Cool illusion....

Recommended Posts

That's a great illusion to show to art students studying color theory. Do you know why you see a green dot? Because it is the complement of red (or in this case, pink...which is a red). If you stare at any color long enough and then look away, you will see its complement (opposite) "burned" into your vision. The pop artist Jasper Johns once painted an American flag in green, black, and orange with a black dot at the center. If you stared at the black dot for about a minute and then looked away (preferably to a white sheet of paper) you would see the red, white, and blue. Visual illusions are so fun!

That was cool! I love illusions like that, and that I didn't even have to stare at a bright light or look at it for two minutes or something. At the start, it instantly turns to green, and then, if you concentrate, almost immediately the pink dots will fade out. Yet more proof that we don't always see what we think we see.

does that mean it would work with two other colors that complement each other.
