage Compactor. (Only joking, kiddies. Neverhoodian does not support violence...most of the time.) ET Warrior
Firefox is what I use, and while I still get the occasional spyware, it's so much better than IE. And I like firefox more anyways (TABBED BROWSING!)
coupes.
I freaking hate Firefox !!! Just get Ad-aware and/or Spybot search and destroy, a decent firewall and anti-virus program... That's what I have and I've never had any problem whatsoever with Internet Explorer.

Kurgan
Tip: Stop using IE. (and never touch AOL!) I use Opera and it has dramatically reduced the problem of pop-ups and other crap from the browser end. As to email spam all I can suggest is filtering software and a good virus scanner. There isn't much else one can do these days.. spam comes and goes in bursts. Three things (or rather four) every internet user needs these days: 1) Virus Scanner 2) Firewall 3) Spyware/Malware detector/remover 4) Registry scanner/repair program Spam filtering & popup blocking is the next thing... Mike Windu
http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/ Go there Download HijackThis and run it. Save a log of it. Copy and Paste the log in a new thread you make and the admins will look at it and tell you what to fix. Problem solved. Oh yeah, get Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spysweeper, and CWShredder. Lady Jedi
Try doing a virus scan. I use McAffee about once a week. Delete any infected files. Also remember to delete your temporary internet files frequently. I do just about every day, cause I was having a BIG problem with spyware a bit ago. Adaware and Spybot S&D helped a lot too.
