jedispy
O.k. so I'm just curious what you guys think about Lucasarts' job on certain games. For example, one of the most overlooked games was a little gem called Star Wars: Rebellion. I have to be honest, I love the game. However I recognise that they could have made it WAY better. The space battle perspective was totally rad, but the overall gameplay itself was poor. It took forever trying to figure out WTF you had to do in the game. However, once you understand it, it becomes much more enjoyable. I wish they had made a ground style campaign as well, kind of like SW: Battlegrounds Oh well, what's done is done. Do you guys have any Lucasarts games that you wish they'd made better?
Kurgan
Star Wars: Episode I: Obi-Wan Originally they planned for a CTF style play, class system hinted at (Dark Jedi, non Jedi and Lightside Jedi), an objective based mode called "Protect the Queen/Viceroy" in an extensive multiplayer component. It was a PC game, with great graphics. They ended up canning the entire MP component in favor of a split screen saber duel with some Jedi Council Members, delayed it, stripped the grahpics, and made it Xbox only. : P That was probably the biggest disappointment I've had of any LucasArts game. Mainly because I went to E3 specifically to see it in action and was pretty impressed with it. It was going to be the successor to JK1. It ended up being a forgettable, badly done console game, made at a time when people were sick and tired of Episode I based games. Obviously I had problems with SWBF and RC, but those I've posted about extensively already. Both I think could have benefited from more work and been better games. Jedi Academy felt a bit rushed in the Siege department. I love the game mode with a passion, but it looks like it could have used another month's coding to tweak it up and make it less buggy. The bots also could have been tweaked more. Basically all the stuff OJP is doing now for the game should have been caught in testing and fixed with another patch, if not before the game first shipped. Falmarin
The ending of X-Wing Alliance (AAAH WTF HAPPENED W/ THE UNCLE) Force Commander (played the demo - absolutely hated the control / camera mechanics) JK II: JA (ughhhh... JK II was amazing... this not so much. I loved the train level, other than that it was more of the same. The speeder bike controls were amazingly difficult and not fluid at all) Star Wars Galaxies (WOW, I freaking bought this a month after it came out, tried it for a month and uninstalled. Just recently I decided to buy the Jump to Lightspeed upgrade and try again to see if the game was improved... what a waste of money)

The Hidden One
KOTOR 2 Republic Commando Galactic Battle Grounds (so much like Age of Empires 2) Shadow of the Empire Empire Strikes Back SNES game
jedispy
The SNES games were fun, but did interesting things with the SW storyline. Luke having to kill rogue Jawas just to get to Mos Eisley in Super SW...that's a little weird. In the trench battle at the end, vader's ship flies backwards in front of you while you attack it. Why didn't they have the player be the Falcon coming in from above and trying to attack vader behind the attack run? It would have made more sense. Of course there's Empire Strikes Back for NES. The game ending leaves no room for Return of the Jedi. Luke kills Boba Fett by destroying slave 1. He rescues Han from the carbonite (interested to see how that happened since Slave 1 blew up.) And then he defeats Darth Vader on Cloud City. Darth Vader says in the end: "This time you have defeated me, but next time you will not be as lucky. It is our destiny to meet again." Also, Vader's a cheap B@$tard and has a blaster as well as a lightsaber. WTF?!?! I felt like complaining to the programmers "have you even SEEN star wars?" Kurgan
Yes, Republic Commando's MP component could have used another couple of month's development. It feels like it was thrown in at the last minute with minimal testing and features. Obviously they wanted to be able to cash in on the Episode III hype, or they were sick of delays of what was essentially a polished SP game with MP as an after thought... Or maybe they should have nixed MP altogether and released the MP component later as a fully featured expansion (like what Epic did with Unreal2 / Unreal Tournament 2k3). General Kenobi
Well I"m sure all of us modders over in Holowan will agree to this... "They should have taken more time and paid more attention to detail for KOTOR TSL." I'm not bragging on myself by any means but look thru some of the screenshots over there and you'll see what I mean by "most of us modders can do it better." Some modders are even working on The Droid Planet for PC BUT, that's definately my vote. The attention to some of the most important graphic detail was left out. EXAMPLE: TSL should have not only had upgragable lightsabers but the "look" should be able to change. The components should have been: Saber shaft Saber end knob Saber top piece Saber knob configuration (0ff/on switch) Saber core chrystal -then the rest he same. Then you could have literally "created a unique saber with hundreds of custom look options." the same saber would be the same save for the end knob at the base or the blade color and the shaft a different color or material. That kinda thing.
Bob Lion54
^^^^^^ I think it was mostly the deadline of Chistmas that caused most of the bugs and lost content. Obsidian did a great jod considering that. And, yea, Holowan is truely awesome!!!
abespam
Kotor 2 (the last 15% of the game) - the first 85% was mad, possibly better than Kotor, then the story takes a dive, the ending is 10 lines of writen speec and many of the side quests and character development never turned up. This has been argued countless times on all the kotor and obsidian forums. cant comment on Force Commander because my comps dont have pixel shaders havent played ne of the games on latest consoles either such as rogue squadron 2/3, bounty hunter - i thought JA was pretty good, it lacked a decent story but as a normal student in the jedi academy it was exactly what i was expecting.. doing jedi quests while progressing as a jedi with cameos from our fav characters. It just a different format from the adventures of kyle katarn which was what the other games were. Shadows of the empire could of been done better, but it was still pretty good.. had a bit of an arcade style play to it, with the distinct seperate levels. TheMadDoofer
Jedi Academy was great for the new saber combat, but not for much else (terrible vehicles - they all felt wooden and weren't used well.) I am having fun with the melee mod though.

TheMadDoofer
A lot of people say that it sucked (I don't have the game, and I haven't played it). What did they do to it? It sure looked good when they announced it.
jedispy
Galactic Battleground is o.k. I must admit that I am a bit of a sucker for the RTS game type. However there aren't any really cool big @$$ weapons. In Starcraft, we have Terran nukes & battlecruisers, Protoss carriers and archons, and Zerg Guardians and massive Hydralisk swarms. SW Galactic Battlegrounds doesn't have anything that cool. That was my big disappointment with it. However with that said, it is one of Lucasarts' finer game attempts. Perhaps the WORST SW game ever was Yoda Stories. There is not one good thing about that game. No redemption.
TheMadDoofer
I really thoroughly enjoyed Battlegrounds - the Age of Kings engine was excellent, but it varied enough from it (for me) for it to be a great game, as was the expansion.
