Tyrion
I'm not talking about getting music off p2p sites, but I'm talking about the format you like your music in, i.e. .mp3, .ogg, .wav, ect. Personally, I like .mp3 mostly out of habit, even though it's supposed to be lossy in quality. Though when I compare a 256kbps or 320kbps mp3 to a cd-quality song, I never can hear a difference... So, what about you guys?
coupes.
I prefer mp3s. I usually encode in mp3 with variable bitrate (150-240 Kbps), it makes relatively small files with very good sound quality, I can't really hear the difference between these and a CD either. I used to encode in mp3Pro with variable bitrate (95-150 Kbps), but I've got a bigger hard drive now...

MennoniteHobbit
WMA or FLAC. I prefer lossless music over lossy. Somehow I can hear a difference between lossy-ripped music over lossless.

Acrylic
I use 164kbps AAC's, because iTunes uses that. And I just love the sound quality, it is so grand!
jon_hill987
I use WMA because windows media player makes them, I just downloaded winamp so that might change but the free version seems to only do mpeg4 or something. that sed the internet radio i have found with winamp is way better, could be the search though. Leper Messiah
well my comp converts all of my CD tracks to WAV files (ahhh!! my hard drive ) but they have to be converted to MP3s to go onto my MP3 player anyhoo.
acdcfanbill
192kb/s mp3's lossless is nice, but i dont have the space to backup my CDs with FLAC. I've got like, 8 gigs of 192kb/s of stuff backed up, which would be huge at full size

Alegis
mp3 is the international standard... WMA is ok but doesn't work on my IPOD so... When working with music (project fer school etc) saving everything in MP3 hardly loses any quality. If there was quality in the first place. weiderudare
.wma or .mp3
MennoniteHobbit
If you use Exact Audio Copy AND use FLAC/WMA then music quality remains excellent to the extent of being exactly the same as it was on the CD. I DO rip music into mp3's but as this topic asked for favorites, I already stated them. When I download music (legally!) they come in mp3's. Guest Jed
I like my music ripped slowly, seared on an iron grille for a few minutes, and served with a side of fava beans and chianti.
ImmolatedYoda
I rip my CDs with dBPowerAMP into MP3s at 128 kb/s.
toms
I would use ogg, as it has better quality than mp3s, but not the drawbacks of wmas... but not enough devices support it... so i'd rather keep my files in mp3 that can be used on everything i own (or buy in the future) rather than have to spend hours re-encoding them in the future. Lossless would be nice, but is only really any use on a PC, as it would take up too much space for a portable device. If you use mp3, the Lame encoder is the best, and it's "alt presets" are the way to go. -alt preset standard will be fine for most things and -alt preset extreme will take care of anything tricky. "mp3 lame -alt preset standard" is what i download most of my legal music in. And what i encode most of my cds in.
Rogue15
mp3s. or i just listen to it straight from the cd.
El Sitherino
CD's I go to lossless mp3 320kbps. DVD audio or anything that plays multiple channels goes to 246kbps AC3.
