The Seeker
Yeah, I'm not joking. Just so you know, let me set up the situation. My brother and I decide to take a couple of our horses for a beginning of the season ride. As of yet, we only have two horses with shoes on their feet, so hey, our options were limited. My mom's horse is a normal sized buckskin well matured, and well mannered with a horrible ball busting run. My brother's horse is a HUGE draft cross that stands about five and a half feet tall at the shoulder and weighs about 1500 pounds. He is a bit obstinant at times, but has wonderfully smooth gaits to ride. Well, being 5'8'' myself, I hate riding big horses, but I hate riding a choppy horse even more. So, I comandeered my brother's horse, Smokey. Anyway's, we take off down the trail, and after a short warm up, we decide to let them lope a bit. So, the object is a nice slow run. Smokey takes it as an excuse to try and run off with me while bucking as hard as his fat ass will allow. I pull him up, and head back to the house to grab a more severe bit that will prevent him from running off with me. We head back to the spot of the last incident and try the lope thing again. Sure enough, Smokey tries to run off again, but the new bit persuades him otherwise. So he takes on this pissed off choppy lope as he halfheartedly tries to lose me, while trying to race the other horse. He tries bucking, but I swat him with a small whip when he does, which stops him. Then, he starts veering off the trail which is bordered by a foot tall incline of dirt. I try and steer him away from the step, but he sets his head and goes for it. It would have just been the big doof running off the trail had he watched where he was going. But instead, his front foot hit the step, which caused him to stumble, and by then, he was going down. He hit the ground shoulder first, then slammed onto his side on top of my left leg with all 1500 pounds of himself. When he hit his side, I hit mine hard on the grass right on my arm and banged the side of my head to boot. Fortunately, I kicked my feet out of the stirrups before Smokey stood back up, so I didn't get hung up as he left the scene. So, for my troubles, I feel like I was in the worst bar brall imaginable with every muscle in my body throbbing with each movement. Not to mention, I think I might have pulled something in my shoulder when I landed on my arm, so it looks like a trip to the chiropractor tomorrow. Lesson learned: Leave my brother's dumb@$$ horse at home and get shoes on my own well mannered normal sized horse ASAP. I'm gonna go pass out now. The Seeker
Yeah, surprisingly, my leg is perfectly fine. It's my shoulder and neck that's killing me. Though, since landed on my arm at speed from roughly eight feet in the air (when you factor in the horse's height along with mine on top of him) I suppose I'm fortunate I didn't break my arm. So, I walked away with a hurt neck and shoulder. All in all, could've been way worse, since if he had kept rolling, he would have crushed me under him completely. Yeah, I'll get my personal horse shod as soon as I can.
Neverhoodian
See, it's stories like this that help cultivate my fear of horses. Of course, the fact that a horse bit my finger once probably plays a role in my case of equinaphobia as well. I was feeding this horse that a friend of my parents' owned. I was holding the food like you're supposed to, with your hand flat, but the stupid animal bent his head around at an angle and bit down on my right index finger. It's a miracle my finger bones weren't crushed; it didn't even break the skin! Still, it hurt and throbbed like hell for a bit. I guess what frightens me about horses is that they don't know their own strength. Any animal that can maim or kill you without even trying like that scares me, such as horses, bears, rhinos, etc. Don't get me wrong, I think horses are beautiful creatures, but just watching them is good enough for me. Sure, I got hurt, but the fact is that my brother's horse is a lazy bastard who didn't want to run, so tried to lose me. He regretted his stunt when i got back on and gave him the run of his life. My horse would never be such a jerk, so I got no beef with him. But yeah, I know why some folks fear horses, They're animals that are five times our size with a brain the size of a walnut which I guess gives them enought thought power to control their motor skills... You'll pay for that remark, oh how you will pay. Plus I don't discriminate, the guys would too, if anything you said was true. But it wasn't therefore you die now. Plus I think going by her name we could assume she's a female. I just had no idea she was the sister of a member.

El Sitherino
I just wish I had gotten the memo, the sparkly paper makes my day seem so much better. Anyway, JediKnight, are you just scared of horses now? What about donkeys, or mules? You could get a donkey and name it Sancho.
The Seeker
What about donkeys, or mules? You could get a donkey and name it Sancho. Erm, yeah, I'll do that. Sound advice. Anyway, JediKnight, are you just scared of horses now? I've been riding, basically since I could walk, so no, it'll take a bit more than a small tumble to keep me off their backs. When I fell, it took me about two minutes to sit down and get my thoughts together before I got pissed, got back on the horse, and ran his ass into the ground. He lost a few pounds of sweat after that little stunt. -JK_114, the Horse Screamer
